i'd much rather watch movies on a tablet with 1024x768 and a 10" screen than any phone with a 4-5" retina displayi'm not comparing a low end laptop with a 14" screen to a netbook with superior hardware, i'm just saying I don't think you're going to be so blown away by the graphic clarity on a 7" Nexus compared to a decent enough looking 10" tablet screen when watching moviesand browsing might be a bit snappier, but a lot of browsing has to do more with network speeds than hardware capabilitiesand again, what do people do with a tablet besides browse the web and watch movies? i can run 99% of the same Android apps on my Touchpad as the Nexus 7, but what crazy hardware intensive things are people planning to do with this thing?i'm not trying to knock the Nexus 7, it sounds pretty awesome...if it had a 10" screen it would blow the Touchpad awaya friend of mine was hyping up some games on his iPhone 4...they looked awesome for what they were but i was like "i'd rather play XBox on a huge TV"]

well you can go ahead and eliminate the WebOS part. Jellybean blows it away in all regards. As far as CM vs. Jellybean, well I guess just wait for CM10 to be ported to the Touchpad and see if any of the Jellybean enhancements will work for it. If not, then there's your clear winner.

Lets talk cases. I liked the idea of getting the one through google play, although it might be neat to have one in a different color. What kind of case is everyone going with?
7/18/2012 6:33:07 AM
^^You're just trolling now. You're seriously posting screen shots of movies to compare? 1024 by 768 on a 10" tablet is blurry and pixelated. It's a really low DPI. It's hard to even look at a tablet with that low DPI and watch a movie. The reason why I held off on getting a tablet for the longest time was because of the poor resolutions on older tablets. The iPad 1/2, Touchpad, etc just look bad to me. My first laptop in 2003 had a 1920 by 1200 resolution and I guess that spoiled me. 1024 by 768 just reminds me of those 15" CRTs from the late 90's.

Typing this from my 7 Look, the touchpad is a great device, no doubt about it. The screen is high quality, its loaded with hardware and has a very active community. The main thing you're getting with the nexus is that Google first party brand. You know this thing isn't going to get fragmented anytime in the near future.Other than that, you get Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, much much faster CPU and GPU, NFC and a pogopin port. Not a whole lot of difference honestly. But for me at least, I own a 10" tablet in the iPad3, so owning a 10" android tablet doesn't have such appeal. The nexus is hands down the best of the 4 different 7" tablets I own and the 7-8 I've used.
7/18/2012 11:03:44 AM
have they announced a dock yet?
7/18/2012 11:15:58 AM
^^lol you own 4 7" tablets? So as an iPad 3 user so you think the Nexus 7 will replace it for every day use?
7/18/2012 11:21:45 AM
Yeah I use a lot of different hardware. Hell I've got 5 different smartphones right now.And yes, this thing will definitely supplant the iPad for daily use. It fits in my back pocket, long battery life and its performant. Prior to this, a Nook with ICS and the Kindle fire vied for daily use. 7" just works better for reading, which I have to do a lot of. I do love the iPad for traveling and browsing the net at home, as well as the little gaming I do. The games on iPad are getting insanely well developed and produced.
7/18/2012 11:41:24 AM
I currently have an iphone, but i'm considering one of these.Maybe I need to find one and play with it a bit.
7/18/2012 1:54:21 PM
Flew 5 hours w/ the 7 yesterday. Absolutely amazing for reading. Just so damn easy to use and super fast CPU along w/ 4.1..love.I haven't seen any cases I like yet but the thing fits perfectly inside the back flap pocket of a leather folio I have. Carried it into several meetings today and it felt totally natural.
7/18/2012 9:19:59 PM
So who wants to buy my touchpad?
7/18/2012 9:25:57 PM
If anyone wants to sell their N7 HOLLA!
7/18/2012 10:26:42 PM
ordered one. excited to get it. does the home screen being stuck in portrait instead of auto-switching to landscape when you rotate it piss anyone off? this is my biggest concern.
7/19/2012 2:51:39 AM
doesn't bother me at all.
7/19/2012 3:17:50 AM
Kinda annoys me a bit, simply because i'm used to primarily using it in landscape. They were going for a reader-style device.Still, there's already ways out to get it into landscape mode if you want it
7/19/2012 10:28:29 AM
I read a few reports of loose screens, anyone have any problems?
7/19/2012 11:54:24 AM
my bottom right corner creaksI'm going to try the self-repair since it seems easy enough. Just pop off the back and tighten the perimeter screws
7/19/2012 12:04:54 PM
So what apps/stuff have you guys spent your $25 on so far?I'm looking for a good stylus-based note-taking app to match what I have for the iPad.

My Motorola Xoom has been dead for months and I don't really miss it. My main beef with it is its always dead, no way to program it to shut down after a period of non-use thereby making the battery lsat, also I hate shutting it down because boot up takes too long. That and the bastard charger that is on the wrong side of the device. Probably should sell it while I can.

7/23/2012 10:52:37 PM
used some of my 25 free bucks on splashtop remote desktop. It's really slick. I'm sure I'll find a way to get some use out of it.
7/24/2012 12:47:43 PM
^That's one of the biggest reasons I want a Nexus 7. You can use Splashtop to run PC games through remote desktop full screen.
7/24/2012 12:59:38 PM
one of the first things i did was load up starcraft ii via my nexus 7, but the problem is the interface isn't exactly ideal for a RTS haha.
7/24/2012 1:04:19 PM
Fullscreen work alright? Splashtop THD apparently has USB controller and mouse support for certain games:http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/21239226-basic-thd-manualSo you can use a controller for Skyrim on your Nexus 7. Sounds cool.
7/24/2012 1:16:44 PM
I don't think it would be too difficult to design a touch screen input overlay program for any game that uses only mouse control. For example a system where a single finger is the mouse cursor, a tap to the left of that finger is a left click and to the right is a right click. So you would use your middle finger to control the cursor, index finger to left click, and ring finger to right click. You could also choose whether to use full screen control or a transparent box at the bottom of the screen as an on-screen touchpad.
7/24/2012 1:22:43 PM
That's what they already have for Skyrim I believe. http://support-remote.splashtop.com/entries/21239226-basic-thd-manual"Game Mode"

Picked up a 16gb n7 today at Staples. Now trying to cancel the one I ordered from Google last week, that should be here in a month I guess? It's my first tablet (iPod Touch before this) and I'm really liking it so far. [Edited on July 24, 2012 at 3:27 PM. Reason : .]
7/24/2012 3:26:35 PM
^^ I have already played Diablo 3 on my Iconia A200 through SplashTop. I did not know about the game mode, but it worked and was fairly functional with just the touch screen or a mouse.[Edited on July 24, 2012 at 8:22 PM. Reason : /]
7/24/2012 8:21:19 PM
Full screen was working okay earlier. I initiated it with my laptop screen closed and it limited me as a mobile screen on windows side and that made me mad. Screen doesn't really support it but I had sc2 at 1980x1080 or whatever it is
7/25/2012 1:36:12 AM
I bought the third case I posted in red
7/26/2012 1:27:52 PM

7/27/2012 3:18:55 PM

7/27/2012 4:19:30 PM
