A loose definition of "sorts" would cover almost all recreational activity that humans engage in. If the broad activities of sports and physical play didn't exist, then we would all be vegetables. It would be nonsense for anyone to object to these activities as a whole. When people complain about sports, they're generally complaining about professional sports.

Why do you think this. The physical ability, dedication, skill, and training required to be an athlete at the highest level is incredibly rare. high school sports have an element of spectator sport in it. It's a gateway to college / professional, which are even more spectator-oriented.

Even worse than the sort part of it is the band part of it. I feel sorry for everyone who committed the expensive and thankless hobby of marching band. That work would have been better spent on performances where people come to see you. And as for the big college games, they don't need bands, they don't need to exist in the first place.

And you would be wrong. Go count up the number of brain surgeons than compare that to the number of guys in the NFL.

It's a shit load harder. I'm not saying that they're better human beings or anything like that, but all you have to do is look at the attrition rate from the top level of college or minor league players to the majors. All of those guys who don't make the cut dedicated at least 12 years of their lives or more to training for their particular sport and still couldn't make it. Compared to NFL QB brain surgeon is a pretty common profession. I've met brain surgeons in my daily life. I've never met an NFL QB, active or retired, because that's one of the world's smallest groups.

I feel bad every time I see mainstream TV and someone else's house these days. It's not a satisfying activity. It keeps you watching and that's all. Boredom is what makes you try something new and fulfilling.

I would gladly move to a place where TVs were outlawed. Heck, let's have an anti-curfew, 0.5-2 hours every day or week when you're allowed to be anywhere except for at home.
