Got my Polar Pen a week or two ago.For some reason the nib on my pen is bent about 15 degrees, but it works so I'm not going to mess with it. It writes beautifully, as well as my rapidograph pens which are stupid expensive and painful to clean and maintain.Man it is BEAUTIFUL, but I don't think its going to be very practical to use. I didn't realize two things:1) Every writing surface I use has electronic devices on it (laptop/tablet/monitor/etc). I'm honestly scared shitless that I'll accidentally put down the pen on top of my laptop or tablet and come back to a wiped hard drive. The magnets on this thing are crazy strong.2) The orientations possible on the pen are extremely limited, unless you want the ink barrel sticking out. But it's definitely fun to play with and the nib of the pen is really nice.^It appears they may actually stop the Kickstarter due to a litany of problems. Namely that USB power doesn't actually work, they lied about having a patent on the design, they didn't plan for large scale manufacturing (aka a runaway kickstarter), they didn't understand the legal requirements for UL/CE certification or warranties in certain countries (EU), and apparently the list goes on. It does look gorgeous, but I think they should pull the project, sort out their issues and relaunch it again.[Edited on May 13, 2014 at 9:52 PM. Reason : .]

Got my Almond+ router last week. Seems legit. Also got my +port USB cable about a month ago....very nice. Finally, received my NC BBQ map 3 weeks ago. Things went better than expected.[Edited on August 18, 2014 at 1:59 PM. Reason : ]

i got my almond+ last week as well and i haven't dug in to it too much other than to note that compared to my previous router the signal strength is much better (old router was a linksys wrt610n) - the only thing i've really done is setup the linksys as a wireless repeater with dd-wrt
8/18/2014 4:23:24 PM
^^Yeah the BBQ Map turned out fucking amazing. LOVE it, just got it framed. Also got my Lockitron a few weeks back. Definitely still has some firmware kinks to work out, but the apps are solid and the API is really good (working on a Windows Phone app for it).Fingers crossed that the missing parts to my Rigidbot will actually get shipped out this week, so I may actually be 3d printing by the end of the month

how big is the frame for the NC BBQ Map? I didn't measure out the dimensions yet.

this is a project I've been helping out with on the side. we won 1st place at Startup Weekend EDU in NYC earlier this year, and the two founders have been working on it nearly full time since, including participating in a startup accelerator over the summer.here's a piece about us in Fast Company toohttp://www.fastcompany.com/3036097/strong-female-lead/a-learn-to-code-startup-for-instagram-loving-teenage-girls ]

If this BBQ map is the same thing that I hated on months ago, then I'm ready to admit that maybe I was wrong; that map looks awesome. Originally, I had no confidence in someone wanting a bunch of money from others to drive around the state to eat BBQ to actually produce something worthwhile. gg, bbq person.

Anybody getting one of these???https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/152108000/cubit-perfect-cubes-of-tungsten-titanium-and-morehttps://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1014603694/forge-solid-denser-than-solid-uranium(3 days to go for latter one)I really want to get the kilo tungsten cube, but don't want to spend $150.Will go for the $65 0.5 inch 4-pack of W, Ti, Cu, and Al.
4/6/2015 7:26:28 AM
I opted for a reward from each of the campaigns. For $108 I will get:0.5 inch cube each of Mg-Li, Al, Ti, Cu, W... except for W, of which I will get 2.Assuming the Mg-Li is roughly equal amounts of Mg and Li, the masses of the cubes approximately double from one to the next. Approximate values are:2.3 g - Mg-Li5.5 g - Al9.3 g - Ti18.4 g - Cu39.7 g - WIf I could spare some more, I would like to get 1" cubes of the metals + 2 sizes of one of the metals, for example, 1" and 0.5" of W. They would make great educational materials for explaining volume and density.
4/6/2015 8:17:00 AM
cubes of metal? no thanks.
4/6/2015 8:42:14 AM
not just any metal!tungsten is as dense as gold! it is the 8th densest element. actually, the densest is only 17% denser, so you can think of it as being at the top. it is 7 times as dense as aluminum, and 36 times as dense as the least dense metal - lithium.it is special!

They are not "cubes of metal"They're precision crafted beautiful regular hexahedrons constructed from exotic metallic elements, plebian

Cool watches, but $300+. I'm no watch prick, and I can't see any way to justify spending that much on a watch that simply keeps time. I bought a $500 watch once and it was a dumb purchase.
5/22/2015 9:00:10 AM
5/22/2015 9:50:32 AM
^ I don't even wear that watch much anymore. Mistake #2 with that watch was it being battery powered. It's annoying to have to replace the battery every few years.
5/22/2015 10:26:25 AM
Obviously what I posted is for those into watches, not those who think watches are dumb. What quartz watch did you get for 500? At that price you should have gotten a high end Japanese automatic or solar-powered watch. But I guess you went for a swiss quartz? Even a few swiss automatics can be had at that price.
5/22/2015 12:50:17 PM
it's got diamonds 'n shit.
5/22/2015 1:25:22 PM
So you made a dumb decision to buy a bling watch and are now blaming the watch and watches in general? Got it.(I know you are probably joking, and I am very curious to know what you got, but doesn't seem like you are about to divulge that)

this is pretty coolhttps://www.kickstarter.com/projects/747044530/miito-the-sustainable-alternative-to-the-electric
6/2/2015 3:11:49 AM
^It looks pretty, but I seriously doubt it is actually more energy efficient. Inductive heating is theoretically slightly more energy efficient, but in reality they are almost always equal or worse than traditional electric heaters .The nail in the coffin is that it costs 5-7x more than a decent electric kettle, meaning you're never going to get any cost savings out of it.
6/2/2015 4:46:57 PM
^From what I understand the largest energy savings comes from heating one cup of water instead of heating an entire kettle of water. Usually when people use electric kettles they heat like 400% of the water they actually need because there's a minimum fill amount in an electric kettle. This methodology would allow someone to only heat what they need. I remember seeing a video on a similar product about how much energy is wasted in the UK from electric kettle's. Sure this product will be expensive but from an energy infrastructure perspective the gains would be significant.
