Every character, including the attractive one, is cringe-worthy. This show is like nails on a chalkboard. Borderline unbearable. The whole alpha hipster scene was laughable. Only redeeming part was the 8 seconds that were implying the girl was fingering herself.

Entourage was basically lifestyle porn, with paper thin characters and the same jokes repeated ad nauseam. It was a fine turn-off-your-brain show for a couple seasons before they got totally complacent, but there's more wit and intelligence in 5 minutes of Girls than there is in 5 episodes of Entourage.

Nobody's claiming it's rocket science, I said it's way smarter than Entourage, and frankly that's not a particularly high bar. I can go into more detail about why the dialogue and direction on Girls is smarter than Entourage's formula of ass shot, dick joke, weed smoke plus a cameo if you want.

I'm in the middle on this show, honestly. The extremes on both sides are a bit much. It's not the best show ever but there are TONS of shows worse than this so all the hate is pretty stupid. I'm mostly annoyed at prominent internet sites/critics and their tone of how they're telling us we should like it and we're wrong if we don't.

determining whether or not something is 'deep' is a largely personal matter and telling people that the show is "not as deep as they think it is" and that it falsely makes them feel witty and intelligent is pretty insulting and "puffed up."

Girls is entertaining. Its not very intelligent or witty. I wouldn't call it good, (I'd call GoT, CYE, etc 'Good') deep, or turn-on-your-brain required, but that could change; we've only had 3 episodes.

To be clear, I still think the three people I listed, including you, are being total tools about this show and those of us who like it and even, gasp, think it's "good."

Lena Dunham is a good writer and director and it shows in Girls. Jody Lee Lipes is a fucking great DP and Girls is shot incredibly well. I would call Girls 'good.' And pretty witty. And definitely pretty intelligent. I don't think I'm cool for "getting it" or something. I think it handles it's storylines in a smart and fresh way and has interesting characters. Fuck off.
