you have to create a forum account, but this is the best source of ROMs:https://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?56293-MULTI-ROM-SET-No-Intro-Collection-%28Complete-ROM-Sets%29

Have one at home and one at work. There are some good kits on Amazon if you don't want to load everything yourself.
3/8/2017 11:29:56 PM
This thing is pretty cool. Started out with Raspian then eventually loaded RetroPie. Having a little trouble loading the rpm for the ps3 controller bluetooth though.

I've had one set up for a while. It's is fun but I get enough noticeable lag in the controller that it makes some games almost unplayable. Would be interested if any of you are also seeing the same thing. I'm using a Pi3 and a 8bitdo SNES30.
3/10/2017 7:35:47 AM
Your lag - are you using your controller via bluetooth or connected via USB?Another thing I've realized. After going through the SNES game list, there really weren't that many great SNES titles. Not nearly as many as I remember.
3/10/2017 7:46:43 AM
Controller is bluetooth

3/10/2017 9:55:03 AM
i have no lag with 8bitdo controller

Why aren't there Pi-Day sales on these?!
3/14/2017 3:18:36 PM
My pi won't boot anymore Get's stuck at the retropi boot screen and never loads. Anyone else had this happen?
3/30/2017 4:23:35 PM
Not yet, but I had a friend at work notice some other weird things going on with his. Does retropie do any kind of automatic updates?
3/30/2017 8:40:50 PM
Not sure, mine is not connected to the web.

is there a way to see if my raspberry pi is overheating? a few times i've noticed that i can't remote access by raspberry pi, i unplug it and plug it back in and everything seems to be working and i'm wondering if maybe it's overheating. is there a way to tell?
2/19/2019 7:00:43 PM
What makes you think it is the overheating that is causing your inability to access. How are you trying to get into it? ssh?
2/19/2019 9:14:53 PM
Just a guess, it feels a little warm. I lose the service that's running on it and when I try to ssh or remote access 5o check what's up there is no response like its shutdown.
2/19/2019 10:12:36 PM
You can Google around for Python scripts that check/monitor processor temps.
2/19/2019 10:21:44 PM
sd failed on mine and gave a similar experience before it died
2/20/2019 9:28:44 AM
same happened to me, apparently, if you don't shut the older Pi models down correctly, it can corrupt your OS and/or SD.
2/20/2019 12:40:56 PM
I was replacing some outlets upstairs, so it did shutdown a couple times via turning off the breaker (all the other electronics in that room are on UPS so I wasn't thinking about it) Maybe I'll try just doing a fresh install

I have this strange issue where my router will show my Pis and connected WiFi devices. They can and do communicate across the internet, but I can't connect via SSH. Restarting the WiFi on the router temporarily fixes the issue.
2/20/2019 2:53:01 PM
i'll try that tooi guess i should also plug in a monitor and see if it's actually working and i just can't connect to it the next time it happens
2/20/2019 3:33:46 PM
for the GPU, use
/opt/vc/bin/vcgencmd measure_temp
2/20/2019 3:41:50 PM
And, thanks to this thread, I've just purchased a Pi 3B+, and I'm gonna put OpenVPN on it, and possibly an ad-blocker for my home network.
2/20/2019 3:46:12 PM
if you're making a pie hole, you might want this too https://github.com/anudeepND/whitelist
2/20/2019 5:07:14 PM
Will do. Now you fuckes got me looking at a new router for dd-wrt, since my AT&T router sucks donkey balls
2/20/2019 8:36:27 PM
when i reflash mine and reinstall everything i'm going to set it up as a pi-hole

2/23/2019 11:11:33 AM
so what happened to your download speeds?
2/24/2019 12:29:01 AM
No idea, I think maybe a router issue. It was only my ethernet speeds so I dont think it was the pi-hole. I saw a had a firmware update available so I did that and speeds are back to normal.
2/24/2019 7:55:35 AM
ahotherwise the pi hole works as advertised?
2/25/2019 4:05:16 PM
Yeah, although with adblocker and stuff I never really noticed many ads before.I did use one of the popular curated whitelists to help avoid any unexpected issues. Whatever my android TV pings to decide if the local network has internet is being blocked, so everything works but I occasionally get a notice that my wifi has no internet (should be an easy fox, just have to dig into the log and find it)
2/25/2019 9:03:55 PM
i had to manually whitelist a few things for cbs all-access

Mine came in, and I've been having fun messing around with it. Never used linux in earnest before, and I have to say that I love the scriptability of everything. I've basically got the whole setup scripted at this point, including backing stuff up to a github repo. If I run into issues, just run the backup scripts (to save the few local files I need), format the SD, and I'm back up in an hour, depending on how many updates are needed.I hope to have OpenVPN up and running within the week. Also need to find decent iptables rules and lock down the pi account.
3/2/2019 11:13:19 PM
So I manage linux, among other OS's, for work, so I seldom like to get into it at home, but...is using this thing for an ad-dump actually viable? And how does that work? Do all the ads coming in for the pc's on my network go straight to the pi-hole? I mean I haven't really read up about it, but if that is the case, then the cost of a rasperry pi would be well worth it.
3/11/2019 2:05:13 PM
A Pi-hole just plays DNS shenanigans.
3/11/2019 2:29:05 PM
So it's basically a special DNS server for your home.
3/12/2019 9:26:13 AM
Yes, it works really well with PiHole as a whole-home ad-blocker. I've been pleased with what I have seen so far. It even blocks in-app ads on my phone. You can pair it up nicely with OpenVPN and have ad-blocking wherever you go.
3/12/2019 10:34:22 AM
if you have a download cap from your isp, pi-hole is very helpful. im currently rejecting about 40% of my total traffic. in a day of video ads, that's got to be a couple hundred gigs
3/12/2019 4:59:32 PM
Welp, my pihole crapped out yesterday randomly. Have to reformat and get it back up. Can't log in locally or ssh into it. Broke the interwebs at the house for a few hours. We'll see how well my scripts work
11/12/2020 6:42:50 PM
that happened to me. fatigued the sd card completely. moved to a docker container on a normal machine
11/13/2020 8:23:27 AM
If you're doing anything important with a Pi, invest in a high endurance SD card. Or boot from SD read-only and do all the writing on a flash drive.
