didn't realize toyota used megafaun's "hope you know" on a super bowl commercial. that's pretty awesome.

^As much as I want to avoid saying this, it's hard to get around the feeling that it's a sample as generic as I've ever heard, and I don't really see what the big deal is. I don't even understand who picked up on it to use it...

from what i understand this is just the b-side to the single that came out last week and won't be on jack white's new album, but hopefully the rest of it is like this. apparently the first single isn't indicative of the overall sound. seems like his backing band on tour will probably be pretty cool at least.

Those Netherfriends tracks are better than his godawful showing at Hopscotch, but the stupid naming convention isn't doing him any favors.

Yeah I talked to him at a recent show and he talked about how he realized a bit too late that naming the songs like that made it kind of awkward. They're named that way because he did a thing where he toured all over the country and wrote a song in each of the 50 states. So each one is named after the place he wrote it in.

But yeah, it's still kind of awkward naming.

If you like that stuff, check out the Barry & Sherry LP and Calling You Out EP. It's available at http://netherfriends.bandcamp.com for super cheap and it's good shit. That stuff was pre-2012 though, so not relevant to this thread

Yeah, naming those songs like that is totally stupid. However, naming your songs Calgary, Minnesota, WI, Hinnom, TX, Lisbon, OH etc is totally awesome.

^ I do-- I was on the bandwagon early and ordered it from Stranger Records in the UK when it was supposed to be limited to only 500. At that time, pre-orders were selling on ebay for over $100. Then, they decided to press 1000, so the value went down. It still sells for upwards to $30 on ebay. First 50 copies were signed, and those go for well over $100.

agreed. i really enjoy those two songs, but her live performance is awkward to say the least. apparently her management pulled her out of sxsw b/c they didn't think she was ready for it.

I'm listening to the new Tennis. I don't know why. The first two songs are okay. The rest is her just singing in the shower. It's annoying.

haha I was just checking it out this morning and that's the perfect way to describe it. The music is decent enough to keep on in the background while I'm working though.

Listening to this new Shearwater album. It has some okay tracks, but overall kinda meh in my opinion. If you like the National, you may appreciate this album more, and I'd recommend giving it a try.

Did anybody see this band live at the SVE show last Sunday?

They were really boring, and appear to spend more time buying guitar pedals than writing good songs.

^^ that's disappointing to hear. i've really been looking forward to it. i liked armchair apocrypha and noble beast a lot. i'll probably check out the new one tomorrow when i get home. how does it compare to the last two?

^ I love Armchair Apocrypha, and Noble Beast certainly has its moments. This one just feels tired. He seems bored, and none of the songs stand out or draw you back in. He also recycles way too many riffs and instrumental elements from his back-catalogue, particularly the recent Norman soundtrack he composed. I had hopes for this one because the single ("Eyeoneye") is fairly buoyant. Unfortunately, most of the album is just plodding and dull.

i didn't care much for "eyeoneye." may not care for much of the rest by the sound of it. bummer.
