That new Bowerbirds lp is what the newest Bon Iver lp should've/ could've sounded like[Edited on February 7, 2012 at 1:05 PM. Reason : g]

just b/c they're cooler to namedrop doesn't mean they make better music.

^^^It's kind of shocking that Justin Vernon is so sensitive and has no sarcasm detector.

Nothing tops the daily massive battles between Patrick Stickles and random people on Twitter.
2/7/2012 7:19:33 PM
didn't realize toyota used megafaun's "hope you know" on a super bowl commercial. that's pretty awesome.
2/7/2012 7:33:40 PM
^As much as I want to avoid saying this, it's hard to get around the feeling that it's a sample as generic as I've ever heard, and I don't really see what the big deal is. I don't even understand who picked up on it to use it...

Netherfriends - Middle America Recommended tracks:Bloomington, INKalamazoo, MIChicago, IL]
2/8/2012 4:27:03 PM
^^ yeah, it totally is, but it's still kinda cool that it was in a commercial that millions of people saw that night
2/8/2012 6:47:14 PM
Thats fair.
2/8/2012 7:39:46 PM
http://hypem.com/search/machine%20gun%20silhouette/1/from what i understand this is just the b-side to the single that came out last week and won't be on jack white's new album, but hopefully the rest of it is like this. apparently the first single isn't indicative of the overall sound. seems like his backing band on tour will probably be pretty cool at least.
2/9/2012 8:15:22 PM
Those Netherfriends tracks are better than his godawful showing at Hopscotch, but the stupid naming convention isn't doing him any favors.
2/9/2012 8:47:52 PM
Yeah I talked to him at a recent show and he talked about how he realized a bit too late that naming the songs like that made it kind of awkward. They're named that way because he did a thing where he toured all over the country and wrote a song in each of the 50 states. So each one is named after the place he wrote it in. But yeah, it's still kind of awkward naming. If you like that stuff, check out the Barry & Sherry LP and Calling You Out EP. It's available at http://netherfriends.bandcamp.com for super cheap and it's good shit. That stuff was pre-2012 though, so not relevant to this thread
2/9/2012 9:18:52 PM
so basically he's sucking off sufjan stevens.got it.
2/10/2012 10:59:32 AM
Yeah, naming those songs like that is totally stupid. However, naming your songs Calgary, Minnesota, WI, Hinnom, TX, Lisbon, OH etc is totally awesome.
2/10/2012 11:04:06 AM
are you suggesting we Michicant have it both ways?
2/10/2012 11:10:21 AM
AIR, people! Come on.Air is back....this album is solid.

I can't listen to Lana Del Ray anymore because all you haters that RUINED HER .
2/10/2012 1:29:40 PM
^ yeh, I'm glad I got one of the 7" picture-discs with "Video Games" and "Blue Jeans." Those are really the only two songs by her you need.
2/10/2012 2:11:59 PM
lol im quite jealous if you really have that.
2/10/2012 2:14:15 PM
^ I do-- I was on the bandwagon early and ordered it from Stranger Records in the UK when it was supposed to be limited to only 500. At that time, pre-orders were selling on ebay for over $100. Then, they decided to press 1000, so the value went down. It still sells for upwards to $30 on ebay. First 50 copies were signed, and those go for well over $100.
2/10/2012 2:29:35 PM
hilarious
2/10/2012 2:31:00 PM
^^you don't know how close I was to ordering as soon as that tweet went out about the signed copies.
2/10/2012 2:36:49 PM
What's the appeal of Lana Del Ray?

This is pretty hilarious. I'm listening to the new Tennis. I don't know why. The first two songs are okay. The rest is her just singing in the shower. It's annoying. [Edited on February 13, 2012 at 5:32 PM. Reason : k]

Welcome to October.
2/15/2012 3:02:02 PM
Still would love to take her out on a date, either way.
2/15/2012 3:17:26 PM
^I don't think you would, dude. I'm pretty sure she'd be completely vapid when you tried to talk to her.
2/15/2012 3:28:19 PM
if her daddy's rich, take her out for a meal...
2/15/2012 3:36:18 PM
haha, smart man.
2/15/2012 4:12:55 PM
Listening to this new Shearwater album. It has some okay tracks, but overall kinda meh in my opinion. If you like the National, you may appreciate this album more, and I'd recommend giving it a try. Did anybody see this band live at the SVE show last Sunday?
2/16/2012 2:33:32 PM
They were really boring, and appear to spend more time buying guitar pedals than writing good songs.
2/16/2012 4:12:27 PM
That's the spirit!
2/16/2012 4:39:45 PM
saw them at all points west after rook came outtheir drummer was a fucking weirdo who played a hammer dulcimer that looked to be homemade from plywood and duct tapehaha[Edited on February 16, 2012 at 4:51 PM. Reason : e]

The new Andrew Bird record is a snoozefest. No good hooks. This dude has really gone downhill since The Mysterious Production of Eggs
2/16/2012 4:57:33 PM
Wearing a Daniel Johnston shirt to Austin? So cool...
2/16/2012 5:01:29 PM
^^ that's disappointing to hear. i've really been looking forward to it. i liked armchair apocrypha and noble beast a lot. i'll probably check out the new one tomorrow when i get home. how does it compare to the last two?
2/16/2012 5:14:52 PM
^ I love Armchair Apocrypha, and Noble Beast certainly has its moments. This one just feels tired. He seems bored, and none of the songs stand out or draw you back in. He also recycles way too many riffs and instrumental elements from his back-catalogue, particularly the recent Norman soundtrack he composed. I had hopes for this one because the single ("Eyeoneye") is fairly buoyant. Unfortunately, most of the album is just plodding and dull.
2/16/2012 5:55:38 PM
i didn't care much for "eyeoneye." may not care for much of the rest by the sound of it. bummer.
