If you are a liberal it is okay to hate on Christians and Southerners, but those same people better not hate on anyone else or then they are bigoted, close minded, inbred, idiots.[Edited on November 21, 2011 at 11:31 AM. Reason : pg 3 - Tebow wins, yet sucks as a BQ. It is amazing.]

^,^^^ I thought this Tebow guy played football... didn't realize he was a religious figure-head
11/21/2011 1:26:14 PM
nobody said he was a "figure-head". I believe what is being discussed is how he uses his status as a football player to promote his brand of religion in a somehwhat over-the-top manner, and how he is one of the few athletes to do that, and why some people don't like him because of that.

^^Players change their name all the time to muhammad and no one hates the guy for promoting his religion. Ali is a national treasure for Allah's sake. And yet everytime you say his name you are promoting the prophet Mohammad. Yet the treatment of anyone non-Muslim (gays, christians, Jews, whatever) in Muslim countries is appaling. Where is the outrage and hatred for Muslim athletes?Lots of hypocrites ITT.
11/21/2011 2:56:22 PM
Dude, your close-mindedness and inability to understand the argument is making it hard to even follow your "argument". What does the treatment of gays in muslim countries have to do with Tebow being a douche? Why should people hate muslim athletes becuase of what muslim countries do, and what does that have to do with Tebow being a douche? I think it's very apparent in all my posts above, but i'll say it since you don't seem to be following: If it was a muslim athlete using his status to promote his brand of religion the same way tebow does/did, then i'd think he was douche as well. Same with a scientologist athlete. Same with am atheist athlete. It's not so much about the religion, it's about painting bible verses on your faces, it's about making commercials, it's about praying after every touchdown, it's about talking about it in every interview (haven't i made this clear yet?)[Edited on November 21, 2011 at 3:21 PM. 11/21/2011 3:42:32 PM
and if you were more tolerant, you wouldn't care if people didn't like him becuase he constantly flaunts his brand of religion. but i realize lots of folks take any slight on anything or anybody who's religious as a personal attack against themselves.and i see you can't name anybody else.

Tebow discussed gay marriage when he made a commercial for Focus on the Family. TD celebrations and pressers aren't the only thing he does, you know.[Edited on November 21, 2011 at 4:23 PM. Reason : .]

Calling science a belief system comparable to religion is disingenuous, wrong, and stupid. I'd love to stop responding in Sports Talk but I can't let you get away with this. Science follows evidence. Religion follows nothing but wishful thinking. Belief in science is justifiable while belief in religion is not.Science is not a religion. I'm sorry your religion is stupid and doesn't make sense. You're not going to make it any better by trying to make science look bad.

^^^^wowso i understand that debating religion doesn't belong here. but is discussing how tebow uses his status as a professional football player to promote his brand of religion, and how he's the only professional athlete that i'm aware of it to do it in such a capacity, is that discussion allowed in ST? I'm seriously curious, I don't want to get suspended, but it does seem sports related to me.[Edited on November 22, 2011 at 9:34 AM. Reason : ]

you're missing it man.talking about tebow is relevant. debating religion and the validity of christianity isn't.

^^ one of those statements is about Tim Tebow. The other statement is about somebody else.
11/22/2011 9:56:40 AM
so then, lemme get this straight. someone can come in and say Tebow is an idiot for being a Christian. and no one else can then come in and say "being a Christian doesn't make you an idiot". just kind of allows for people to say provocative shit with no response allowed. unless I'm missing something...[Edited on November 22, 2011 at 9:59 AM. ok, then, let's move back on topic. HOW is Tebow using his status as an athlete to unnecessarily promote Christianity in a way different than other athletes who promote things using their status? Because he writes crap on his eyeblack while no one else has any other tattoos or the like? Because he was in 1 commercial while LT was in a bajillion soup commercials? Because people ask him about it and he responds to the question? Because he prays after a touchdown while others... pray after touchdowns? There's literally no leg to stand on here! It all, ultimately, comes down to "I don't like Tebow because he's a Christian."
11/22/2011 10:13:26 AM
yeah well that's fine. you might think that's a dumb reason, but this thread isn't for talking about how dumb everybody thinks everybody else is. nor is anybody going to convince anybody else to either like or not like christians ITT. if anybody wants to have those conversations, feel free to PM each other
