bahaha and the emerald is gaudy?ohh and karat is a weight too so 1.25 karat diamond is smaller than 1.25 karat of almost anything else just so you know. [Edited on September 14, 2011 at 12:22 PM. Reason : .]

I didn't say the emerald was gaudy.
9/14/2011 12:21:42 PM
i recounted arrows....<- moron... yeah i don't think there is anything made by levian is... well anything less than gaudy.I also like the blue ring but i don't like rounded stones.[Edited on September 14, 2011 at 12:24 PM. Reason : .]

It's okay, we all have our derp moments

9/14/2011 12:25:27 PM
Why would you ever sell it anyway?

Divorce.

Ah yes, the lost or stolen clause is pretty key with insurance.
9/14/2011 1:16:10 PM
^^Yeah, "appraised value" for insurance is pretty universally 1.5-2x the actual value of the ring. That's mostly so they can artificially jack your insurance rates. Our damn renters insurance more than DOUBLED when we added the ring to it. Some serious bullshit.
9/14/2011 2:30:58 PM
yeah it's kinda beat how my homeowners covers a 250k house, and adding a 20k appraised ring jacked the yearly premium up 155%.

I definitely want an emerald or a sapphire as my large stone on my engagement ringbut my band needs to be like Kim Kardashian's with the diamond stunners going around my finger
9/14/2011 3:21:49 PM
^that must be terribly uncomfortable
9/14/2011 3:24:25 PM
nah its not badI've worn chunky rings for a long time beforealso she's right about silver...I wear a silver right hand ring daily and it will tarnish if I stop wearing it
9/14/2011 3:40:57 PM
how thick is that ring? I have one thats 3 mm thick and it digs into my other fingers enough that i don't wear it anymore. and its my wedding ring
9/14/2011 3:45:44 PM
I'm sure its bigbut I doubt it has any pointyness to it...looks pretty smoothI used to wear a silver eternity band that I looooved and it was chunky but with round stones...just had to get used to that being between my fingers...after that it was all good

I was able to negotiate with my (now) wife to get her grandmother's ring re-set and not have to drop 5k or whatever on a piece of glass.
9/14/2011 4:56:30 PM
That's what my husband did, but the negotiating was with my grandmother for her ring. And it means all the world to me.

probably should have negotiated some with diamond's direct but got the setting 15% off because of a sale and got 18 months no interest
9/14/2011 5:08:00 PM
my 2 cents...i was able to get DD down $1500 on something over $8k total...if you got the cash, then negotiate another % off due to cash payment and lastly...they will ship it somewhere out of state for $30 fully insured and you don't pay tax!
9/14/2011 7:02:25 PM
isn't there a website that people sell engagement ring after the couple is broken up?
9/14/2011 11:56:17 PM
^ there are, but some are scams... my cousin tried to sell hers via a site like that (which actually had "good ratings") but they only tried paying her for gold weight because she didn't have the papers
9/15/2011 12:06:53 AM
jewelry in general is just about the biggest waste of money that I can think of, and the idea of dropping 3 months salary on a ring is insane.
9/15/2011 12:09:16 AM
I like jewelryit's pretty.. and shiny

Personally I'd prefer a deep people amethyst but sometimes those can be just as expensive as a diamond
9/15/2011 6:21:34 AM
who are you people dealing with for insurance? I added a zero deductible 100% replacement/no questions asked policy onto mine for just over $100 (to cover 15k) If it doubled your homeowners policy or added 50% you got fucked, and its time to call state farm and add it as a separate policy.
9/15/2011 7:22:03 AM
Geez I hadnt even thought about insurance yet
9/15/2011 10:36:05 AM
I only got 16%. Guess I am not as good as I thought.
9/21/2011 6:36:47 PM
Can you negotiate appraised rings?
7/13/2013 10:37:09 AM
7/13/2013 11:45:28 AM
Appraised are fake values as an fyi. If you buy a ring and it's appraised for less than you paid for it you got royally fucked. For a little back ground, I bought my fiancee (soon to be wife in 2 weeks) a 6k dollar diamond ring. It was appraised at 15k. It's a 1.5 carat princess diamond, it was a hell of a deal (got it at Reliable downtown who my family has used before). I like Bailey's and Diamonds Direct, but Alan at Reliable was the easiest to deal with. I had my Dad with me who is a jewelry master and art of negotiation, didn't have to do much. I think it was originally priced (phonily) at 11k (probably really an 8k ring) after 2 days got them down. It's not fun, but if you have the right person it can be easy enough.
