http://news.cnet.com/8301-27076_3-20117512-248/prototype-3g-macbook-buyer-gets-parts-back/Looks like I'm back in the news, heh. Apple shipped me the parts I'd actually bought, after I pestered them about it.

Good luck with your legal action.Shit's still fucked up.

Article says only some of the parts you bought were returned. Are you still missing some, or did you get them all?

should of received quite a bit more compensation than you did in that situation..IMO crazy story..one you can share with the grandkids one day

The Coz: All the parts I actually purchased myself were returned. Hard drive, memory, and battery. So I just talked to the guy I originally bought the laptop from! He actually worked for nVidia, they were working together with Apple. He was given the laptop (to keep, not just for work) and was under no impression there was any restriction as to selling it/etc. He hadn't heard anything about any of this whole mess, and was surprised. Even offered to refund my money I paid him for it on hearing Apple had taken it away. Makes this whole thing even odder, and I guess I'll see what happens next.

That is wild. I hope what you discover is that your laptop was leagally obtained and that apple must return it back to you... or the 70k it was fetching on eBay.
10/8/2011 7:32:30 PM
^That would never happen. Even if it does turn out it was legitimately obtained I can't imagine they'd let go now that its back in their hands. In all likelihood it has already been destroyed. I think they just wanted to send a strong message that things like this are not to show up on blogs or be listed on eBay, OR ELSE.

Only judge Mathis can solve this.

on Engadget today, but you heard it here first http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/10/prototype-macbook-pro-repair-parts-returned-to-owner-3g-antenna/

The original owner, the nvidia guy, should contact apple and claim it as his and try to get it back. lol
10/10/2011 5:02:56 PM
In all likelihood it was an Engineering Sample provided by Apple to nVidia, and as such there were probably rules about how it was to be used. Of course there were no markings on it that indicated that, which there usually are with such things. Who knows.

I wish someone would elect to not settle one of these types of lawsuits.

^ Sadly, the end of that story is that they go broke due to litigation expenses.
