My mom works in an insurance office and just emailed me saying that she (and I) thought I had earthquake insurance on my homeowners policy. Turns out, I don't. I'll be getting that added now.

The quake wasn't even 5 minutes old and someone at work here updated their home insurance to cover quakes.

What causes an earthquake to show up on one spot on the map to feel the vibrations from north to south?

My parents live in Stafford, VA, right above Fredericksburg, VA, about an hour North of Richmond.

Just got off the phone with my brother - some of our pictures fell off the wall, and his can of coke fell off the coffee table, but other than that, everything is ok.


I was in Apex, standing in a parking lot, and didn't feel a thing.

weird. My wife and coworkers said a bit ago that they felt shaking in their building (in Greenville, SC) so I got online to see what it could be whenever I got back to my computer. She messaged me at like 2. I didn't feel squat though.
