Arguing about your "rightness" is futile. And your support won't matter. Kids right out of college who are scraping by to go to a fancy restaraunt will never have the clout or jack of a family of five. They spend more money and you look like a self absorbed idiot picking on Somebody's kid. Besides, what are you going to do? Walk up to the parents and say something? It sure would be embarrassing to get yer ass whipped by papa bear for message with the cubs. Or worse, mom slaps you or you get a drink in the face. Go ahead, hit her back and see what happens.Lawlz at myself.

This is America, capitalism reigns supreme, therefore we cannot allow restaurants to make rules like this which they feel will benefit them...we know better than them! If you can't understand this logic, you make me laugh...that is the end game...BOOMAlso, are people really arguing against this because they've never had their meal ruined?* I assume because you've never had this happen you can therefore speak for all people everywhere?* If it never happens, then why would a restaurant feel like they need to implement this?[Edited on July 28, 2011 at 5:17 PM. It's not like you're really punishing the kids.Kids under 6 don't really care if they are in first class or are eating at a fancy restaurant (in fact they would probably rather go to McDonalds) so people pretending like these rules hurt kids in any way are being ridiculous. It hurts parents who have kids and don't want to pay for a babysitter.
7/28/2011 5:45:00 PM

i have about as much empathy with this movement, as the people within this movement have for kids.same goes for old people.i think 'modern' culture is overly me-centric and not at all empathetic to kids and old people. kind of pisses me off actually. these fuchsticks forget that they were ever kids or will ever be old.[Edited on July 28, 2011 at 6:59 PM. I love kids, and I do empathize with kids. I hate when people try to restrict kids from being kids. But there are times and places where kids who aren't old enough to control their behavior are appropriate, and also times and places where kids who are old enough need to put on their good behaviors. I sure knew that when I was a kid, but it seems like a lot nowadays don't. And yes, I'm sure that was true when I was a kid too, but obviously I wasn't observing it then, and looking back I'd hate to know I was ever allowed to disturb anyone else. Like others have said, the kids don't care that they aren't being allowed into a bar at midnight. This is aimed solely at the parents who refuse to understand where having there child in tow is appropriate.[Edited on July 28, 2011 at 7:02 PM. Reason : I agree society is too me-centric, but that argument can be used from either side.]

What a crock of shit. There are all sorts of "alternative" lifestyle threads and posts and people on this website who would throw a fucking temper tantrum if anyone deemed their actions or morals poor. But the same people want to be able to tell "normal" families there are times an places which are inappropriate for children. Who decides what is appropriate? The man, who you hate? Hippie parents? Affluent middle class families? Elitist rich folk?Pot, pot...kettle calling[Edited on July 28, 2011 at 7:06 PM. Reason : .]

maximus makes some solid points. Why shouldn't babies be allowed everywhere? Who are we to say it's inappropriate to bring babies to a chess match, or a strip club, or even to the office with us!If we start making rules now, where will it end? Eventually we'll be forced to just stop having babies altogether! Oh the humanity!
7/28/2011 8:11:09 PM
I thought the "me culture" was parents not training their kids to respect other people and acting like assholes without regards for anyone else.Silly me.I like how expecting someone to control their kids in public is selfish. That's turning common sense on its ear. Jesus christ, the faggot above thinks the person who asks the parent to control their child is in the wrong. It also must be wrong to ask someone to stop talking on the phone during a movie.Fucking bizarro world.

I think, even more than being loud in restaurants, I'm disturbed by the numbers of free-roaming toddlers in retail stores these days. I was on a leash or carried or had my hand held when I was a kid, but nowadays a lot of parents just lets their sprint around the aisles.I'm at the point where I live in fear of accidentally killing some kid with a grocery cart when it dives out from behind the organic onions like an 8-point buck trying to cross I-40.
7/28/2011 8:35:15 PM
^ I lolled at that. I've learned to stay away from Target on Saturdays because of the kids- however we can't resist Costco. Free sample day! I can't tell how many times I've gotten banged into with some little kid pushing the huge 3'x 4' cart, or almost ran one over because our cart was full of beer and heavy. One little squirt even held onto my leg like I was its mom or something. I need a beer after dealing with that .

The problems described could be mitigated through actions other than posted 'bans'. I don't think classy establishments have that much of a problem with kids going crazy; they are isolated incidences. I agree with the sitter idea; however, when you're on vacation, it makes it kinda hard.[Edited on July 29, 2011 at 8:41 AM. Reason : .]

Kids are kids, they are supposed to be noisy, bratty, etc at certain points of their lives. If an adult cannot bear with this, then he is being childish. I have no problem with any place letting kids in. I had the same stand before I had a kid.

^^ I hope you're not the sort to completely ignore your child's behavior while out in public.
7/30/2011 2:52:05 PM
I think somebody else posted this in another thread...one of the reasons why parents appear to ignore their children's loud, obnoxious behavior is because they don't even hear it. They've totally tuned it out. It's still horrible, but it's nice to know they're not purposefully being inconsiderate.
7/30/2011 3:15:31 PM
i was at a steak restaurant where the damn kids were spitting spitballs all across the restaurant, and the parents were oblivious. I got fed up and went over and said something to the kids myself. The parents were just like "uhh, oh... sorry" I BLAME THE PARENTS
7/30/2011 3:29:15 PM
My favorite is when a child is running around the restaurant and almost runs into a server carrying a platter filled with hot food. And yet, it's more likely the negligent parents would blame the restaurant than blame themselves for allowing their child to pose a danger to others and themselves. When I worked at a restaurant, I was always terrified that that night would be the night a toddler found themselves covered in hot soup and steak because their parents were ignoring them
