Hard to fuck with that logic

Wow, didn't realize Raleigh didn't have a Capital Grille yet. Maybe in 20 or 30 years Raleigh will get a Del Frisco's or a Morton's or a Palm.^^Capital Grille is legit[Edited on May 19, 2016 at 3:18 PM. Reason : .]

Peak City Grill in Apex cooks a really good steak.Used to like Angus Barn for the value but have been disappointed the last couple times I went. Probably won't be going back.
5/19/2016 6:14:19 PM
LOL TT10 is so elite
5/19/2016 9:18:19 PM
Naw it was just a Charlotte vs Raleigh troll
5/19/2016 10:56:56 PM
Went to Sullivans tonight...probably won't repeat.Food was way over-seasoned, and I like way more salt than most others.Steak was tough.Service was fun to look at but otherwise lacking.Drinks were ok. Music was shitty.Capital Grille is the same price but the entire experience, most importantly the food, is far superior.[Edited on January 28, 2017 at 1:16 AM. Reason : btw Costco sells USDA Prime...sooo much better than HT's beef]

Sullivan's was my favorite steakhouse for years... especially when I lived in Raleigh in my mid 20s... it was the first time I dined at an upscale restaurant (well, Ruth's Chris was technically the 1st- right out of college broke, trying to impress a girl- failed). But as much as I love Sullivan's, their quality has deteriorated in the past 10 years (well, the one in Charlotte at least). I think it has something to do with being part of the same restaurant group as Del Frisco's. DF is the top of the line and Sullivan's seems to have been relegated to a 2nd tier high-end steakhouse. My fav steakhouse has been Del Frisco's, but the last time we had dinner there, it was very disappointing. What's strange is that I pretty much wrote off ever going back. It's strange to be so critical of a restaurant, but when you spend $250 on dinner, EVERYTHING becomes something to criticize.
1/28/2017 10:04:46 AM
shit. $250 should feed 10 people
1/28/2017 1:51:49 PM
I'm really partial to Vinnie's
1/28/2017 5:15:10 PM
Ryan's Steakhouse really impressed me on Friday night. Hadn't gone in awhile, took a date there on a hunch. The steak was top notch, and you can't beat the unlimited soft serve and sides.
1/29/2017 9:37:35 AM
Death & Taxes has my personal favorite. I think I'd even make a special trip for it.
1/29/2017 1:52:49 PM
I do like Death and Taxes' steak. The cool thing about eating there is that it'is not a steak house and you can get amazing appetizers/sides that are beyond the typical steakhouse fare. I feel like at a certain point steak has a ceiling as far as quality and what you can really do with it. It becomes being about the atmosphere you like, the sides that are offered, and the service.

2 bottles of wine, app, 2 entrees, 2 deserts, 2 drinks at Del Frisco's = $250.

so where's the best value steak at?
1/30/2017 11:09:03 PM
BTTIn town for the weekend. Doing Death and Taxes tomorrow, want some other steak place for Saturday. Capital Grille has good reviews and people seem to like it so leaning that way.
1/31/2018 10:59:39 AM
yeah i'm a big fan of capital grille...i almost always get their porcini rubbed bone-in ribeye with balsamic pictured at the top of this page[Edited on January 31, 2018 at 11:11 AM. Reason : still need to go to vinnies]

I was quite disappointed in Capital Grille when I went 3 weeks ago. Steaks weren’t bad, they just weren’t great. Very plain. Salads came out within 5 minutes of ordering followed by steaks and sides 5 minutes later. Wife wasn’t even half way through salad when everything hit the table. When I think of fine dining and dropping $200+ on dinner, I normally like it to last more than 45 minutes. We commented that we were disappointed in timing of plates hitting the table, which got us a flute of champagne. I will say their Brussels sprouts were phenomenal and dessert was good, but service and steaks weren’t worth it to the point my wife didn’t want to go back even for restaurant week. We prefer Fleming’s or Ray’s.
1/31/2018 11:54:10 AM
Man, I'm glad I'm not nearly as much of an insufferable dick as you are.
1/31/2018 12:10:44 PM
^ This.FFS you pretentious ass, I'd rather my steak be resting from off the grill on the table in front of me instead of under a heat lamp while I eat my salad.Want a longer dining experience? Order an app, enjoy some drinks, let your waiter know that you're in no rush. Just eat at home from now on and spare everyone else.
1/31/2018 12:30:09 PM
I mean, you guys were warned, it's in his username.
1/31/2018 1:10:25 PM
I've always found CG's service itself to be great. We went recently for restaurant week and the dish timing was also not optimal, but they were completely slammed so I didn't mind as much. On our other visits it's been fine. Flavor wise on the steak I got the strip that was part of the RW menu, and while the quality was amazing the seasonings could have been better. Get that porcini rubbed ribeye next time
1/31/2018 2:01:13 PM
You guys are right. I should have told them I didn’t want the steaks on the table within 10 minutes of ordering, since most folks expect them to come out that fast at high end steak houses. Just like you don’t want to wait 2 hours, I think 10 minutes is a wee bit rushed. Glad to know the few folks posting above me are holier than thou and my expectations of a few minutes between courses is unreasonable and therefore makes me a pretentious ass. SO? Outback? Long horn?
1/31/2018 2:44:47 PM
Service at a high-end steakhouse should know not to put the entree down when salads/apps are only half finished. That's basic shit.At the same time, I never would have complained while at the restaurant. That's a dick move.
1/31/2018 2:54:40 PM
that's a way to get your steak skeeted on
1/31/2018 3:53:18 PM
Yeh definitely pretentious. Some people will complain about anything.

Outback gets my nomination for best value steak...happy to hear some competitors tho.

Some folks here might consider the Peddler a value steak. Regardless, I <3 the Peddler for a nice prime rib.

I haven't been to Peddler since like 1999. Fuck I'm old. Only thing I remember is they bring the meat around and ask how big you'd like it. Namsayin?
1/31/2018 9:56:36 PM
Prices are good there. Comes with sides and the salad bar etc. Rjrumple has a good point.[Edited on January 31, 2018 at 10:06 PM. Reason : Need to go back ]
1/31/2018 10:06:11 PM
Never been to The Peddler, need to correct that. For research purposes of course.
2/1/2018 7:38:02 AM
I like the Peddler. It's close to where I live. But you need to be prepared for the fact that its clientele is almost exclusively churched-up white people any day of the week.
2/1/2018 8:06:58 AM
^And I would say the clientele is typically older too.One problem is that they don't allow reservations or any kind of call-ahead seating, so you may find yourself sitting at a small bar from circa 1973 for a while. But the bartenders there really know their stuff.

2/2/2018 6:02:32 PM
Death and Taxes finally failed me. Steak had set out a long time and looked dry. The knives wouldn't cut it because of so much sinewy pieces. Shrimp dish was pretty bad, and tasted like some frozen shrimp you'd get at Costco if you forgot about it in the refrigerator for a week with a thin sauce with the consistency of salt water.Maybe next time.
2/2/2018 6:32:51 PM
imho, the whole foods dry-aged cabinet outcompetes most raleigh steakhouses.carver's creek was my jam years ago but i couldn't tell if it was nostalgia or if it was good. I think i was their only customer in the final few years. Most people never even knew how to get there.
