I wouldn't call 58 "young." It's the guys in their 20s/30s/early 40s who died from medical problems or addictions brought on directly by the business that are super tragic.

Yokozuna (Rodney Anoa'i) died at 34, and his cousin Umaga (Eddie Fatu) died at 36.

Don't even get me started on the Von Erichs.

David died at 28.
Kerry died at 33.
Mike died at 23.
Chris died at 21.

One of the saddest stories in sports, not just sports entertainment. Kerry might have had a stupid finisher, but he drew a ton against Flair in Texas. RIP.

I wonder if Lanny Poffo is writing some new poetry for the funeral right now?

What are the odds that Jake Roberts outlives everyone else that was on the WWF roster circa 1987?

You wanna play 21? I got 22.

Wanna play Blackjack, I got 2 of those too.

Wanna play Aces and Eights, maybe I got too many of those too.

I still can't believe that Jake the Snake is still alive.
If there are still any fans that have not seen "Beyond the Mat"
I would recommend checking it out. It explains Jake's messed up
childhood which had a hand in his current drug problems. It does not
excuse how he has treated his family but it does shed some light on
his background.

I know I am gonna get flamed for this but I grew up in the early 80s
in upstate SC. As a youngster my dad would get us front row tickets
for NWA shows at the old Greenville Memorial Auditorium. Because
the NWA was still relatively local back then the wrestles were more open
to meet and greets before the events. I got the chance to shake hands with and meet the
Rock & Roll Express, Ronnie & Jimmie Garvin, Magnum T.A., Nikita Koloff,
Tully Blanchard, Ric Flair among others.

I still have Great American Bash 84/85 on VHS Cassette Tapes. I need to get those
converted to DVD sometime soon.

The NWA was never local. It was formed as a way for wrestling territories to share talent, and was international (all of the US, Canada, Mexico, and Japan) when it was created in the '40s.

I read that part of the paragraph, thinking how strange it was to be talking about

ITT, and wondering why dudes from compton would willingly step foot into SC.

Then i read the rest of the sentence. derp.

My grandad was a fixture at the NWA Mid-Atlantic tapings at WRAL back in the 70s and 80s. Ric Flair was also a fixture around the Mission Valley area in the 70s. My dad would see him at whatever pool hall came before Champions down there.

Considering I lived in Raleigh, NC and Memphis (lived 3 blocks from the Mid South Coliseum, met Lawler once at the Delta State Fair, but it was in his later "Burger King" years, not when he was still a beast), it's too bad I totally turned off wrestling about 10 years ago. I just can't sit through the McMahon family angles for whatever redeeming qualities are left. Maybe someone can prove to me it's changed.

Quote :
"Behold this humble entourage
Their heads are bowed in reverence
At the very slightest whisper of one name
Exalting in his splendor
Which is altogether fitting
Of the people and the land from whence he came

False modesties are commonplace
As kingdoms rise and fall
But I the Genius full of glory and renown
Say the Macho Man is everything
That everybody, everywhere
Would ever, ever want to wear a crown

I say this King deserves a Queen
Beside him on the throne
And Sherri is the fairest in the land
Nobody else is worthy
Of this monumental honor
And the regal splendor of his royal hand

We witness the dethroning
Of one Jim "The Hacksaw" Duggan
Whose crown and robe are in a state of ravage
I now remove my mortarboard
And place it near my heart
And thus proclaim you "Macho King" Randy Savageā€"
