for those of you old enough to remember 1986 (scantly) and 2003, welcome to the REAL red sox nation. but also, let's not forget 1967, 1975, and 1978, and all the other choke jobs.this is the comeupance for this team. a bunch of entitiled fans who think that the franchise never suffered any ill will. as a huge yankee fan, even i hate the pink hats. you guys thought that your little miracle run would last forever. it didn't. suck it boston. you have never been in the same class as the yankees and your last few years of luck seem awfully long ago...don't they?boston chokes in the fall. all is right with the world, again. pretty soon the economy will be good, jobs will be filled, and there will be a democratic congress and republican president.
9/29/2011 8:27:54 AM
^LOL is a yankees fan really calling upon the 80's to discuss bad baseball? ironic.Really couldn't have been a more fitting end to the season. Heads will roll, unfortunately. I don't want to see Tito go, but then again Little was secure right up until he kept Pedro in. I think a manager with 2 WS rings gets kept. I think Theo is let go early and heads to the Cubbies unless the guy from the Rays bolts and cashes in on their improbable fortune post-fire sale.[Edited on September 29, 2011 at 8:51 AM. Reason : .]
9/29/2011 8:44:08 AM
Theo probably has more to do with those WS rings than francona
9/29/2011 9:07:34 AM
maybe. but he absolutely has more to do with things like JD Drew's contract, Dice K's contract, Lackey's contract, Crawford's contract, etc.
9/29/2011 9:16:50 AM
9/29/2011 9:25:01 AM
Tito is a players' manager. same as Torre was. the guy is an ultimate class act and defends his players (to a fault). for guys making 8 figures, it should not be up to the manager to provide the fire they need to go out and play. francona does not run, throw, or hit. he can only put out what the sabrematicians tell him to put out. he's an easy scape goat, but he is not to blame. instead, blame...1)gonzalez; as his production went way down. he didn't even lead the league in RBIs despite having a SIZEABLE lead early in the year2)pappelbon; guy is not lights out. he's good, but not MO good. mike timlin struck fear in my heart in 2004. Pap never really has3)Youk; for being hurt and taking away their only real middle of the order right handed power threat4)John Lester, John Lackey, and Josh Beckett for shitting the bed down the stretch5)Age; it finally caught up with Wakefieldi hate the sox. but they are great rivals. nice to see them suffer, but it is no way Tito's fault.[Edited on September 29, 2011 at 9:41 AM. Reason : right handed]

9/29/2011 10:06:45 AM
who's blaming anybody? i'm just pointing these things out. if you choose to be sour because your team has reverted back to form, tough rocks.go console yourself in your pink sox hat and dry those tears with curt schilling's painted sock.
9/29/2011 10:11:07 AM
9/29/2011 10:20:28 AM
then look in the mirror, fool. perhaps by blame, one could mean, put the onus on, but not hold them deathly accountable. those are five viable reasons.and considering you have only been here four years, i don't take your comments seriously, n00b.kthxbye

9/29/2011 10:29:48 AM
lol - you're just the epitome of a yankeeage didn't catch up with wake. he's the same guy he's always been. when it's good it's great, when it's bad it's awful. he's the 2nd oldest guy in the league and went 7-8 while being able to provide short starts and be a stop gap in a pitching rotation that had lots of holes punched in it over the year.and LOL at saying Pap's no rivera - NOBODY'S a fucking rivera - he's the best damn closer in the history of baseball. Pap had 31 saves, 3 blown saves, and a 4-1 record with the sole loss last night. his WHIP was .93. he had an 8:1 SO to walk ratio. but yeah, he fucking sucks. [Edited on September 29, 2011 at 10:36 AM. Reason : ..]
9/29/2011 10:29:54 AM
also, maximus, you criticized gonzalez not leading the league in RBI, as if RBI is a reliable metric with which to evaluate performance and isn't inherently flawed and ultimately worthless.
9/29/2011 10:36:30 AM
yawn. flame on n00bs, not caring.

i, for one, appreciate the use of the "0"s in n00bs. it's a quality troll.look, aaron fucking boone was worse than this shit ass collapse. the sox won 2 world series in the last 8 years. I'll take it.
9/29/2011 11:47:36 AM
^ whatever helps you cope with the sense of crushing despair you must feel after witnessing one of the most catastrophic and unbelievable collapses in sports history. hell, aaron boone wasn't even a collapse. that was just one bad pitch in a hard fought game. that wasn't even embarrassing. this was just....my god. the red sox were a lot of the "experts" at ESPN's (lol) favorites to win the whole damn thing. instead, your rivals took the division from you, and then a 9 game (!) WC lead was squandered, ultimately boiling down to losing 2 of 3, and 5 of the last 7, to the baltimore orioles, a Very Bad Baseball Team. now a team with a payroll that's like $130 million less than the red sox is going to the playoffs in their stead. aaron boone was worse, i guess...[Edited on September 29, 2011 at 12:49 PM. For me '03 was far worse. At least this year you could kind of see it coming the moment the calendar turned to September. I mean this is more embarrassing, but the '03 loss was something I didn't get over for a long time, long time. It took me years to be able to actually watch a replay of that Boone HR. With this year they were the best team along side the Phillies from May-August and then totally blew up. Injuries played a part in it, but Buccholz went out in June and the team was still great until September came. Losing Youk hurt too, but with Bard, Beckett, Lester, Gonzalez, Crawford, Reddick/Drew, etc. all not being able to pick up the slack made that 9 game lead vanish insanely fast. I would hate for Theo or Francona to go over this. Its more on Theo than Francona for not having enough viable pitching options at the backend of the rotation, but you can't blame either of them for the absolute ineffectiveness of a huge number of the guys on the field in September who had been getting it done all year up to that point. I feel like aside from the glaring issues of the backend of the rotation and the entirety of the bullpen, the biggest thing is Youk's health. I don't think he's suited to play 3B, I feel like it banged him up playing that corner all year and it affected his consistency at the plate and his ability to stay healthy. Ortiz will be back, but I would love to see Youk at DH some point asap.V Wow. I thought I hated teams like UNC and NYY, but you've got an unhealthy obsession with this shit. Also, does anybody care to mention the completely transparent and active role that steroids played in the Red Sox's 2 World Series wins in the 2000s? Not going to look this up, but I do believe Manny was MVP of at least one of those runs. It's a little cliche, but still...
