I'd leave the battle system and the interfaces alone for the most part.

I'd like if they build on the existing story, whether it's through new sidequests or something. Give us a new wrinkle to some of these characters. Maybe introduce a couple of new ones that won't take away from the original story but will at least be a good supplement.

To that point, change the maps, change the enemies, change the locations and the methods used to get the best materia and weapons in the game. I don't want to sleepwalk through the game because I know what I'm supposed to do because I've played through it multiple times (I'm pretty sure I never made it past Disc 1, so I'm not one of those people). Making the adjustments though would provide playability to those that grew up on the game almost 20 years ago.

Do that, and all will be good.

My favorite FF was VI. Between that and Chrono Trigger, they deserve the HD Remake more than VII.

^^ this. I don't even care if they add a bunch of useless shit as long as it isn't necessary and doesn't fuck with the core gameplay

How about they make it so that if you save it while you are in that final dungeon you have a way to get out if you aren't at a high enough level to continue. That shit pretty much ruined my entire game back in the day.

in FFVII you could go back out of the crater or whatever. in FFVI I got to the final dungeon but could never find the boss to actually fight. I still have it and my SNES, though, so maybe a replay is in order.

Either way, that's what the gameshark was made for

^^You might've gotten stuck where I did. There's a treasure chest that appears like it's already been opened but it actually has a switch inside it.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle battles. I'm sure they'll keep the ATB system, but it'd be weird to have these great graphics but still have battles where your party stays on one side of the screen and the enemies stay on the other.

I also wonder about minigames. The physics for snowboarding and the motorcycle probably haven't aged well.

I could see a scenario where the fight is actually dynamic. Where the fighters are in and around each other. However, each attack slows time such that you can make selections and dynamically attacks within the setup of the characters relation to each other.

2 cents

I mean the combat was still turn based in X, and was much more 3D. They'd likely go that style if they stuck with the same battle system.

Personally, I'd like the option for something new. I think I've outgrown that old JRPG turn based system.

i was looking forward to it

now i'm not

if you want to call it FF7, make it FF7. otherwise, just call it FF24 or whatever number they're on now.

I mean that certainly doesn't sound like its something different. Just makes it sound like they are doing more then just redoing the visuals. I would hope they would completely remake the minigames, add some new stuff, etc.

I personally hope they do change the game significantly. I want the same combat system but I hope they revamp a lot of the other content. Hopefully they add more as well, maybe some crisis core/dirge of cerebus storyline stuff.
