JT3, that map is rather inaccurate. Irene was about 75 miles south of the line drawn in it.

Ugh dear morons on Facebook, if you don't live at the coast stop acting like the end of the world is coming. Seriously it's like people don't realize that if you live inland unless the eye heads your way at worst it's gonna be a rainy blustery day and if you live in the triangle it may just be cloudy.

Latest wind speed probabilities. Number in parenthesis is the total chance for that strength of sustained wind over the course of the hurricane. (34kt = 39mph, minimum tropical storm force winds, 64kt = 74 mph, minimum hurricane strength).

What are they saying about the chances of bad weather in Raleigh?

Thinking about traveling this weekend...

...from Hampton Roads.

He's more worried about the drivers. He works in NYC and dealing with New Jersey drivers in GOOD weather is a hassle.

while I'm sure they're overreacting, you're definitely underreacting, 50 mph winds and driving rain are nothing to scoff at and we've gotten that numerous times form hurricanes skirting the coast

so what are we going to be buying if there's no power? serious question. i could see something like local produce or whatever...but stores aren't going to open if there's no power, gas pumps don't work w/o power, etc.

Lowes forgot to order sandbags so says the clerk there. I saw people buying bags of screened concrete sand in plastic wrapping for $3.46 per bag! That's just crazy when there's a giant beach made of free sand.....

My roommate, the paper scientist, seems to think that nothing will come of this hurricane. He was just worrying earlier about his car under his parents shelter.

In other words, nothing to see here folks. Expect a sunny day with light showers.

I have decided I will not be staying at my house. I will be staying with my parents. They are still on the island, just not as close to the water as my house is.

There have been a few rain showers. The swells aren't really that big...bigger than normal, but nothing special.

This. In 2003 Isabel snapped a 40' oak in half in my back yard. Luckily it only took out the fence. There are two more large oaks in our yard and a huge oak that is leaning toward our house at a "completely demolish the house and likely kill us in the process" angle in our neighbors yard. I stress all these storms.
