The Tech Talk thread reference the Ipad2 lauch lies:
message_topic.aspx?topic=609822

The blog post in question:
http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2011/03/03/steve-jobs-reality-distortion-takes-its-toll-on-truth/

I give Apple credit. Starting at the top with Jobs they breed a mindset of being arrogant pricks who
believe their products are better than anything else around. They do a damn good job of pushing that
philosophy and their Fanbois eat it up.
A great salesperson knows how to walk that line between reality and what he wants you to believe about his product in
a way that makes you want to buy anything from him.

No. I found the cheapest dual socket server Dell offered. They have single socket servers, but being that the Mac Pro comes with a dual socket motherboard, it would have been a shitty comparison.

And the reason I mention the video card is that the Mac Pro is cheaper, faster and it comes with more.

also, the Dell doesn't even come with an OS. That is just the box.

You know there's a difference between what a server is supposed to be and what a Mac Pro is supposed to be, right?

It kind of makes me happy I don't have cable so I don't have to watch stupid Apple commercials anymore.

And LOL at all the Apple bitches getting butthurt because they don't like being called out for buying overpriced pretty things.

You realize that the intent of a computer's use is irrelevant when comparing hardware. Fact is the Mac Pro offers server grade hardware at a lower price than the Dell, yet the Mac Pro is being called out for being overpriced.

The only way you're going about disputing it is rolling your eyes and saying "YEAH BUT THE MAC PRO IS TO BE USED AS A PERSONAL COMPUTER AND THE DELL IS TO BE USED AS A SERVER RAWR RAWR IRRELEVANT RAWR!" The Dell offers less computing power, with similar server grade hardware (dual socket motherboard, ECC memory, Quad Core Xeon Processors, RAID ability) at a significantly higher price over the Mac Pro.

Also, are you aware that Apple has taken the same Mac Pro configuration and attached the word "server" to it?

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/mac_pro?mco=MTg5MTY5NDQ

ZOMG IT SAYS "SERVER!" TOTALLY DIFFERENT COMPUTER, NEVERMIND THE HARDWARE IS THE SAME!

Anyway. Here is what the Mac Pro SERVER has:

Quote :
"Two 2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” (8 cores)
8GB (4x2GB)
1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive
1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB
One 18x SuperDrive
User's Guide"

With Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server
Apple Care 3 year warranty.

Price? $4,023.00

The Dell:

PowerEdge T410:
PowerEdge T410 Chassis w/up to 6 Cabled HDs, Quad-Pack LED Diagnostics

Processor:
Intel® Xeon® E5620 2.4Ghz, 12M Cache,Turbo, HT, 1066MHz Max Mem (x2)

Memory:
8GB Memory (4x2GB), 1333MHz Single Ranked RDIMMs for 2 Processors, Advanced ECC

Hard Drives (Multi-Select):
1TB 7.2K RPM SATA 3Gbps 3.5-in Cabled Hard Drive (x2)

Internal Optical Drive:
DVD-RW, SATA, Internal

And 3 year warranty.

Price? $5062.00

Nevermind the video card, why is the Dell $1000 more than the Apple? The Dell also has no OS or really any software either. And why is Dell charging me $359 for a 1TB HDD, but Apple only $150? And why does Dell offer external RAID cards for $600? DON'T THEY KNOW NEWEGG HAS THEM FOR $300!!! And why is Apple charging me $150 to upgrade from 8 GB (4x2GB) to 12 GB (3x4GB) while Dell has me going from 8 GB (4x2GB) to 12 GB (6x2GB) for $213? I'm getting higher density modules and more upgrade-ability with Apple for a lower price than I do with Dell? And why is the 2nd processor on the Dell $579 when I can go to Newegg and buy the same processor for $389.99.

The only thing I can tell with the Dell is that Dell offers more indepth configuration options. However, they "overprice" their hardware.

If Apple overcharges the Mac Pro, then what does that mean Dell is doing? Rape us?

Care to link to a cheaper tower? I hope you're not looking at AMD systems and rack or blade servers. Again, APPLE TO APPLE COMPARISONS.

^^ LOL! At that price it comes with 2 1.6 ghz quad core processors. Get out of here with that shit.

I put in a 2.26 Ghz quad core 2x, 6 GB or RAM (6x1gb) a 1 TB HDD and kept the shit video card, and it came out to be a little more expensive than Apple's quad core 2x which is at 2.4 ghz with 6gb of RAM (6x1gb), 1 TB HDD and a better video card.

Try again.

^^^ Yup, you got me on my lack of unfamiliarity with Dell's product line-up. If your goal was to prove that Dell offers a dual socket computer for less than $6000, you succeeded.

You however failed in showing that Dell was actually cheaper than Apple when spec'd comparable.

Seems like each time I try to configure the Dell to match one of Apple's Mac Pros, it comes out to be more expensive. I just tried 2 6 core Xeons and it comes out slower and more expensive.

My issue with it is they're suggesting things like you can't have books on other phones, or listen to all of your music which may or may not involve itunes, etc. Those commercials are catered towards stupid people. They're basically saying, as I said before, "our target market are idiots, so you must be an idiot to buy an iPhone" which is basically the stance of every Android/Blackberry/Windowswhateverthefuck7 fanboy out there.

I'm pretty sure that toilet paper and cutting edge technology have slightly different marketing strategies.

That's just a really dishonest assessment of Charmin's message. But it's to be expected from someone who will defend Apple products with their last dying breath.

Not surprisingly, you're too blinded by your hatred and overall stupidity to see the point I'm making. All companies will try to make their products look better than competitors when they're all basically selling the same thing. It's the entire point of advertising.

You'd love to put me in the "stupid Apple fanboy" category and dismiss anything I have to say as a result. But the fact of the matter is that I'm not defending Apple at all in this thread. I'm just pointing out the stupidity as a result of a small group of people that are every bit as passionate as this group of Apple fanboys that they all hate so much. Someone that wouldn't buy a product just because of the label on the box is every bit as blinded and ignorant as someone who buys it for the same reason. Picking on hipsters is just as much of an annoying trend as actually being a hipster. And if you're going to base your purchasing decisions on something as trivial as a commercial, or who doesn't make you hang up posters on the wall at your crappy retail job then you're just not that smart to begin with, so your opinion really isn't worth all that much.

By the way, since it appears that I need to spell every single thing out for you, of course it was a dishonest assessment of Charmin's message, you spectacular retard. I was doing the exact same thing that the previous poster above me was doing. You can take practically any ad for any product and turn it into "well our product has [this feature], so everyone that uses our product must be too stupid to be without [this feature]." if you already go into viewing that ad with a bias towards it.

Does it hurt being that stupid, or do you just get used to it?

Keep thinking about the bear and maybe you'll get it one day.

My entire point in posting earlier was to refute the point that Dell's only dual socket offering was $6,000. I have no interest in running through spec by spec comparisons of two overpriced computers.

Though, like Madman pointed out, it's not surprising you defend Apple at every turn since all you do is steal from them.

Which, granted, does bring the price to play in their ecosystem down considerably.
