This is why I want to be rich, so I can fly and see the devastation. I'm still pissed that I didn't get to see 9/11 because I had a "pass or fail" test that day

^source?http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/catalogs/eqs1day-M2.5.xmlThat's the listing for the most recent 2.5+ earthquakes. Nothing other than aftershocks (~5.0) listed.[Edited on March 11, 2011 at 2:17 PM. Reason : usgs]
3/11/2011 2:15:27 PM
another earthquake or another tsunami?
3/11/2011 2:16:32 PM
@BreakingNews just said it was a 6.6 aftershockgotta love twitter
3/11/2011 2:17:37 PM

3/11/2011 2:17:57 PM
I need to get in on this 'twitter'

those skyscrapers waving back and forth in the video looks pretty freaky, but its actually part of their design engineering for situations just like this
3/11/2011 2:21:07 PM
why couldn't this happen in North Korea instead
3/11/2011 2:24:31 PM
Why did this thread have to be in Chit Chat?
3/11/2011 3:08:09 PM
^Because when it was originally created... it wouldn't have gotten any attention in The Lounge. I'm cool with having it moved though.Mods?
3/11/2011 3:15:47 PM
Why move it? It's doing just fine here.
3/11/2011 3:21:06 PM
Looks like I moved back here at the right time
3/11/2011 3:23:10 PM
probably a wise choice. lol
3/11/2011 3:31:07 PM
Most constructive chit chat thread ever. Please move to lounge before these responsible posters take over the beloved chit chat and ruin it
3/11/2011 3:35:56 PM
I would never bother writing intelligent paragraphs for a thread in Chit Chat. Nor would most people. But I kind of want to read posts from the army of engineers who will have paragraphs to write. That is why Chit Chat makes me
3/11/2011 3:38:14 PM
LNG facilityPretty much everything is blowing up. Some good perspective on the ominous statements about the nuclear plants.
3/11/2011 3:42:09 PM
The engineers who would write paragraphs about this would still write it here. If anything, you might want the geo guys, or nukes. Plenty of threads get knowledgeable discussion in here. What would you like us engineers to talk about anyway? Waves and shit? There isn't much but speculation and seeing the fallout at this point. We could get nuclear engineers maybe to chime in on why the back ups failed and what the 'extreme emergency' option that the Japanese plants have in their arsenal, but most of that is out in the news anyway.
3/11/2011 4:08:17 PM
since this is chit chat, and just to make light of a terrible situation...^^lol, looks like a bunch of boobs

radiation levels at the nuke plant are 1000x normal. meltdown imminent
3/11/2011 4:54:51 PM
Taking bets on how long before people start blaming America for this.
3/11/2011 5:07:13 PM
bitches should've invested in a microwave plant
3/11/2011 6:04:57 PM
why does CNN keep showing anchors in China/Japan with speech issues...

Fucking water is tree high. I still can't believe it, it looks like a movie.

i mean its not like this country hasn't rebounded from a nuke or two before

3/11/2011 8:29:02 PM
I haven't read the thread, so I may not be the first to think this, but do think that anyone in Japan stood up, mid-earthquake, pointed out the window and shouted, "GODZIRRRRRAAAAAAA!!!!!" Now that is a once-in-a-lifetime pop culture joke opportunity.

i was in the LABO exchange program....many more years than i care to remember ago.Watari, just south of sendai.........it was clobbered by the tsunami too.I have no idea if my host family is ok or not.
3/11/2011 9:52:08 PM
This is what I think happens with the nuke plantPlant shut down when quake occurred, as normal emergency procedure. First backup power for reactor cooling was external power from another plant. That plant also shut down. Third power source were onsite generators which were damaged in the flood thus there is no power source for cooling operations. Meltdown ensues

I know it's Friday night, and we're all out doing super cool stuff, but was anybody watching the 20/20 special edition coverage of the earthquake? It's bizarre. They played this super intense music and did like a dramatic recap with a weird voiceover. It's like on Entertainment Tonight when thy don't have much of a story and they gotta add a bunch of stuff to make celebrity minutia exciting. But the disaster is is already interesting, and it happened less than 24 hours ago. When did they start dramatizing the news this quickly? I'm so confused.
