theres supposed to be an external server browser (kind of like how you can browse source servers in steam outside of the game) that launches into the game when you pick a server. that makes sense i guess, but its really dumb if you have to exit the game and restart it if you wanna pick a different server.
8/22/2011 9:59:01 AM
Yeah that's terrible.
8/22/2011 10:02:10 AM
they ran most of the demos at E3 and stuff on 2x GTX 580s. There is no way anything below a single 580 or highly OC'd 480 will be able to run this game at or near max @ 1080p.That external server browser was only for ALPHA, I keep saying DICE should have never let EA put a public Alpha, due to people saying stupid shit like this.[Edited on August 22, 2011 at 12:44 PM. 8/22/2011 2:23:17 PM
That is news to me and makes very little sense. I bet after a few months that is changed, but the Alpha version didn't even really have an options menu; so I figured the same went for the server browser. Is there some benefit to doing it like this that I'm not aware of? I know the BC2 in game browser was very slow for a long time. Maybe they have an in game browser in the works but don't want to pull another BC2.Two things,1: BC2 was unable to be played by a mass majority the first day due to the server browser2: We had better be able to skip anything that plays before the game comes up.[Edited on August 22, 2011 at 5:23 PM. In before the BF3 stats server tanks and refuses anyone to join a multiplayer session. lolMy buddy with 460 SLI said he had no issues with the alpha. I'm hopeful my single 5870 will hold its turf.
8/22/2011 5:39:49 PM
The Alpha was only 2 maps and they were very small and honestly look nothing like anything we've seen in videos (especially the newest video). The version of the game was Alpha 1.0.0.0.0 I believe it was the original release, the very first stable copy of the game. There was nothing but infantry and like I said a lot of closed quarters and small maps. The Release Client is going to be much harder to run. At GamesCom they used 2x GTX 580s on all the computers to show the game to the public/press.

as long as you don't want DX11 or Ultra settings at 1080p
8/22/2011 6:41:47 PM
thought dx11 runs faster on amd cards than dx10 api. I can live with high settings. Kinda sucks that they dont make the 5870's anymore cause I was hoping a year later that I would pick up a 2nd one for cheap. Guess I'll have to resort to ebay or buy my friend's card when he dumps his.
8/22/2011 6:55:34 PM
I can combine a 5770 and 6770 in crossfire right? I'm thinking that's what I'll have to do if possible.
8/22/2011 8:41:24 PM
asynchronous crossfire drivers are shitty right now. Would have to wait a while till they dish out the bugs and gain more support. Its a great idea, but damn. I so glad I'm not a programmer to solve that problem. Gotta give people who do that kind of coding props.
8/22/2011 8:58:26 PM
I'm too much of a computer noob to know what that means. Are you saying that two different cards don't work that well, and that it would be better to add another 5770?
8/22/2011 9:01:04 PM
if you want two different amd cards to work together, that's called asynchronous crossfire. Two of the same cards is called synchronous crossfire. In theory, it should work, but driver and software support is still new. Expect quite a few months for them to figure it out, otherwise they'll just drop the idea if it becomes too hard to implement. They are trying to get it to work for their APU with dedicated gpu cards.Right now, I would stick with trying to find a 5770 card if you want to crossfire, otherwise just dump yours on ebay and upgrade to a more powerful gpu(s) solution.
8/22/2011 9:28:38 PM
ah ok, thanks.i may end up dumping the 5770, getting a 6950 and unlocking it to a 6970

8/22/2011 11:59:21 PM
funny, my laptop with a 6650 plays dx11 games faster than dx9/dx10. But that could be driver issues since its the APU with the 6520 integrated.
8/23/2011 1:11:03 AM
Back to the game and not components needed to play the game...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-ukxgldpOo&feature=youtu.belooks like from the previews there will be lots of bright lighting things in BF3, the lasers, flashlights and fire/sparks.
9/5/2011 7:18:20 PM
lmao if they're gonna be DLCing functional items for PC i dont think im gonna buy it
9/5/2011 11:03:49 PM
DLC's have typically been very limited though.
9/6/2011 9:56:08 AM
the only dlc for pc in bc2 was a texture pack.if they're making guns and shit DLC then thats gay as hell
9/6/2011 12:58:07 PM
I don't mind this one single bit.
9/6/2011 9:20:22 PM
I highly doubt ea will cripple game play by making selective firearms as their own dlc. Maybe texture packs and new skins, and don't forget map packs (which we can thank COD for that fucking stupid idea). I just hope map packs come free like in bc2 did with that big update.Anyhow, got my 25% off coupon for the preorder. I'm happy happy happy!
9/15/2011 12:06:31 AM
hoping i can run this at relatively high settings with unlock 6950-->6970 crossfire @ 2560x1440gotta have dat 60 fps
9/15/2011 12:15:39 AM
doubtful, not that res. If you want 60fps at 1440p, then you need to CF your 6950. However, just one 6950 can still get 42fps while the 6970 is 48fps in BC2 at the 2560x1600 res, so I would expect somewhat similar performance to that. Maybe more like in the 30's, which is still quite playable, but since we don't know how the frostbite 2 engine will handle we can only assume at this point.http://www.anandtech.com/show/4061/amds-radeon-hd-6970-radeon-hd-6950/18

Man, I want to be cheap and not buy a new video card and not have to upgrade my windows install as well . . . I might as well get another HD, eliminate the old OS on the current main drive and then go from there . . . sigh, I don't really have the cash for all of that at the moment though.
9/15/2011 11:15:32 AM
News posted on EA blog about multiplayer maps and modes. Each weapon can have up to three accessories! Oh and they tweaked the rush mode a bit, stuff that was annoying in BC2. mcom's can't be blown up by c4 or tank, if the mcom is armed and tickets run out - the game won't just end and if def starts to disarm and dies it will instantly blow up the mcom.

Sometimes, it gets annoying with the attackers who just camp their spawn and fire rockets/tank shells at the mcoms, but I don't think it was worthy to take it completely out. The use of c4 is a little more bold and I don't mind it, I do that a few times myself. I just think the most annoying thing about the mcom was the whole ticket issue; where the game would just end when the mcom was 1/2 sec away from being blown up.Honestly, it would be cool to add a game mode of where you have to destroy a tarket with c4 by blowing out the support walls of a large structure. Like in Red faction. I really liked their physics/building structure in that game even though its a year or two old now. Not sure how the engine handles building materials and/or real structural engineering.
9/16/2011 11:42:36 AM

9/16/2011 2:04:45 PM
Well, I like the idea of adding tickets since its cumulative instead of just completely resetting for each new position. For example, if your team takes out the first two mcom's and you had like 50 tickets left, bc2 would just reset and you loose that initial 50 tickets. BF3 would allow you to keep that initial 50 tickets.EA has a promo right now where you get a free copy of Dead Space 2 with your pre-order of BF3. Apparently, you can still get the game if you ordered it recently before they posted the promo.http://store.origin.com/store/ea/html/pbPage.bf3promo/?ClickID=cas4xnpivakknvl47npknsffxpi7zk77lnkaTo obtain DS2 AFTER you pre-ordered BF3 recently by a few days, this is how you add it:1. Open Origin Beta software2. Click the ? help button in the top bar of Origin3. Click the 'Life Chat' button and wait for an EA CS (roughly 5 mins for me)4. Tell them: "Yes, I was wondering about the promotion for Battlefield 3 and Dead Space 2. I recently pre-ordered BF3 on origin and was wondering if I can get it added to my account"5. @ Seedless: no a 550ti nor a 560ti will max this game at 1080p. Most guesses are to max everything in DX11 at 1080p you are going to need at least a 580, maybe more. You can assume BC2 + 40% on requirements and it may be higher.
9/18/2011 12:21:03 AM
BF3's engine isn't going to be that much of a performance hit BlackDog. If anything, what we saw with the alpha, its going to yield very similar frame rates as BC2. FB2 engine is far more advanced and more efficient that FB1 engine was. If anything, we'd see a light 10-20% performance hit. FB1 engine sucked at rendering transparencies associated with water. You could get 60+ frames elsewhere and then down to 20 if you were near a water fall. Will the 550ti hit 60fps at 1080p with dx11 and max settings, doubtful, but it will be somewhat playable. Gets 35fps on BC2 so expect around 25fps. The 560ti is double the graphical power with 62fps. Honestly, the 460 does a better job than the 550ti for about the same price. The 460 does 45fps in BC2. You can find the 460 between 100-130 right now with the 550ti around 110-130. SLI the 460 and it'll spank everything except the 580 for half the cost. Also, EA should make destroyable mcom's from C4/explosives a server option. That way it would be up to the players choice in rush mode. I don't mind blowing up an mcom in this reguards, but the other two seems interesting. Although the mcom blowing up after killing a def defuse seems like a very annoying new feature...Can't win them all I suppose.[Edited on September 18, 2011 at 2:56 AM. Reason : rush]

well the map pack dlc is included in the preorder because it's reported that the actual standard game that won't include them will go for a cheaper price (50). Think as the preorder as the limited edition version (60). The dlc will be around 10-15.Would be cool if ea gave out the dev tools to make mods/maps for bf3, but I know they wouldn't do that since they didn't do it for bc2.

9/18/2011 1:46:17 PM
that's true, the alpha didn't really stress the FB2 engine, but I was just going off personal experience. I did not read/see the developers talks and was hoping that the performance hit was just conjecture. Then again, I didn't record the frames on my friends system and he got playable frames on his one 5870 with max setting.
