Well that sucked, Sullinger came out and said hes coming back next year. So thats good news.
3/26/2011 9:06:06 AM
I hope he does, because he was fun to watch... but you have to take a statement like that after an emotional loss with a grain of salt.
3/26/2011 9:06:52 AM
Oh I wouldnt be too surprised if he did leave, but his quote is pretty definitive
3/26/2011 10:20:56 AM
so...will Tressel ever coach a game at Ohio State again?
4/25/2011 3:48:27 PM

while I know there is going to be plenty of scrutiny and punishment coming Tressel's way, and that he did break some rules, I feel like this whole situation is really overblown. Admittedly, I havent paid a whole lot of attention to the details of the investigation, and I'm inherently going to be biased towards OSU, so take it with a grain of salt. Like I said earlier in this thread, thank God Tressel never received any emails from a Nigerian prince, he might be kicked out of the countryI just wonder why the guy who emailed Tressel didnt email OSU's compliance department, or athletic director, or someone else besides the coach. I have to think that Tressel gets tons of emails daily, and already has other stuff on his plate. I just wonder why I would do if I was in his situation, would I run and tell my boss something that could turn out to be nothing but a rumor, or would I wait for an actual investigation to take place and run its course? The main thing that pisses me off is that if Pryor, Herron, et al. didnt sell their memorabilia, none of this would be an issue. Or better yet, if that stupid NCAA rule prohibiting players from selling their own personal property, there wouldnt be any sanctions or suspensions at all. Either way, I do acknowledge that Tressel shouldve at least told his AD as soon as he received the email, and he definitely shouldnt have told the NCAA that he had no knowledge of the incident (if that actually happened). I do wonder what will come out of all of this, I know the university has been standing behind Tressel thus far, but I wouldnt be at all surprised if they cut ties with him just to get the media, fans and NCAA off of their backs. It sucks for Coach Tressel, I do think he's a good guy and was probably trying to protect his players, but when you are under the watchful eye of the NCAA you cant operate under the same rules that the normal population does.

Give em the death penalty.Fuck tOSU and their TWW bandwagoners. Between them and Michigan, this place is nuts.
4/25/2011 11:42:12 PM
the amount of heat coming down on Tressel almost mandates that Ohio St. go in another directionhis continued presence with all this shit flying will scare off recruits. why go there when you don't know if A) he will be your coach all 4 years or B) you will suffer for his transgressions in the form of postseason bans while at OSU?
4/25/2011 11:43:36 PM
^unc isn't having any problems recruiting and they aren't even 1/10 as relevant as ohio state.

the "news" yesterday was little more than a re-hashing of what came out 6 weeks ago. My opinions from then still stand. I don't think ESPN has an agenda to attack OSU the way a bunch of OSU honks do, but I do feel that if this were an SEC school, they wouldn't put if front and center the way they do. Hell, a $1B contract will do that though. As far as recruiting goes, I don't think this will have that big of an impact. Granted he's not a star, but they just got a 3* WR to commit this morning, and based on quotes from current players, they think far more of Tressel now than they did before this whole story came to light. My biggest issue isn't what he did (contacting Pryor, Pryor's mentor, FBI) as much as what he didn't do. He is contractually obligated to bring ANY sort of info like this to his AD and compliance department, as well as to NOT fucking lie to the NCAA about it. Sure, he may have been trying to protect his players (whether or not that is BS is irrelevant to me), but he has more of a responsibility to his employer than his players.

I dont think the thought crossed his mind that Pryor, Herron, et al might be ruled ineligible due to the whole tattoo parlor thing - and that by allowing them to play the games might have to be forfeited. At least I dont think that he would not play them when an investigation wasnt even taking place at the time the email came throughmaybe he did, maybe he didnt, I dont know what went through the man's head
4/26/2011 1:30:31 PM
if you know it's worth hiding from your employer, you know it's a big enough deal to land you in a shitstorm.

let it be known that I think Tressel needs to be shown the door. This new shit coming out about dozens of current and former players all getting cars from the same salesman doesn't look good. Granted, this is more of a compliance dept. issue than something Tressel has/had full control over, but it's still under his watch.
5/7/2011 4:26:02 PM
More of the same stuff from his youngstown days. The rumors about cars has been floating around at OSU for about a decade, really almost as soon as Tressel got there.Ray Small says whattup.
5/26/2011 10:31:06 PM
I heard stories from my uncle about Clarett coming to his Lexus dealership and "test driving" cars for weekends at a time. Shit like this goes on at a lot of places though. My cousin was at Miami in '01 and said the number of escalades on campus skyrocketed the month after they won the NC.
5/27/2011 10:06:46 AM
this is not going to end well
5/27/2011 10:12:27 AM
Happens everywhere but it is a problem when it becomes as systemic as it appears to be at Ohio State.
5/27/2011 11:20:28 AM
They should fire Tressel to lessen the blow. I mean, I think he's going to end up losing his job anyways...might as well get it out of the way and get a year less probation and save a few scholarships.
5/27/2011 11:22:16 AM
they're not going to fire Tressel just to do it, the AD made it very clear throughout this process that the university is standing behind him.
5/27/2011 11:26:49 AM
5/27/2011 11:28:11 AM
I meant I heard about them when they were happening.
5/27/2011 11:42:47 AM
whats this I hear about Troy Smith and others shaving points?
5/27/2011 12:11:41 PM
Tressel is cooked ar this point, IMO. I don't think you can tarnish the university's rep as much as he has, bring down NCAA punishment (very probable), and lie to the public without major consequences. OSU has to choose between themselves and Tressel. Firing Tressel may soften the punishment significantly.
5/27/2011 4:21:11 PM
whether or not they shit-can him before this season, I wouldn't be surprised to see him gone before the 2012 season.[Edited on May 27, 2011 at 4:46 PM. Reason : .]
