That's not an apt analogy.

More like the fastest person on one leg.

Duh guys I know it is not coming to the us, it hasn't for a long time. It has been a Europe only car for a while. I think the type r is also in Canada, but it is the North American civic, not the European civic.

Here is another nice hondurr not coming the us. At least I like it.

Only VW/Audi and Toyota/Subaru are using it. It costs extra money, so don't expect it to be popular unless it's cheaper than some other alternative.

I really hope this is a joke:

"SCOOP: HONDA WORKING ON RWD COMPACT SPORTS CAR

With a long-standing tradition of building compact, open-top sports cars that started with the S600 and recently ended with the S2000, Honda seems intent to get back into the game. After seeing the success Toyota/Subaru has had with the 86 (Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ), Honda is primed to one-up its rivals. According to a source within Honda, a new affordable sports car is being seriously considered, but don’t expect something as high-end as the S2000…think small, quick and light. Here’s what we learned:

Many Honda engineers and executives believe that they were beat to the punch when Toyota/Subaru introduced its affordable rear-drive sports offering. And now that they know the market is hungry again for exciting affordable sports cars, a new “S1500” is on the drawing board within the walls of the company’s Tokyo headquarters. The car would be small, probably even smaller than the Mazda MX-5, and come equipped with either a 1.3-liter or 1.5-liter inline-4 with i-VTEC. If the latter, it could well be the current engine under the Fit’s hood that can produce up to 132 hp. The car would be very light, about 900 kg or right at about 2000 lb., making it very quick and agile. It would of course be rear-drive, and come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Our source says he would like to see the car priced around $20,000. There’s even talk that the “S1500” may come with a mid-engine layout, a la the Honda Beat.

As for the car’s design direction, we hear that Honda would either use the Japan-only N-ONE as the base (as pictured here) or make it look more like the current Civic. We like the N-ONE styling because it pays homage to the S600. Either way, look for Honda to come up with this answer to the Toyota 86 and the Mazda MX-5 in 2015 or 2016."

Overall I think this is a stupid move. And in particular I don't understand the parts I bolded. The above described car would not compete with the FT86 twins. Nor would it "one up them". Nobody would cross shop the two except hardcore autoxers. And while there's a good market for a RWD coupe with a largish trunk (once seats are folded down) there really isn't for a tiny roadster with an tiny trunk. If anyone within Honda actually thinks this would be a smart vehicle to develop...then I just give up.

Not that I looked at the demand research or anything.. but there are definitely more offerings on the market already in the RWD coupe with the largish trunk category than in the lightweight RWD roadster category. Plus, Honda already has a couple of coupes, but no roadster (some customers honestly don't care about the minor FTD/RWD difference thingy). When a customer on a showroom foor expresses interest in one, they have to send them to a used car lot or a Mazda dealership.

So since I posted about the upcoming type R, I still couldn't get over the fact that it will be quicker around the Nurburgring than the NSX-R. Every time my brain is free, I find myself thinking how is that possible. Then today it hit me while driving that the Type R will also have at least as much hp as the NSX, and that's when my face went

Yes, I posted the hp figures the other day, and I know how much hp the NSX had, but for some reason my brain had not till today put it together that the 2 power levels will be approximately identical. For the past couple of days, I found myself asking how a Civic could be as fast as a super car (NSX), and while I know how much hp the NSX had, my brain was actively blocking itself from bringing the NSX hp into the internal brain debate because of my use of the "super car" identifier to describe the NSX, because really, super cars don't have just ~280 hp, not anymore they don't.

Carry on, nothing to see here

The NSX doesn't fit the term "super car" in any way other than crappy rearward visibility. Yeah the engine is in the middle but it's a transverse midship AND couldn't even muster 300hp in the 90s. I do like how they look on the outside though.

Sure, but it put a beating on the contemporary Porsche 911 and Ferrari 348.

2001 Integra Type R with 30k miles, just purchased for $24,100.

https://www.motor1.com/news/143353/honda-civic-type-r-fwd-nurburgring/

New Civic Type-R is the quickest FWD car on the Nurburgring... and it is coming to the US for the first time!!!

2 liter turbo
~$35K
306 hp
295 lb-ft
6-sp manual

Will be on sale within a couple of weeks or so.

This post of mine from 2013 ITT is very apropos now:

message_topic.aspx?topic=609096&page=2#15906019

The time is 7 min 43.8 seconds. In-car footage in link at top.

That makes it up to 8 s quicker -- 14 s quicker than M2 -- than these cars, among dozens of other older sports and super cars:

2009 Audi R8 V10
2005 Pagani Zonda S
1993 Bugatti EB110 SS
2007 MB CLK63 AMG Black Series
2011 MB C63 AMG Coupe Black Series
2001 Porsche 911 GT2
2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera
1991 Jaguar XJ220
2004 Porsche 911 GT3 RS
2009 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
2016 VW Golf GTI Clubsport S <----- previous FWD record holder
2010 BMW M3 GTS
2003 BMW M3 CSL
2015 Honda Civic Type-R <----- previous FWD record holder
2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S
2009 MB SL65 AMG Black Series
2014 BMW M4

And these are under 4 seconds quicker than it:

2010 Nissan GT-R
2005 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06
2009 Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV
2006 Porsche 911 GT3
2015 Porsche Cayman GT4
2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
2011 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
2010 Porsche 911 Turbo S
2010 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera
2010 MB SLS AMG
2009 Porsche 911 GT3 997
2004 MB SLR McLaren
2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640
2005 Bugatti Veyron 16.4

Honda still sucks?

Yeah, they do. That car is huge eye sore. It's like they took the Evo IX boyracer look and cranked the knob up to 11. I'd be embarrassed to drive one.

In the real world with the same driver on the same day most of the above listed cars would mop the floor with this one.

It reminds me of those chunky WRX/STI's. Unfortunately, Civic Type ARRR doesn't have the AWD system those porky lamb chops do.

In the photos those are Continental SportContact 6's, so far as I can tell. Similar to Michelin PS4's, and certainly fit the above description.

it looks pretty good in the first shot. but then the shot of the rear? Holy shit, that's gotta be the most ugly/obnoxious rear end I've ever seen. Honda should be embarrassed.

See, the sedan and coupe can be had in the 205 hp Si version, but if you want the 306 hp R, that's only available in the hatchback with BIG ASS.

I wish the coupe was also available as an R, then it would look way better.

The front end would actually be somewhat respectable looking if one didn't have the knowledge that the 2 big air vents were actually fake.
