The gf and I are without insurance, I make around 25k a year. Birth control pills are ~$25 out of pocket at RiteAid which we alternate months who pays. How is that expensive?
1/3/2011 10:50:44 PM
That's not expensive, no argument there. If it was a pill for me than I would do it, but I am not the one taking them.I am a chemist, and BC pills for men is something that is an active area of study (so I have heard).

I think all your talk about people being spoiled was so troubling because you seem to be the spoiled one.People who actually grew up without a lot of means would never need to make this thread because they'd already know what happens if you get pregnant without insurance--in their lives, they would have probably seen it happen to their mother, their sister, their neighbor, their brother's girlfriend, their best friend's mom, or somebody! It's like you're a super sheltered, spoiled rich kid who wants to know if working class people are getting some sort of sweet deal--they're not--or if being purposefully poor so you can qualify for Medicaid/some program is a good idea--it isn't!Aren't you a graduate student?

Only 3 a day? Do they want us to have kids or what?????
1/4/2011 8:33:08 AM
Abstinence. You really should have listened to all the great sex-ed education they have in schools. The programs seem to be working with everybody else in the country, what's your problem?

For the rest of the world's sake, please don't procreate. Jesus the stupidity

congratulations!

Condoms are cheap online, and compared to the cost of spawn it's worth getting them AND the pill. If you do it twice a day it'll cost you about $60 a month for both, way cheaper than a kid.
1/4/2011 9:38:39 AM
I'm truly baffled that someone can have a degree, access to the internet, and is apparently literate yet still needed to start a thread for this. Bag it before you tag it. Get her the pill. Stop tagging it. Help pay her pay for insurance, etc.
1/4/2011 9:46:25 AM
^^You can get condoms free at the health clinic.

^^^ ordering enough to last several months online is easier, especially if you are no longer a student. Also, I HATE that I can no longer decline preggo coverage on health insurance. I can't have and don't want spawn and should not have to pay for other people to have them just because I am female.
1/4/2011 11:08:20 AM
^ Wow. That's messed up that you can't decline. What a load of croc.
1/4/2011 11:19:36 AM
^^I've got news for you: EVERYONE (male or female) pays for other people's kids one way or another, get used to it.[Edited on January 4, 2011 at 11:21 AM. Reason : f]

You can get high-deductible ($2500/yr) health insurance for $50/month to avoid going bankrupt at least.
1/4/2011 11:46:50 AM
abortion?
1/4/2011 12:01:41 PM
^^^ It was part of Obamacare. Just looked at BCBS rates and I guess it's going to be implemented later. Maternity coverage almost doubles the price of health insurance for women (which is still almost double what men pay) so I hope it never happens. If she won't get an abortion, look forward to an extra $200 a month in health insurance for the girlfriend in case you knock her up!

1/4/2011 2:10:57 PM
^^It's been several years since I paid out of pocket but it was only $110 / mo from bcbs. If you think it's such a racket then why did you continue to pay for it? It comes in pretty handy during infrequent major medical operations which one would not expect to have every two years.^Agreed[Edited on January 4, 2011 at 2:13 PM. Reason : ^]

I'm trying very hard to avoid that assumption. Its not about rich people so much as it is the mid class that are in a position to get insurance through jobs or parents or whatever, and then not being sympathetic to those that don't have access to insurance.I have insurance through my job.

There is temporary healthcare for 6 months that you can get for about $400 (all upfront)My girlfriend just got a retail job and she is going to get insurance through it. She just left a restaurant job where she had insurance. Do some research. Also, look up "living within your means" and gtfo with that "oh noes I can't afford all my bills" shit
