great, a larger venue for NCSU to display annoying commercials when the band should be playing.

Private funding or not, you know the marketing dept is using the new scoreboard as a selling point to sell more ads during game time....

I agree, although it doesn't look like it's going to sit flush it def needs some molding or finishing touches so it doesn't look half-assed

They might add molding or something around the edge of the scoreboard when they replace the block S at the top to the correct version.

personally, i think we should be spending our money on paying for better players rather than facilities

What was wrong with that statement? I say a lot of controversial things but am having a problem seeing how that could have offended anyone.

I wouldn't say offensive, just fucking dumb. Unless you consider a gym a football indoor practice facility.

What fucking high schools have legit indoor practice facilities for football?

Not in North Carolina but in places where football is big, indoor facilities are quite common. The high school I teach at has a 50 yard indoor practice field and our school is considered a small, poor school.

http://forums.5atexasfootball.com/showthread.php?t=14116
User compiled list from 2006.

Highland Park in Dallas has an NFL quality one they built for 4.5 million. The Packers used it for the superbowl.

These things are becoming very common in the South because they are also used for soccer, band, cheerleading and other outdoor events that need to be held indoors.

Point is, it shouldn't be hard for a high major/acc school to get something that hundreds of high schools have and is pretty important unless you're out in California.

^Texas, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee all have some mega football schools.

[Edited on July 2, 2011 at 11:10 PM. Reason : high schoolfootball is not important in north carolina. ]

[Edited on July 2, 2011 at 11:11 PM. Reason : is college?]

When football was up at weiseger-brown they would do SOME stuff inside, but that was only if there was lightning out or something. Otherwise it was pretty much practice as normal. Monday night practices were sometimes cold as fuck.

I have a hard time believing that 4.5 gets you "nfl quality" (there is a big difference between nice indoor facility and NFL quality) especially with estimates for NCSU's future facility nearer to 12-16 million. Thats a lot of cabbage to spend, and with CF not being around campus its more difficult for band, track, etc. to use the facility. It will happen, just might be a few years with some debt paydown before we stretch the budget again.

If the statement, "the packers used it for the superbowl" is assumed to be correct, then the facility is definitely NFL quality. end of argument.

The Packers used it for practice for the Super Bowl, because it was tits cold in Dallas that week. They were supposed to practice at SMU.

SMU didn't have an indoor facility, and the Dallas Cowboys don't have an indoor facility.

In this case, NFL quality means it was NFL practice quality.

This

Just because they used it for a practice or two because it was the best option w/in a 1 hour radius doesn't mean its "NFL Quality", just "NFL sufficient for practice"

The Panthers use Wofford's fields for summer camp. That doesn't mean that it's as good as their field, just that they need to get away from the distractions of home. A field is a field, and the teams don't care about how nice the facility is provided it's well kept (i.e. not muddy, no holes, level, etc.). TOB has stated that even if we had an indoor practice facility we would only use it at most 2-3 times a year, b/c he likes to have the players used to practicing in the weather, whether that means it's 90 degrees outside with 75% humidity or 26 degrees and an 18 degree wind chill factor. There aren't any domes in the ACC so might as well get used to having the weather be a factor in the game. The main reason to have an indoor facility is to still be able to hold practice when the conditions wouldn't allow it, as in lightning storms, dangerously extreme heat, etc.

I would guess with rain/lightning, etc. they would have full practices in there 3-5 times a year. Also, players could use it for field training, individual workouts, 7-7 passing drills/skeletons, etc. You could have nfl workouts there, it would be great for summer camps, and overall it just looks bad ass for recruiting.

But yeah ^ as far as full on NCSU practices, we probably would use this under 5 times a year.

All of that is true for our current outdoor practice fields.

What do you want from me? If they have 3D they can actually stand out since they are not a pro quality level team. I proposed that they do 3d instadium brodcasts of all the away games with the cheerleaders and loud music, 3D graphics coming out of the screen, wolves in the stadium (3 fake wolves), and all that.

Imagine your in the stadium waiting for teh game. A rockin song hits and the wolf macsot comes on the screen. "PUMP IT UP!" it yells and raises the roof. Smoke fills the stadium. You see 3D graphics of big hits and blocks and jams and TD filling the stadium. The lights go red. Then black. Lights on on the away team, and a 3D wolfpack runs out of the 3D screen at them, screaming and howling and then BOOM, here comes the team.

Right now they just have that stupid dog on the sidelines and fireworks, like the state fair or something. its stupid.

[Edited on July 8, 2011 at 3:15 PM. Reason : why dont they do a 3D wolf and not that dog from someones back yard?]
