Yeah, I just can't buy it. I believe in equal rights and liberty, but I don't even think trans belongs in the same category as sexuality. Bisexuality occurs frequently in nature, and there's no reason to believe that it is abnormal at all. It seems to be largely cultural. In nature, though, animals don't chop off their sex organs and recreate a new one surgically. Okay, so you feel like the opposite sex in your mind. Do whatever you want to your body. I'm not going to pretend that it isn't weird, though.

I think this is a matter of sentience. Without self-awareness, there's no real way to question one's gender identity.

This guy never felt right in his own skin; he would surreptitiously wear women's clothing as a teenager and later as a successful businessman, and he thought a happy marriage and children would make him feel comfortable as a man, but although he did manly things around the house the feelings remained and he went through two marriages, and was shunned by his adult children, before finally accepting what he felt inside...

...and after transition, Theresa Sparks began a new life in San Francisco, where she rose through the depths of transmisogyny to become a CEO, and then the president of the police commission, and soon possibly the first transgender member of the Board of Supervisors.

truly a tale of tragedy and triumph for a transwoman: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130703278

OK, it's late and I didn't really read the thread

but what exactly are you? an asexual male?

Like, you don't want to put your weiner in anything?

or are you somehow a hetero-asexual...like, you are attracted to women, but you have no desire to have sex with them?

^^^in the post right above yours I came out as bi
I should mention though that I'm still scared of sticking my weiner in the bun-hole because it is rather plump (over an inch bigger around than average, thicker than 95% of hot-dongs) and I'd rather not spread runny ketchup cause bleeding in an area that would later come into contact with spoiled chili feces. (OK seriously, "weiner" is fucking immature.)
Instead it's more like I jerk off to videos of guys a substantial minority of the time, and I have gone so far as to seek out more material of a certain performer, much like with videos of chicks; I won't get into the details but suffice it to say that much like with straight fap material I'm not into anything hardcore or perverted and I'm far from indiscriminate.

Also I'm not "hetero-asexual" (the proper term is "asexual heteroromantic"; seriously AVEN thinks up some crazy shit), I actually do desire to have sex with women...and haven't yet

^^you must know only the images of gays in the media
and it's not bias against gays so much as sensationalism, like if all I knew about relationships came from the movies and TV I'd think everything was too shallow and physical in heterosexual relationships

actually, I'm talking from a lot of real life experience. I'm bi and my brother is a gay. I've never been able to find the right chick for a real relationship and its pretty depressing to read lesbian personals. everyone is searching for someone super femme or super butch and slim with big breasts and its pretty discouraging to shy average girls. My brother is a romantic and he keeps getting played by guys that only want to get involved with him physically or psychologically abuse him. even the older gay guys I know have had trouble maintaining long-term relationships. its a lot more convenient to be straight-ish if opportunities present themselves, especially if you are looking for something emotionally meaningful.

I can only speak to my own experience, but I've been in a monogamous relationship for nearly 8 years now (married for nearly 2 of them come March). Relationships aren't always easy to being with anti-gay laws like DOMA, and anti-gay sentiments out there, certainly put more pressure on them. So I think that if that if your statement is true (which I haven't experienced) that there are explanations for those extra pressures.

Might as well share these LGBT voting guides.

Mecklenburg:
http://meckpac.org/component/content/article/36-news/58-voter-guide.html

Statewide:
http://equalitync.org/pac/2010g

Nationwide:
http://www.hrc.org/scorecard/

With all the bullying related suicides in the news lately, its worth noting that NC passed an anti-bullying bill that covers all kids (specifically mentioned sexual orientation & gender identity). I mention it only b/c it & the comprehensive sex ed law in NC were both unanimously opposed by the GOP (in at least 1 if not both houses I believe), and because the NC State Senate is the deciding factor on whether or not these get repealed & whether or not a marriage discrimination constitutional amendment comes to pass in NC. The State Senate is in many ways the most important race in NC in terms of not allowing hyper social conservatism to take over. Losing the house wont matter b/c the dems there are weak willed & many of them are social conservatives themselves. It all rides on which party controls the state senate.

"I Oppose NC Senate Bill 272 - Defense of Marriage"
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/group.php?gid=59688064076
"6,671 members"

Senator Forrester is the chief proponent of wasting government time/money on amending our state constitution to be redundant with our law that's already on the books against marriage equality. If his party takes the state senate, that's it. As much as I like Marshall's anti-DOMA, anti-DADT stance, I think the state senate is an even more important race than US senate in this case.

More voting guides for various issues here (not suggesting being a 1 issue voter, but figured these guides might be of interest here):

jeebus, this thread is retarded

it's simple:
- i don't care what you're attracted to (even if it's children or goats...you can't help what you're ATTRACTED to)
- i don't care what you have sex with (as long as it's 100% consensual and the object of your humping is old enough and mentally capable of consenting)
- i don't care if you're attracted to me (i'm not one of those "it's okay if you're gay, but don't be getting close to me!" folks...in most cases, it's flattering)

you don't deserve any more or less respect than i do for being heterosexual...i recognize that you currently do not receive that respect, by and large, and so you have my full support in your efforts to increase awareness...but it gets on my nerves when it's pushed in my face with terms like "cisgendered"...that's stupid

also, by "you" in this post, i mean the global "you," not any person in particular

^^^ concur.

anyone who seriously uses "cisgendered" in normal conversation, probably needs to be slapped.

but one exception: adults being attracted to young children (sexually) is not okay in any circumstance. they need to either get help or get locked up.

and as for lewisje's nearly incoherent "confession", i couldn't hardly understand a damn word of what he was rambling. other than he's apparently proud of his plump little pecker.

^^I'm not exactly that good at getting to do it, and I used to have epic e-whinefests about still being a virgin, starting when I started posting heavily on THW after my first semester of college (I registered just over 7 years ago but didn't really get into the swing of things until January 2004).

^I won't get into more details, but the only standard by which it can be said to be little is pornography, and by that standard about 4 out of 5 guys don't measure up.

Also I agree, pedophilia is sick, and child sexual exploitation (basically, acting on pedophilia) is an abomination; so is bestiality, it's only normal IMO to desire sex with sexually developed human beings.

Sex charges have been filed against two men posing as women at a fancy hotel and the investigation may get bigger.

Quinton Harris is charged with rape and Frederick Lamar has been charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

According to a police report, a kid thought he was meeting a girl whom he met on Facebook, at the ritzy Inter-Continental hotel by the Cleveland Clinic.

Instead, police say the perverts who passed themselves off as women, where there waiting for him.

The freaks even sent a limo to pick him up.

After meeting, the boy thought they were two girls and police say once they started having sex it became clear the she's, were he's.

Sex crimes investigators are now wondering what else those two bosom buddies have been doing.

If you've had any shady dealings with them call the Cleveland Sex Crimes Unit at 216-623-5630.

In Setting Them Straight, a 1996 book about talking back to bigotry and homophobia by the openly lesbian Betty Berzon, PhD, a humorous tale of stereotypes gone wrong is related on page 37: http://www.amazon.com/Setting-Them-Straight-Something-Homophobia/dp/0452274214
Quote :
"Two gay men were having dinner. One was telling the other about a date he'd had with another man, going into some detail. Two straight men at the next table overheard this conversation and one then said loudly to the other, "Hey, you want some fruit salad?" And the other replied, mockingly, "Oh no, I can't eat a thing. My wrist is just too limp!"

One of the gay men rose, walked over to the straights, and placed his hands flat on the table. He was tall and broad shouldered and muscled. He said calmly, "Do you have a problem with me, because if you have a problem with me we can go outside and talk about it."

"No harm meant, no harm meant," the straight man said, nervously eyeing the physique of the man towering over him.

So much for correcting the record on limp wrists. Obviously this is not a tack for most of us to take, but any time we don't sit still for derogatory stereotyping we are challenging homophobia with the truth, and that is always a point in our favor."
Even Mike Alvear knows that not all gay men need a wrist-bone implant: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-alvear/is-effeminacy-a-choice_b_195671.html

Johnny Fesenko, 42, a computer programmer in San Francisco, said that contrary to popular belief and jokes about male fantasies involving threesomes, living as a bisexual can sometimes feel like the worst of all worlds instead of the best of both. Gay friends and potential partners tell him his interest in women is just a phase. He's had straight women refuse to date him because he's not "a real man." He once was punched in the face while walking with a boyfriend in Manhattan, he said.

"It's almost like being called an atheist — you would rather call yourself agnostic because there is such a stigma associated with it," Fesenko said.
