i guess i'm gonna try it a second time but def get something different than what i got the first time. if i'm not wowed this time then i prob won't go back.

dumplings were definitely good.

pho wasn't gross but it wasn't good either. it was just kinda there. and bland. even with the sauces and pepper mixed in. *SHRUG*

just got back

had the half-fried and the open top dumplings. both were fucking incredible. wonton soup was pretty good, i always love when they give you the crispy noodles to put in. finished off with the singapore rice stick noodles with beef.

overall verdict:

OM NOM NOM NOM

^I actually always liked the food there, but service was abysmal

I went for lunch the other day, and I was underwhelmed. Admittedly, I'm a smoker, and my food has really got to bring it in order to rock these taste buds, but still...

I got the beef in black bean sauce, and it was very much lacking in taste. I like soy sauce/sugar/oil as much as the next guy, but I also need some garlic, ginger, curry, pepper, coriander, chili powder, whatever will make it taste...

Dumplings were good though.

Went the other day for lunch and got takeout.

I ordered David's Dumplings and an order of Edamame. Food came out within 6 minutes and the lady was super nice on the register.

Dumplings were good and the edamame made an excellent on the go snack.

Finally made my way over there for dinner last night!

Our appetizer was the half open dumplings and for my entree I had the singapore stick rice noodles with beef. The food was fantastic but the portion size was lacking. The instant my food came out I said to myself "not a chance that's enough food". I was left hungry, and was disappointed by that.

It's nice if a restaurant has reasonably priced meals, but that is nullified by the fact that I need to eat two entrees of that size to be full. I'll definitely go back in the future b/c I enjoyed the food but will be certain to order two entrees for myself. So whatever draw this place had for a "reasonably" priced menu is gone in my eyes.

I think it also depends on what you order

i've been there 5 times now, and 2 of those times I cleared my plates, and the other times, I had left overs

like the shrimp rangoon- it is amazing, but you only get a few pieces and it costs like 6 or 7 bucks. Some of the other dumplings are more bang for the buck. I always get a salad or soup too, so that helps...

Perhaps. $5.50 for 4 dumplings (appetizer) seems kinda pricey given the quantity.

I like supporting Hillsborough St establishments and liked the food so I'll definitely go back. Lemme know the next time you head over there*

Thanks for dinner, TWW
Master_Yoda saw the thread and decided to get take out for me while I was working on a project.

We had pad thai, spring rolls, and homestyle tofu... I'm a sucker for the sauce they use with most tofu & vegetable dishes.
I looked at the lunch menu... does it entertain anyone else that a lot of the items come with iced tea?

i went back again and had hunan chicken. it was good. i mean...it wasn't amazing, and i wasn't like "OMG THIS IS THE BEST MEAL." it was just fine, edible, good price for lunch so i'll def hit it up for lunch again. but i'm still not super wowed by the food. it just seems pretty ordinary. at least it is consistent and good enough to eat again though. prob won't eat dinner there again though.

yep!! i get 30-40 mins for lunch and i've gone for lunch and been fine. heard a few stories of horrible service there though, so watch out. last time our waitress was not very attentive and we would have been done quicker if she had been on the ball (still done in under 45mins though). but the food came out super fast (before she even brought us our drinks )

It's gotta be...how long does it take to make some noodles. I'm going to try this place out. I'm into real chewy, meaty noodles...DO THEY HAVE THESE??

[Edited on November 12, 2010 at 11:29 PM. Reason : maybe chewy isnt the right word, just meaty]

D&D had always been the weak link in the empire eats chain. The guy they brought in after Mao left apparently wanted to change everything and that didn't help anything. It was only a matter of time, and I'm honestly surprised it took this long for that place to go under

Duck & Dumpling is apparently going to turn into a cheaper, more accessible Thai restaurant. (according to someone who worked there)
