thanks. i'm hoping it's something easily resolved, like a dental or worms, but if not, I may have a difficult decision to make, since I'm not bringing in the kind of money i was when i took her in. being over weight and all could mean diabetes, and i'm not in a position to be dealing with long term problems. i wish i still worked at the vet.

My cat has taken to sleeping on top of my bookcase, which is fine, except she makes a ridiculous amount of noise when she's jumping down from there

aha so true. Brown Cat used to play fetch as a kitten (no lie! Really wish I had taken video of it) and now all she does is terrorize my sister's dog

I feel bad for my sister's dog. All she wants is a friend but for some reason most other dogs are mean to her She gets along famously with my grandmother's poodle but that's about it. All the other dogs just want to kick her ass

^^ poor kitty

my 4 year old kitty is a grouch so she wants nothing to do with my dog. my kitten is cute and her and the dog never snuggle together like i had hoped but they do their back and forth dog/cat playing and are buddies. but not snuggle buddies. i think its so cute when other cat/dog pairs do that but no such luck with mine. my 4 year old cat doesn't like my almost 1 year old cat at all. she just likes me.

my baby cat likes my dog (most of the time) and all other cats. i feel bad for her. i got her to give my cat a friend and that backfired. but THEN i got my boyfriend's cat to live with me and baby kitty and bfs cat are bff. then grouch cat can do what she wants and the dog just acts like an idiot, as usual

^ lol awwwwww!!!! he has ears like my doggy.

but only 2 are actually mine! the other one was visiting cause my bf can't have cats in his current place

but now it lives with his parents and that is where my baby kitty lives too since they are bffs and my dad wouldn't let 3 cats and a dog stay at our house, lolz.

so i just have grouch cat and dog now until i move out. whenever that is.

although i DID see the cutest darn kitten at the frat ct soccer fields today. i wanted to pick it up and take it home

Man, I couldn't live with 4 cats. Between all the hair and litter box duties and hairball puking and whatever else it'd drive me mad. Even my 2 cats are pushing my limits lol.

can dogs have asthma?

my dog does that "reverse sneeze" (or whatever it is called) snorting thing where she can't seem to catch her breath like at least once a day. i don't get it.

^^ she's always kinda done it. i remember when i first got her in nov i was like "what the hell?" and when i googled it i found something about "reverse sneezing." but she'll run around real fast or eat super fast and then just start snorting for a few seconds like she can't catch her breath. she is odd. i just don't know if it is something i should be worried about.

My dog Buster always had that. It's really nothing...it looks bad, but the vet told us that he's fine.

prob: kitty hates covered litter boxes and will poop right outside of them

prob: doggy eats out of uncovered kitty litter box and it is fucking disgusting

Solution; put uncovered litter box in closet or small room. Put a baby gate (wooden cheapo one) in front of entrance. Cat climbs/jumps over. Dog stays

I used to do this. Even the kittens learned how to do it and my dog no longer had nommy cat shit for breakfast.

hahahaha that is a good idea. i DID have it in my closet in my room but i couldn't handle the middle of the night stinky ass cat poops that would wake me up cause they smelled so bad

i will just put it in the guest room with the door cracked so the dog can't get in but the kitty can. i ahve a baby gate too if that fails but the door crack thing usually keeps my dog out (with a trashcan or something behind it). she isn't that smart.

its so fucking gross. she just breathed in my face and smelled like litter box

i almost barfed haha

i think my fat cat doesn't like covered liter boxes cause she is sort of larger and they are not roomy enough for her

I adopted a dog last month. Took her to the vet and found out she has heartworms.

Goodbye, money I don't have.

What are the odds she's gonna die during treatment? The doctor said they caught it early so I guess that's good.

I saw quite a few recover from heartworms when I worked at a vet, and in the three years I was there I didn't see one die. Good luck!

how do you make your dog calm down?

if she's exercised today
been fed
played with
pet
gone out for the night
etc

and still hyper...how do you calm them? she doesn't have a crate so i can't put her in there. if i lock her in a room, she'll just bark and destroy shit. but unless i give her a bone or a kong (which i feel like is kinda rewarding bad behavior) she'll just try to nip people and jump on them.

not all the time obviously, but when she's in this mood...the won't settle down for ANYTHING mood.

HALP

reading this thread I am glad I don't have dogs or cats.

I mean birds are enough trouble right now, and I can just lock them in the cage for days.

obedience classes for dogs in the raleigh area. want reviews/experiences. where did you go? cost? did it help your dog?

i really need to get my dog in a class. i need a place that does like the retarded dog obedience. i know some places have puppy classes, but she isn't really a puppy i don't think. i've seen some places that also have the beginners obedience for older dogs (like pound dogs, which is what i have).

i just want really basic stuff. classes that help me teach her how to behave on a leash, LISTEN outside and when she's around other people and dogs, etc. she can already sit and lie down. we haven't moved at ALL past that though, despite my best efforts. so i really want to get her in a class to see if a professional can help her! she also doesn't come when she is called which is a problem.

dog & cat owners: do you take your pets to the vet regularly (for annual or semi annual exams), or only when they are due for shots and when there is a pressing problem (like illness, injury, etc)???

word

just making sure i wasn't weird

i feel like when we had my family do growing up, we'd take her in for "check ups" (like you do with humans). and my vet has been calling being like "mollie is due for her annual physical" and i'm like...yea...i don't feel like spending money on a check up. shots, fine...but wellness exam? no thanks.

i just take them in when they're due for shots/boosters or if they have an issue (like when my dog ripped her nail out or the time she swallowed a bottle of tylenol)

Haha, he is really the easiest dog in the world to live with. Never really does anything wrong besides staring at you. He's just an easy target.

I put that on Pat's Facebook from his phone since he foolishly left it out (yes, we're actually 14 years old here). I'm tired and couldn't think of anything funny to post this time that would get a reaction (such as "I'm engaged!" where he had people calling him from various military missions to confirm)..

Usually in the morning my cat is an annoying asshole. This morning she was MIA. I started to think maybe we accidentally let her out last night Then she appeared out of nowhere just as I was going to start searching the neighborhood for her. Asshole was sleeping under the couch

i have dog training tonight

ugh

it is going to suck balls because my dog is TERRIFIED of the venue, and the circle of dogs, and what we are doing in general. so she acts all frightened and pathetic and doesn't bark/jump/pull/nip or do any of the other behavior that she is in the class for

i mean i work on it at home but its kinda hard for them to give me tips without seeing exactly what she does. ugh.
