maybe hooksaw hasn't been to five points since 2002when bickett was still open and stingray was going strong

It's becoming more and more obvious that you've never actually been to Lilly's
7/12/2010 3:22:54 AM
the clientele is mostly young families and single yuppies
7/12/2010 3:23:16 AM
^^ Shh.^ Then I was at least half right:
7/12/2010 3:25:34 AM
Well in reality, i wouldn't really classify Lilly's staff as hippies either. Maybe one or two of them, but the vast majority are neither hippies or hipsters. They're just restaurant folk. They're just ... different.
7/12/2010 3:26:36 AM
^ He keeps referring to staff--like they're the only ones that matter. I have been referring to the customers.
7/12/2010 3:28:55 AM
1. loves crystal castles2. has a semi-permanent/permanent ironic element in their look3. looks like and/or is addicted to cocaine
7/12/2010 3:29:47 AM
yeah the clientele at Lilly's isn't mostly hipsters or hippes either.vinyl is right about it being mostly young families and yuppies.... oh and high school kids. And i was responding to the assertion that it was run by hippies. I really didn't care who said it, much less that you didn't say it.
7/12/2010 3:31:57 AM
^^ Two-thirds of that sounds like the artsy, progressive types (for lack of a better term) that regularly populate Five Points. Look, folks, I have people who live in Five Points--the White Oak Road area, to be exact--I know it well.^ Um. . .okay.And the topic is best pizza in Raleigh and. . . .[Edited on July 12, 2010 at 3:33 AM. Reason : . . .crickets?]
7/12/2010 3:32:45 AM
then you are not being discriminating enough in your observationsit's like saying there's no difference between motown and stax because they're both soul music
7/12/2010 3:34:08 AM
Yuppies are like the polar opposites of hipsters. "Rich" business-savvy twenty-somethings as opposed to "poor" anti-corporate twenty-somethings.Hipsters tend to oppose convention and what they see as the established order to the point of being ridiculous. Yuppies devote themselves to convention and the established order to the point of being ridiculous. There's more, but those are the basics.
7/12/2010 3:34:59 AM
the topic is best pizza in raleighthe correct answer continues to be frank'sother awesome pizza joints include moonlight, capitol creations, ruckus, and piccolo italia
7/12/2010 3:39:21 AM
^^^ This is not the case at all. You and some others have co-opted a word that has been, as I indicated, in general use since the '30s:hipster
7/12/2010 3:40:32 AM
has it ever occurred to you that with a term as amorphous as hipster and with the culture to which it refers, a dictionary definition is very likely to have been outpaced by reality
7/12/2010 3:43:54 AM
I, too, quote definitions that include the word they are defining.
7/12/2010 3:44:10 AM
- Eastern BBQ- Raleigh > Charlotte- Soccer is a cool sport- Fire TOB- Keep Sid
7/12/2010 3:48:10 AM
Last word on this:^^^ Has it ever occurred to you that your reality or authority doesn't exceed that of the dictionary? ^^ Take it up with Random House.

I'm going to have to try Frank's, though a quick google search shows it to be out on New Bern Ave, which is a place in Raleigh I'd likely never ever be passing through.I used to go to Lilly's a lot since my girlfriend lived right near there and we'd walk down. It was never one of my favorite places, but to each his own.[Edited on July 12, 2010 at 7:57 AM. Reason : x]

That whole "NY and Chicago people are the only ones that know pizza" thing is absolutely absurd. It is an Italian dish, with roots in Greece. If you want large thin crust, then yes, that is typically considered NY style, or if you want deep dish, yes, you would normally order a "chicago style pizza." But to say that you have to be from there to know anything about one of the most popular dishes in the world is just ignorantAs for Lily's- I've actually never had their pizza, but I love their calzonesAnd to whoever had said Vic's- I love their food, but I can't get the pizza there when the pasta dishes are available...[Edited on July 12, 2010 at 8:12 AM. shhheeeeeeettime to call kate and see if she wants frank's for lunch
7/12/2010 8:10:34 AM
I'll go to Lilly's if I'm feeling so contemptuous of myself that I want to waste an extra 45 minutes to an hour of my life waiting inexplicably for my order.
7/12/2010 8:11:39 AM
^we always called in or order, so we would just have to wait ~10 minutes for them to serve it to us
7/12/2010 8:13:08 AM
That's a good strategy, but at this point in my life, I don't feel like I should have to strategize to eat good food at a good price in good time.
7/12/2010 8:14:14 AM
i def. want frank's todayso i will now travel to knightdale to do some yard workand stop there on my way home
7/12/2010 8:15:26 AM
I like Rudino's a lot. Wildflour is probably a close second.and Brooklyn Sal's in Brier Creek.Lily's is good, but not all life changing and shit like people claim.
7/12/2010 8:20:43 AM
i like lilly's and allbut it's third in line for wacky-topping pizza places in the area after pepper's and cap creationsthe fact that cap creations is still in business after all these years at that awful location is a testament to the quality of their work
7/12/2010 8:24:51 AM
oh shit, i forgot about capital creations. I haven't had that in probably 8 years, but that was fantastic pizza.
7/12/2010 8:28:42 AM
The best pizza is the one you make yourself.
7/12/2010 8:29:34 AM
that smiley is sensational
7/12/2010 8:31:55 AM
I miss the Chicken & Liver and Fried Egg pizzas at the Rockwood Filling station in Durham. I've since moved on to the Spicy Hawaiian at Pop's Backdoor. As for Raleigh, I always liked the Five Points at Lilly's and Bella Monica's flatbreads.
7/12/2010 10:17:47 AM
I wish we had a Wolfman's pizza heretheir frozen pizza's just aren't the same as the fresh baked ones
7/12/2010 10:18:34 AM
dont know if its the best, but the biggest slices that I've ever seen in Raleigh are at Schiano's in Leesville Town Center. A slice there is about the size of a medium pizza at one of the chain restaurantsthey have good sauce and sausage as well

I've only seen it in Charlotte... I'll do a little research and see what I can find thoughhttp://www.wolfmanpizza.com/index2.htmlyeah, it seems to be only charlotte... the original location closed down, but they have opened 4 new ones... I loved it- it is their sauce that makes it so good[Edited on July 12, 2010 at 10:37 AM. Reason : venerwigvre]

I must go with the rather uninteresting and generic choice of Mellow MushroomI think the Mellow Mushroom has, in my experience, the best pizza in RaleighI've never been to NY, I've never been to Chicago, I don't careI know what good pizza tastes like
7/12/2010 10:42:52 AM
7/12/2010 10:47:00 AM
Insofar as NY style pizza, I'd say Vincent's is pretty decent (Tony's and Assagio's aren't too shabby either)Gimicky pizza I'd go with Lilly's, and Mellow Mushroom...Magical Mystery Tour FTW
