Amazing movie. If you haven't read the book you better go in with a summary though.

Yeah that's true. It'll be interesting to see what stuff they bother to explain and what they leave out in the second part. I expect the broken glass will get explained at the very least.
11/20/2010 10:40:49 PM
This movie was about as good as you could make it with the material they had.None of the changes they made were absurd or really annoying. They obviously left a ton of explaining out, but it was still very good.I still hope they get more details into the second movie.
11/20/2010 11:29:35 PM
apparently the invisibility cloak isnt worth mentioning
11/20/2010 11:42:01 PM
The visuals they used for the story of the 3 brothers reminded me of the intro to God of War 3.

I just want to say I'm a big Harry Potter fan, I just love the books but the movies are one by one getting suckier and suckier, even so I'll still be one of the first in line to see the last. Here's my review with spoilers:I wasn't impressed with this movie as much as I thought I would be. The acting (Harry, Hermione, and Ron) was absolutely horrible, especially Harry and Ron. When they are arguing in the tent before Ron disapperates there was just no feeling, I didn't even care if Ron left. (while reading the book I cried lol) There is absolutely no chemistry between Ron and Hermione, none. And no chemistry between Harry and Ginny-- but there is definitely chemistry between Harry and Hermione. The landscapes were gorgeous! The visuals of the locket fighting back were awesome, and I just loved loved loved the story-telling of the Three Brothers. But really, the best part was Dobby. Dobby stole the show, hands down. This movie was pretty to look at and had some great parts but in the end the main actors acting ruined it for me.BTW- why didn't they use the cloak? like at all? The movie is called the Deathly Hallows, atleast show the best deathly hallow...

But he opened it by telling it to open in parseltongue, which they didn't mention.[/nerd alert]
11/21/2010 6:06:09 PM
Very tru. Did not think about that. I rationalized it by thinking that he realized the "Bathilda" was speaking parsel tongue and that in a rush of excitement it hit him. Taking alot for granted I know, but I try to think they movies don't have to explain every choice, though that was a big one. III
11/21/2010 6:16:25 PM
While I understand what you're saying, it did just come to him in the book too, it was a sudden realization. And how could you explain that sufficiently in the movie without saying "oh, I all of the sudden know what to do!"
11/21/2010 6:26:48 PM
wasn't the locket Slytherins?
11/21/2010 8:50:14 PM
Yeah, but in the book, they did specifically mention the realization coming to him. I don't know that people who haven't read the books would even think about the fact that he didn't know how to open it before, though.
11/21/2010 9:13:53 PM
like most, i thought they did as good as they could have with the movie for the first half of the book. The 2nd one should be quite epic and i'm realllllly looking forward to it.The Harry/Hermione naked makeout scene was a little much...haha

Just watched the movie tonight. Too much time following the hobbits on their fitness-walking quest to destroy the ring, not enough big battles. I enjoyed the movie though.[Edited on November 22, 2010 at 3:57 AM. Reason : .]
11/22/2010 3:57:04 AM
What big battles? The ones that weren't in the book? You had to know going into the movie that this is the one that would be more story and less action. I'm afraid the second one is going to be too much action and not enough story, but we'll see.
11/22/2010 7:55:20 AM

11/22/2010 3:54:10 PM
what a crap filler movie that was. They spent way too much time following them around the woods, and would waste entire scenes just showing Harry and Hermoine looking upset without any dialogue, when they couldve gone into much more detail into some of the seemingly more important detailsthis movie and the last one both felt like fillers for the final movie/part. This was okay for the last movie, as a build up to this one, but I was expecting a lot more. You could probably skip over this movie completely and just watch the final part of the Deathly Hallows and not feel like you were missing much

BTW,the first 6 are being sold for 40 bucks on Amazonhttp://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Years-Giftset-Blu-ray/dp/B002Q8GKLM/ref=sr_1_2?t=slicinc-20&tag=slicinc-20&s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1290483333&sr=1-2

Just saw it. The nicest thing I can say is that it moved so fast that it genuinely didn't feel like I was watching a 2.5 hour movie. That's pretty rare. And the scenes that were added outside of the book's narrative were some of my favorite. That said, I would have told the story differently, particularly the ending of this part. I would have ended it about five minutes earlier and used that time to do more buildup of the importance of Voldemort's quest.

I'm surprised how little interest TWW has in this thread
11/27/2010 9:49:05 PM
I enjoyed it for what it was. It was definitely flawed, though. This is the first of the movies that does not work as a standalone movie. It starts in the middle of things and ends in the middle of things. Also, you know that they are trying to accomplish a specific goal, but the whole movie feels like they are experiencing a bunch of semi-related events all at the same tension level as opposed to something fully cohesive to builds up and culminates to a true climax. And this movie was painfully boring to watch a second time through.
11/28/2010 1:21:50 PM
This was my favorite of all the Harry Potter movies. I loved that the 3 main kids were the core focus-- not zany Hogwarts professors, villains, or wizardry gags. This was the most emotionally resonant of all the movies, and it was also the most mature and grown-up (without being overly scary or violent like film 5 was). I also liked that you could enjoy this one even if you don't understand the specific magical elements of the Harry Potter world. This installment into the series was oscar caliber to me.

people irritated with the movie mostly following them on the journey must not have read/liked the book. it was pretty true to the book and in it they spent a lot of time traveling and looking for answers
11/28/2010 6:34:06 PM
Yeah, the first half of the last book was terrible.
11/28/2010 6:49:51 PM
didnt read the books, dont intend to read the booksso, just based on solely watching the movies, this one was the worst of them all, imowhat did they accomplish with this movie? we saw them destroy the horcrux, Madeye and Dobby died, and we saw how Voldemort got the Elder Wand, big deal.I guarantee they couldve combined both Deathly Hallows movies into one 3 hour long movie, just cut out the filler.I'm not trying to hate or shit on the movie, I just felt like they were trying to rake in an extra payday with another movie[Edited on November 28, 2010 at 8:05 PM. disagree completely.
11/28/2010 8:03:56 PM
disagree as well
11/28/2010 8:07:34 PM
I didn't like the excuse that Hedwig gave away which Harry was the real one.In the book, Harry used his trademark spell, showing that he has flaws (relies too much on single strategies, doesn't know how to use spells without speaking).
11/28/2010 8:15:25 PM
^^^Disagree. No way this could be 1 movie. They already cut out so much as it is.
11/28/2010 8:57:20 PM
^Yeah I agree with that. Also, I totally liked them breaking the book up into two movies. I read an article where Daniel Radcliff said that the last movie is basically going to be a hardcore action movie.I really loved this movie. I also realized that if you hadn't read the books then there would be quite a few things that you wouldn't like or wouldn't understand. There was a lot of backstory that they couldn't really add to this movie to help you understand the thought process.
11/28/2010 9:02:26 PM
if you didn't read the books then you are not a true harry potter fan!!
11/28/2010 9:40:00 PM
I really liked it. That being said, this was the only book I have read once... I intentionally didn't go back and reread it. I think that was one reason why I was able to enjoy it - because I wasn't critiquing it the entire time and thinking "WTF they cut that out!" or similar things. I was really happy with all the adult actors (for the most part)... It's a good thing they have them in there because Dan Ratcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint really aren't the best actors. :\ I mean, they're not terrible, but they're also no Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Ralph Fiennes, etc.Anyway, there were some things that bothered me. The dancing scene was a little unnecessary imo, and the kiss was fucking awkward. She was an elbow movement away from a nip slip. And the part with Hedwig bothered me because I remember in the book her just falling to the bottom of her cage and it wasn't detailed... NOT CRASHING DOWN THE EARTH! I cried. One thing I have noticed is it seems like most people I know who have read the book thought the woods part went by pretty fast, and the people I know who didn't read it thought the woods part was pretty slow...I, too, disagree with DROD's statement

do you people who disagree with my 'oscar' comment seriously not think that the final installment of harry potter will be nominated for an oscar if not simply for honorary recognition of the entire series? [Edited on November 29, 2010 at 1:10 AM. Reason : f]
11/29/2010 1:09:57 AM
this movie was full of yawns and needed 32% more Dobby.
11/29/2010 4:14:24 AM
More Dobby eh? I wasn't a big fan of the first two HP movies, so Dobby fills the annoying, make it go away cgi creature role - kinda like Jar Jar. It's been so long since I read the book that I don't really remember it all that well. I guess I'll have to watch the movie to see how any HP movie would be better with more Dobby.
11/29/2010 7:38:20 AM
^^^I don't think it has snowball's chance in hell of being nominated for an Oscar other than special effects, sound, etc. As far as "recognition for the series", the series has been too inconsistent in quality for that to matter.I found Dobby's speech annoying (along with the idiots who cheered in the theater during it), and it felt like it was only there so the audience would feel something during the following scene.
