She may be very busy. I can only think of a few coaches who can make an air tight case to keep their jobs.

obligatoryI DIDN'T REALIZE THE AD OFFICE WAS A KITCHENRegardless of cooking duties, I think she will be a great addition. I just hope TOB can get on track this year; another coach replacement and football will be in the shitter for a decade [Edited on June 28, 2010 at 3:47 PM. Reason : lkj]

http://www.technicianonline.com/news/q-a-with-new-ad-debbie-yow-comes-home-1.2277949What do you see as the biggest challenge in your new job?I see a really big fiscal challenge, especially in balancing the budget. I’ve started looking at the budget. We’re doing quite nicely in men’s basketball and football, in terms of the sports being self-supporting. There is work to be done in Olympic sports though. Another challenge will be the culture change. Everyone will have to truly believe that it can be done. There’s a difference in talking the talk and walking the walk. Also, we’re going to have to match the resources to the expectations. There is going to be a high level of expectations, so the resources will have to match that.

^I think you are asking the wrong question. If incentives maxed at 5th-6th place it would be a low bar. As it is, there is a continuum of incentives from average performances to championship performances. I'd look at it more as performance-based pay than "bonuses" (lower base salary plus performance-based triggers). Ask yourself one question: Isn't it better to pay more salary for a 4th, 5th or 6th place finish than 11th or 12th? I personally like seeing a reward for fielding a competitive program over a laughingstock, rather than having no financial difference between finishes if a championship is not won.Obviously championships are the ultimate goal, and the incentives should and do reflect that.
7/1/2010 2:25:31 PM
Still fell 6th place is pretty low. Maybe an incentive for finishing in the top 3rd, nothing for finishing in the middle 3rd, and demerits for finishing in the bottom 3rd.Of course we'd get quality ADs with contracts like that.
7/1/2010 2:29:39 PM
Maybe its already been discussed, but what exactly would she do to get the football/basketball teams turned around that fast? Seems like it would be all on our coaches shoulders, and if she fires them immediately then our program would be shittier anyway for another couple of years. Guess what I'm asking is, what does the AD do besides hire coaches (aka search committee blah blah blah) and wags her finger when they do something wrong with the media?I also wonder what those bonuses are for the head coaches if that's what the AD would get
7/2/2010 6:11:37 AM
O'Brien's bonuses are:-50K each year the NCAA 6-year grad rate is higher than 55%-50K for a non-BCS bowl-100K for playing in the ACC championship game-200K for winning the ACC championship game and/or playing in a BCS game(in addition to the 100K)-50K for winning 5 ACC games, plus 50K for winning the 6th game, plus 50K for winning the 7th game, plus 50K for winning the 8rd game-For the highest ranking in either the USA Today/ESPN/BCS final poll, in the top 5 (200K, next 5 (150K), next five (100K), and next 5 (50K)[Edited on July 2, 2010 at 10:13 AM. Reason : for got add the and/or BCS game]

She mentioned the finances as something she wanted to focus on specifically for the nonrevenue sports. We have a VERY different situation than Maryland, in that we are pretty flush with revenue but operate some of our programs on the cheap. Kind of like the Washington Nationals a year or two ago. It's pretty disconcerting for fans/boosters that we have one of the biggest profit margins (surrounded in the rankings by bigger/more successful football/basketball programs) but don't have the return on investment. What we really need to do is to evaluate where we spend money and increase spending in some areas.
7/2/2010 10:51:32 AM
I know it's an old topic, but there's a lot of debt service on the facilities improvements to pay for. Just like you can't spend a lot of money at Bojangle's because you gotta make a car payment each month.

In my 4.5 years at NCSU(graduated in 2005), I emailed Lee Fowler 4 times, and the one and only time I received a response it was from his god-damn secretary and it was in reference to my family canceling their season tickets b/c of how shitty the game day atmosphere was the last 2 years of Amato's guidance. Dr. Yow is off to a great start, and it says alot to me that she personally took the time to address you and seriously look into the issue you brought up. I was on the fence about renewing my season football tickets this year, but after getting rid of Fowler, and an seeing some of AD Yows' efforts, I believe I will be renewing this year. Im starting to think she is/was the "right" person for the job!
7/16/2010 3:18:12 PM
So glad to see Yow winning over the lunatic fringe
7/17/2010 12:20:01 AM
I feel sorry for Mike Archer if this season goes to shit. With Fowlup gone he will witness the firepower of this fully ARMED and OPERATIONAL battle station lunatic fringe.
7/17/2010 7:54:43 AM
I emailed her about having a dog/wolf mascot. She loved the idea and said she would look into it.
7/17/2010 8:39:50 AM
I emailed her about getting a hydraulic lift installed at the 50 yard line so the team could come up from under the field at the start of the game in formation and run a bad ass play

7/17/2010 8:40:15 PM

7/17/2010 8:42:03 PM
I'm going to email her and ask that she get rid of the microphone guy in front of the student section at fb games. What's his name again? NOTHING infuriates me more than that guy at games.
7/17/2010 10:53:47 PM
7/17/2010 11:02:17 PM
why should it
7/18/2010 1:12:47 AM
in fowler's defense, he probably didn't know how to work his email.

It is really bad.
7/18/2010 11:59:02 AM
Yeah, id have to agree for my season tickets last year my seats were under the huge scoreboard and I could hear the guy's off timed chants on our side, adn they were so iritating when your trying to follow a call or a review of instant replay on the big score board...the guy's just anoying. Leave the cheering to the marching band folks, the NCSU student section, fans and alums, and the cheer leaders...no random "joe from the country" inspirational folks needed at home football or basketball games!
7/18/2010 12:24:22 PM
7/18/2010 2:29:33 PM
that should be an indicator that you are in the wrong, sir.
