http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/1812377157.htmlAnyone think that might be a cheap fix? Harmonic balancers are showing up for like $40 online. I figure a total of $200 for the total repair bill. That seems like a good overall price if the rest of the vehicle is in good condition.EDIT: And then there's this:http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/1813757616.htmlLooks like it could be good if that's not an expensive fix.[Edited on June 28, 2010 at 10:12 AM. should be pretty easy to put 90ftlbs on the bolt. i have a tool that you can use to hold it in place. you dont want to spin a civic engine of that era clockwise tightening it. i might actually have a spare pulley in my garage for that year civic.

I called a mechanic who told me to run far, far away from that Civic. He said it could have caused a lot more internal damage and it may need a new engine. As far as the Jetta, it looks like it may be around a $160-$300 fix. I just don't know about that one.

One of my housemates bought a Civic from that era with about the same miles and no apparent issues for $1400 just a couple of months ago. I think he got a really good deal, but knowing that such deals are out there I don't think I'd mess with anything that doesn't already run properly. As an added bonus his is not purple.

The dealer who is selling that civic I linked on the last page will not budge on the price, and it's ridiculous.Clean retail for a 1998 Civic DX with 127k miles is $4075. He's selling it for $3950, and it's definitely not close to perfect at all.Oh well, his loss.

WHY DIDNT YOU TELL MEEEEEEEEEE
6/30/2010 2:03:35 PM
eh i had been looking for months to find one that cheap and got lucky. a honda shop told the previous owner that the valves were bent so it needed a ton of work--turns out no valves were bent and just a new timing belt fixed it

Make sure to put the wing on the hood. That way you add downforce to the drive wheels. The same concept can be applied if you reverse the wing on the trunk. By lifting the back end, you'll force more weight on the front end, pushing it down. This will also prolong the life of your rear tires by reducing the wear on them, reduce rolling resistance thus improving fuel mileage, and improvise as a rear luggage rack in case the rear seats and trunk are not enough for your belongings.[Edited on June 30, 2010 at 4:32 PM.
