Purcell ($344,000) is making a lot more in his current position than Lee is ($280,000) as AD anyway.[Edited on May 5, 2010 at 7:18 PM. Reason : a]

none of those are very appealingfuck a guy's State connections if he doesn't have the resume for the job
5/6/2010 8:30:28 AM
i agree...i personally don't care where the person went to school as long as they have a proven track record
5/6/2010 8:32:29 AM
http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/05/06/469456/wolfpack-club-boss-wants-to-be.html"I'm absolutely interested in the job," Purcell said. "It's something I've tried to prepare myself for my entire career, and I certainly hope I have the opportunity."
5/6/2010 8:54:49 AM
sounds good to me
5/6/2010 8:56:41 AM
....Wendell Murphy....he already runs the show anyways
5/6/2010 9:10:41 AM
^^^ Sports radio raised an interesting point about him. They were talking about how he knows everyone and is such a great fundraiser that he would have a lot of big money people "to pay back" by calling in favors on him, and he would have a tough time doing all of it. That would lead to some animosity and anger after he doesn't comply with the requests of the same folks he spent years buttering up.I'd personally be happy with the move, but there are so many people that are equally qualified and he is such a ridiculous fundraiser that staying head of the Wolfpack Club might not be bad at all.
5/6/2010 9:18:51 AM
I think yesterday morning on Mike and Mark's show that he was a finalist for the AD job when Fowler was hired.
5/6/2010 9:28:32 AM
^its mentioned here as wellhttp://www.newsobserver.com/2010/05/06/469456/wolfpack-club-boss-wants-to-be.html

He ain't getting the job
5/10/2010 12:30:04 PM
Yeah, I support the idea of breaking up the position and having an AD for our women teams and one for our men clubs. We also need to go after folks who dont have any tie to the university but have a proven track record of success in the role of athletic director
5/10/2010 12:33:46 PM
5/10/2010 12:40:09 PM
Purcell would have my vote. I don't think we should necessarily hire outside just for the sake of hiring outside. I mean, our buddy Fowler was an outside hire, so you can argue both sides. I'm rooting for Bobby, but feel pretty good about Woodson's decision making skills thus far.
5/10/2010 1:27:52 PM
I'm just impressed that Wolfood98 managed to go an entire post without using an exclamation point. Also there is no point in separating the men's and women's sports into two different athletics departments.

5/10/2010 1:55:51 PM
I've heard the Purdue AD mentioned a few times...I don't know much about him, but I think he is a purdue alum, and they have pretty good athletics in a power conference, so I'm not sure why he'd want to make the jump, or why his name is mentioned.
5/10/2010 2:12:32 PM
^ me either, I have NO idea why his name would be mentioned. None at all. There are no connections to Purdue present at NC State at the moment.[Edited on May 10, 2010 at 2:18 PM. Reason : .]

OK, makes more sense now
5/10/2010 2:28:23 PM
I don't know if Purcell will get the job, but he deserves a fair shake at it. If he completely gets shafted, I'm worried he might get a little bitter against state. The Wolfpack Club can't afford for him to bolt.
5/10/2010 4:05:11 PM
I think Purcell's abilities and fund raising knowledge is best served as Head of the Wolfpack Club. Plus, why would someone take that huge of a pay-cut, when they still would receive a lot of the same benefits as head of the Wolfpack Club??
5/10/2010 5:51:13 PM
5/10/2010 8:38:17 PM
Purcell deserves a fair shake. I would just rather look elsewhere, someone that hasn't dealt with all the same moneymen for the last 10 years. I have to imagine Purcell would get pressure to make decisions from the same people he's been taking money from in the WPC.
5/10/2010 8:49:33 PM
Worst case scenario with Purcell ... we hire him, and he does not have the administrative/political skills to represent us on the national level, which an AD must do for NCSU to get the nod when it comes to involvement in various programs/tourneys/etc.The guy is a lifelong PACK fan, and if he sucks it up as AD, I think his love for the program would allow for a resignation without too much hard feelings ... and we would still keep him as a valuable fundraising resource.Make no mistake about it... the AD job is about administration, politics, and positioning. If its the guys dream job, then by all means he should be considered, simply because of the dedication he has given to the university and the success he has seen in his role with the wolfpack club. But if there is a more successful AD out there that wants to work at NCSU (if the purdue story has any legs, that would be a great hire), then we should seriously consider that option.

about which part?I'd love to have Chuck back as our DC (Archer sucks testicles). If they choose to give him a shot, he is not going to be Herb'd out of town like Lee was. Chuck Amato is welcome back to NCSU IMO because he is an alum and loves the school. The point is: Alums are welcome back, even if they aren't successful at the highest level. And Chuck was fucking cool at times, although he was a fuckface too. Wow:
5/11/2010 12:41:37 AM
Purcell needs to keep doing what he's doing.

so should i send my resume to former Raleigh Mayor Smedes York?
5/12/2010 5:46:20 PM
Smedes York is an alias for HOOPS MALONE. We all know who's running the show.

^^ Carolina is so full of themselves it is ridiculous. Charging $35/plate like it was some politcial fundraiser and then requiring a dress code and restricting media from writing articles until after the dinner - gimme a break. It was a fucking fundraiser. In their defense though, they did raise more money than State (350 X $35 > 700 X $15).We should have charged $20.[Edited on May 14, 2010 at 4:29 PM. Reason : 6]
5/14/2010 4:29:09 PM
I vote for Purcell...he has a great passion for all things ncsu!
5/16/2010 2:28:48 PM
^^to be fair they didn't require the dress code, nrcc did. nrcc isn't that nice of a country club, i'm kinda surprised the required coats and slacks. i would have guessed khakis and a collared shirt would have been ok. err... i mean, fuck carolina
5/16/2010 9:28:02 PM
we should get a big name in busness or economics that knows about sucessfuly predicting and causing sucess. my big names are-Jim Rogers-Peter Shiff-Jack Welsh-John Allison from BB&T which would be a big local business connection move and maybe expand our base in charlotte.

What a wonderful idea. Lets get business leaders with no college athletic or administrative experience. I wonder if Steve Jobs is available.
5/17/2010 10:07:12 PM
there's lots of talk about ending our apparel contract with Adidas in 2012:
5/18/2010 3:53:16 PM
Holy shit I'd love to see us go back to Nike.My #17 Nike jersey remains the only NC State jersey I've ever bought, mainly because the crap that addidas puts out looks like it came straight from the K-Mart on Western.
5/18/2010 4:12:32 PM
The University is paying a professional search committee $75,000 to find the new AD. What a bullshit job! Pay me a one-time fee of $75k to find a new AD and I could probably find a qualified candidate using $10k in travel expenses and pocket the rest.
5/18/2010 4:16:33 PM
Nike or Under Armor. Could we do Nike shoes with Under Armor everything else?

Fowler cheaped out on the basketball search because he "knows basketball" and look what a mess that was. I don't have a problem spending the money and not looking like a bunch of clowns.
