bump for tonight's premiere at the Galaxy...who's going?GrumpyGOP and I don't have tickets yet, but we're getting up there around 9.
10/31/2010 8:14:20 PM
Posting from the galaxy-there's a small crowd here..probably around 15, but tickets shouldn't be a problem.
10/31/2010 9:22:46 PM
Crowd just got noticeably larger-25-35 or so.
10/31/2010 9:27:07 PM
didn't know they were showing this at galaxy tonight. may already be answered in this thread, but will this be a weekly thing or just for halloween?
10/31/2010 9:51:46 PM
Close to a full theater
10/31/2010 9:59:02 PM
Already good imo. Capping little girls in the head.
10/31/2010 10:05:42 PM
i enjoyed.. like the shot at the end zooming out from the tank

1st episode just ended. I'd give it a 9/10Zombie type: walkers, fair motor skills, low-level memory, eats both people & animalsLiked: character & plot building. Follows most all WWZ & Zombie survival guide outline on how zombies will actDisliked: inconsistent zombie aggression. I personally dislike the use of any memory capability with zombies, like knowing how to turn a door knob. Random outdoor camp of survivors - i lol'ed.I didn't read any of the comics, so I had no idea what to expect. I'm just taking it as it comes.

Excellent first episode. I'm hooked for at least one season.

Great show so far...production values were a lot higher than I expected. I haven't read any of the comics yet, but the show is making me want to go pick them all up.Despite the fact that most of the zombies shown so far seem to be the slow, shambling type, they still managed to create some true oh shit moments. I liked the idea that the zombies were attracted to noise, which made using guns a liability at some points. As a side note, I'd highly encourage anyone who didn't watch this at the Galaxy (and is in the area) to watch there. Good crowd, free tickets, very well run, and free giveaways/prizes each week.
11/1/2010 12:04:25 AM
*thumbs up!*
11/1/2010 12:12:41 AM
i already saw this before it came out, not enough action imo
11/1/2010 12:24:24 AM
caught most of this tonight during the game. not bad for a zombie show. i expected a lot of "jump-scare" scenes (especially when the dude was just getting out of the hospital) but so far its been pretty minimal, which makes the show more realistic IMO. i'm going to go ahead and predict that the kid is going to become a liability and will need to be dealt with when he has a close run in with the mom.[Edited on November 1, 2010 at 12:47 AM. I will agree with most of you that this pilot worked great on its own. The lack of zombie jump scares and "oh shit" moments worked far better to convey the sense of isolation in this world. As far as people saying there was good character development however, i do not agree with that. There was very minimal development and the character that was the most, Morgan Jones, isn't even a series regular and we may not see him again. Thus making this statement somewhat irrelevant.
11/1/2010 8:07:17 AM
I give the first episode an 8/10. I guess I was just thinking too much during it. I felt like most of the show I was like "Why would anyone do that?" and "Do these people live in a world where no one has ever seen a zombie movie??" Maybe I was just being too critical about those points, but I just never would see myself making some of the decisions the characters were making.Spoiler(ish):Also, was it just me or did it seem like he had been in that hospital for at least several weeks? I mean based on the rotting bodies and the damage in the streets and stuff, it looked like it had been quite a while since all of it began. Just wondered how he survived with one IV bag for several weeks and woke up with a well-trimmed beard. Guess I started thinking about that scenario back when 28 Days Later came out, and it never set well then either.End spoiler.

I highly recommend reading the books, there are 12-issue hardcovers that I got at the library. I was totally hooked and read the first 4 in one sitting. mild spoiler about Morgan:in the novels, Morgan and son reappear but MUCH later. it would be a few more seasons of the show.
11/1/2010 8:26:04 AM
morgan jones and son are original characters (not new to the tv show).. he stays behind in the town and you don't hear from him for a long time. though i hope they change that and write him in sooner.
11/1/2010 8:27:45 AM
You guys should read the comics if you want to get far ahead. There should be like 12 volumes out already and they're available from the libraries. I went through them all so fast last summer and can't wait for more.
11/1/2010 8:41:45 AM
The biggest flaw I saw was that he went to Atlanta and the zombie demographics were like 98% white. No way.
11/1/2010 10:07:55 AM
the second biggest flaw I saw was he was broadcasting that he was driving down I-85 en route to Atlanta but was driving down a two lane country road for much of the trip. And don't tell me he went the business route!
11/1/2010 10:13:21 AM
lolI think he needs to learn to siphon fuel tanks too.Siphoning gas from that farmer's truck > riding a horse.
11/1/2010 10:18:59 AM
I dunno about all that. A horse is quiet, can go offroad, negotiate obstacles, and run on incredibly abundant fuel. Whereas his cop car is noisy, very restricted in terms of terrain, and runs on a rapidly diminishing supply of gasoline.Even in ATL he would have been fucked without the horse, which distracted the zombies long enough for him to get under the tank.A minor flaw that pops out to me as a zombie nut was the road going into Atlanta. It was jam-packed leaving the city but empty going on. You mean to tell me that people stuck in a traffic jam fleeing the living dead wouldn't pull across the median and just go down the wrong side of the road? I'd happily bounce my Corolla over some grass for that opportunity and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
11/1/2010 10:53:04 AM
I enjoyed it. I haven't read the comic so I was a blank slate. I'm glad they are finally making a series about something like this. As much as I love zombie movies, it's just hard to really get a feel of how isolated and life-changing something like this can be in just a 90 minute movie.I was also surprised (pleasantly) by the scene where he kills the half-bodied zombie in the park. Never thought I would feel a tinge of sadness for a zombie Oh, and a cop with a primary weapon being a revolver? Really? I'm pretty sure even cops out here in BFE Kansas have semi-autos as primary weapons. And while I'm on the topic of guns, a glock with a manual safety? Come on now...[Edited on November 1, 2010 at 11:02 AM. Reason : guns is good ummmmk]

^ In the episode there was another scene with cars jam packed on the highway and a big green grass median separating the two sections of highway. Didn't even look like it had a ditch.
11/1/2010 11:35:30 AM
Maybe it had rained and the median was muddy. You people are looking waaaaaaaay to far into this. I fear for the rest of the season. Its going to be "The Colony" all over again

They made a pretty big deal about noise attracting zombies so the horse wasn't a bad idea.
11/1/2010 12:02:26 PM
should have acquired a volt... Then have him survive on slim-jims and coke, while running away from zombies in Nike athletic gear, smoking Marlboro's, and drinking Gatorade...
11/1/2010 12:12:24 PM
^x8 funny stuff. didn't realize it, but that's a photoshopped picture of Freedom Parkway, about 2 miles from my apartment. also quite appropriate, as the sheer number of homeless drug addicts begging for money on that road make it feel like a zombie infestation sometimes. DVR'd episode one last night, looking forward to it...[Edited on November 1, 2010 at 12:43 PM. Reason : ..]
11/1/2010 12:42:03 PM
Oh yeah, side note.... the part when he first encountered the zombie that had been chopped in half ... did it remind anyone else of Dead Rising? Dude dressed funny (hospital gown) riding a random bike among a bunch of zombies?
11/1/2010 1:46:24 PM
11/1/2010 3:24:52 PM
Logically, it could only be about a week. I doubt anyone would be coming in to change his IV.Other factors make it seem more like 3-4 weeks (didn't the black guy say something to that effect?)
11/1/2010 3:27:35 PM
there really is no way to discern a time-frame yet. we can kinda guess based on little things like the flowers in the hospital room, the IV bag, his facial hair, the black guy explaining when the gas was shut off. i figured 4-6 weeks myself which i guess would be long enough for the world to go to hell.
11/1/2010 3:42:07 PM
Do hospitals normally have some kind of backup system to maintain water pressure? He drank some from the tap when he woke up.
11/1/2010 3:44:51 PM
there was still power in the hospital, most likely emergency generators though. so it's possible the hospital has some kind of pumping system tied into the emergency power for water purposes.
11/1/2010 3:58:51 PM
Hospitals usually have everything they need to keep self sufficient for a while in terms of power and water, they usually have some sort of emergency plans in place when utilities are cut off, say in a hurricane. To be able to run for a week would be most likely, but beyond that, I would question if outside aid would be needed.

I wouldn't have heard of this show if not for my zombie-obsessed friend telling me about it 2 days ago, but it looks like it could be my new favorite show (i have none right now, not since Battlestar Galactica). And i was wondering how long the guy was there... i was thinking 1-2 weeks, although he looks like he only had about a weeks worth of facial hair growth.I don't know (nor do i care) anything about the comics either, so far I like the atmosphere and the fact that it's about the survival situation, not really just blood/guts/zombies.
