4/3/2010 5:23:06 PM

I'm having a hard time deciding what ticket to get, and if I should buy one for my girlfriend or not (I'm pretty certain she'll hate most of the bands because she has no musical taste). Either way, I'm not much of a clubber and I'd really just be going to see the bands I want to see. So what, 45 dollars? 85?
4/3/2010 10:30:25 PM
Which bands do you want to see? If you only want to see some of the non-headlining bands, I'd just get the $45 wristband (even though the headlining shows are going to be awesome). If you're just looking to see either BSS/Panda Bear OR Public Enemy/No Age/The Love Language, I'd just buy one $30 ticket. If you want to see both those headlining shows, though, may as well go the extra $25 for a lot more music.
4/3/2010 10:51:25 PM
I think I'll get the 85 dollar one. I want to see both headlining shows and there's AT LEAST three to five smaller bands I want to go see.BIG QUESTION though. The website mentions some of the clubs are 21+ only, what clubs are those? I'm 21 but some of the friends I wanted to take aren't, so I don't want to rodeo them into a show they won't be able to see.
4/3/2010 10:53:06 PM
I think Lincoln Theatre has like a $2 surcharge most of the time if you're under 21, but I know Tir Na Nog, for instance, won't even let you in if you're under 21, and I don't think The Pour House or Slim's do, either. Since we don't really know yet which bands are playing where, I think it's gonna be pretty tough for people under 21. There's a decent chance they won't get to see the bands they want to; I don't know if there will be special rules in effect for the festival or not, though.
4/3/2010 11:17:01 PM
just bought the $85 wrist band. pumped for this, can't believe it's right here in the triangle.
4/6/2010 7:20:19 AM
10 VIP wristbands left.If you want 'em, now is the time!

Here's why they did a great job booking this festival (besides the awesome huge names they got)--a lot of the artists on the bill that many people hadn't heard of when the list came out will be well-known and well-established breakout artists come September. Grayson/whoever did a great job picking the up-and-comers: Harlem, Future Islands (even though people around here have known about them for a while), Javelin, Washed Out, Best Coast, Cults, First Rate People, Sharon Van Etten--many of these bands will probably have breakout years to some degree.
4/11/2010 2:08:16 PM
I'm digging the Harlem record so far.

VIP sold out. Got one an hour and a half before.

All club shows start at 9:00. This means the entire festival, as it exists after the City Plaza shows, takes place in a 5-hour block from 9-2am. So 120 bands really play in 15 hours. Whew.Just this year, there have been a bunch of nights where jumping between shows has been an incredible feat of coordination - and this is just in order to catch parts of the shows.[Old Bricks and Daredevil Christopher Wright (Slim's)the same night as Benji Hughes (Pour House)....or Veelee and Gross Ghost at Slim'sandRyan Gustafson at Tir-na-nogback in Februaryeven Megafaun/Rosebuds and Raleigh Undercover nights, and those are next door to each other]These venues' front doors are a 4-5 minute walk through the parking deck and I still managed to miss large parts of all sets. And it isn't distance - it's timing.I'm totally on board - I know the guys in charge personally, and work at one of the clubs. It is a brave fucking idea and if they pull it off we'll be blessed with this for years. I'm excited for our shows (though working the whole weekend probably means I won't see a thing outside of Slim's) but I wonder where the line between frustrating and fascinating is for "trying to catch lots of shows."Even at Bonnaroo, a 18-20-hours-of-each-day-event, you end up posting up on one stage a lot because it is just easier, and everything is good.

I don't know if Grayson's got access to his account at this point or not, but he asked me to address two things:
4/22/2010 7:40:01 PM
awesome.
4/22/2010 7:45:35 PM
it would be really awesome if they somehow allowed for open containers that weekendpeople are gonna be slamming beers so they can go to the next place
4/22/2010 8:00:20 PM
I'm bringing some under-21 friends, so sadly I'll probably miss most of the club shows this year, but I'm definitely going to both headlining shows.
4/22/2010 8:23:31 PM

there are only two mentions of Washed Out in this whole thread, and only one mention of The Golden Filter, and those two are by far the best acts.
5/5/2010 6:12:30 PM
All reports from last week are that Washed Out is garbage live.
5/5/2010 6:32:31 PM
A chillwave artist is garbage live? No way!
