so we're arguing that people can filibuster in the HOUSE now?

ok just caps and bold now?

the house has the filibuster now?

Ummm.Ok, so this "deem and pass" thing is the Senate bill plus a bill for Reconciliation right (hence using Deem and Pass instead of wasting time and political capital trying to pass them separately)?Which means that the second part still has to pass the Senate. And unless the VP either gets really lucky and the Senate Parliamentarian says that the whole thing is kosher with Reconciliation or the VP grows a pair and ignores the Senate Parliamentarian and proceeds with the vote anyway then there is still a strong chance of it being held up by a filibuster.Right?Just wanting to get my facts straight for my inevitable disappointment when Biden fails to grow a pair.[Edited on March 19, 2010 at 10:49 PM. no. that would defeat the entire purpose. the reconciliation bill is separate from the senate bill. and the senate bill has already passed the senate (obviously)

As I understand it, the House will vote yes to the rule which will mean that they are passing the Senate version as-is.What scares House democrats is that they have to trust that the Senate will come back quickly and fix all the problems that will get House democrats voted out of office for in November (fed. payment for abortion etc). I'm predicting after the vote, Obama & the senate dems will declare victory and never try to mention health-care again until after the election...thus leaving House dems out to dangle in the wind...where we salivating conservatives will tear them to shreds.

^^ I should have stated that differently, there's still a chance of the Reconciliation portion being held up if the Senate Parliamentarian says no and Biden doesn't choose to ignore him. The portion which has already passed the Senate would, of course, be considered passed as it would have been voted on in the House and the Senate. ^ They pass a bill that includes language that they're also passing another bill. It's just a logistical trick to roll the two bills into one so they won't have to have two different roll call votes. It's not going to fool anybody come election time if they're going to vote against a Rep for voting for or against HCR. It's a vote on both bills, at one time. I'm surprised you aren't applauding this fine example of efficiency in government.[Edited on March 20, 2010 at 8:27 AM. Reason : /]

they are no worse than your assertion that the house can filibuster

It's funny the level of childishness you resort to.

rumor that they're not going to use deem and pass?50+ senators signed a letter saying they'd vote for the reconciliation bill.

^^ yes, because all of those things really helped BCBS keep prices down. So much so that they abandoned those things because they couldn't compete. You know the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing and expecting different results.Hey Kris, it's funny how you think that Republicans are filibustering in the House^ yeah, FoxNews is reporting that they aren't going to use the Slaughter rule. Which is probably a good thing.]

continuing to do something that is unConsitutional doesn't make it any less unConstitutional. Even if the pubs have used it before, it doesn't change anything. That is what is called "tu quoque."
