I dont think theyre being cheap assesand no, i tip well, i also give bums on the street a few dollars when i got itthats not relevant, whats relevant is that leaving the minimum standard tip on a bill is considered cheap. Its bare minimum, yea, but its not cheap.why dont you do the classy thing and put a sign on the door saying that the bar minimum is 20% and if they aint ballin they can fuck off and go to sammys or maybe make you waitstaff do a better job?? its not like they left a dollar on the bill
1/27/2010 1:04:43 PM
I would posit that the bad tippers have never worked a day in their life and/or believe themselves to be entitled.
1/27/2010 1:04:45 PM
I've worked in the service industry, so I feel for ya, but really, if someone leave's 15%, you better be fucking ecstatic. But I agree, 15% is the bare minimum. "if you can't afford an appropriate tip, you can't afford to go out"15% is appropriate. Especially at a bar. It's not like you did that much, really. ESPECIALLY at a place like The Bar, where you walk all of 3 steps to get from the patron to the tap and then back. Don't act like you're really providing that much of a service. Ok, MAYBE when you mix a drink, but even then...[Edited on January 27, 2010 at 1:08 PM. Reason : .]

the bad waiters have never worked a real job in their lives and believe themselves to be entitled to more money than they oft deserveits not my problem, i tip well, but im not gonna look over another nigga bill and judge him because he leaves less money than I didthats bullshit[Edited on January 27, 2010 at 1:07 PM. I got no problem telling my friend he's cheap. and because he's my friend, he'd probably say "yeah, I know", and we'd laugh it off.meanwhile you're in here rationalizing how cheap you are

well I'm sure she's glad we were there so she could come in and spend $2.50 to feed herself
1/27/2010 1:17:58 PM
i go out to eat at buffets alonein fact i go to the wing bar at wild wings during lunch and pound wings all by myself in a booth
1/27/2010 1:18:48 PM
that does sound kind of nice
1/27/2010 1:20:15 PM
I think the amount you tip is a direct correlation to how good of a person you are...with rare exceptions (and with monetary limitations as well).

1/28/2010 12:31:55 AM
FUCK YAH BRO
1/28/2010 12:20:07 PM
the real question here is, do you tip at hibachi style restaurants?the waiters/waitresses there only take your order and refill your drinks - is that deserving of a tip?in the past I have left tips for the hibachi cooks and just a couple bucks for the waiters
1/28/2010 12:37:59 PM
the waitstaff never vouch for the cooksgive them minimum tip out and thats that
1/28/2010 12:44:31 PM
no longer going to tip anyone at all. This will help pay for health care.
3/24/2010 1:33:03 PM
3/24/2010 1:33:47 PM
to keep yourselves healthy, you probably shouldn't go out to eat at all. i've been in the restaurant industry for a while now, at a few different establishments, and even I'm amazed at the astronomical amount of salt cooks use...not to mention the pure butter, oil, lard, heavy cream, bacon grease in some recipes, lard & sugar in the desserts.going to restaurants is not only stupid, financially speaking, but also on a health level
3/24/2010 1:37:44 PM
this is very true. i need to get back in the habit of cooking at home.
3/24/2010 1:42:43 PM
LOLZ WHAT ABOUT SWEET TOMATOES
3/24/2010 1:43:22 PM

3/24/2010 1:45:39 PM

3/24/2010 1:49:54 PM
so are their soups
3/24/2010 1:50:56 PM
I always give my waitress just the tip IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN LOL
3/24/2010 1:52:34 PM
I know it's old but
3/24/2010 1:54:07 PM
3/24/2010 1:55:29 PM
When did the 15% standard become 20%? What justifies this increase?
3/24/2010 2:22:09 PM
i grew up tippin 20% for basic good waiters/waitresses10% at buffetsand more or less based on whether they were super awesome or mega fags
3/24/2010 2:29:00 PM
Definitely if i'm at some shitty restaurant and my bill is like $6.23 i sure as fuck will tip $1.77 especially since when i eat at shitty places with friends we usually don't spend more than like 25 minutes there after we get food. I'm not about to tip $4 on some cheap ass food. Thats like 28% and you can suck my dick if you want fat tips at some hole in the wall place. Get a real job.One time a girl i was with bitched because i wrote some shit down like 1.77 and i was like "Lets just say i tipped 1.75 and everyone else did then she just made 7 bucks in like 40 minutes off just one table, not to count whatever 2 dollars she makes an hour plus whatever other table she's waiting."I'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.[Edited on March 24, 2010 at 2:42 PM. paerabol i do not tip consistently but i hope i am not a bad tipper thx
3/24/2010 2:44:39 PM
I leave 20% in cash, unless it's really shitty service. Also, I leave money in hotel rooms for the cleaning staff. Usually it's $10/day given it's a thankless job and they work harder than most wait staff.
3/24/2010 2:44:50 PM
frosh you and yours are exempt from the requirement of tipping
3/24/2010 2:46:07 PM
I realize this thread is about tipping, which I have no knowledge. Hear me out,

paerabol, I like you but I have to say that its a % for a reason, not a minimum amount + % beyond that . I bussed then waited for awhile in HS and some of college so I have been on the waiter's side in this situation a lot too.For me: 15% standard if they got the job done, 20%+ if they did an excellent job, <15% if they slacked off, especially at a time when its not really busy. Only time I completely flat out didn't tip someone was when I went to get lunch somewhere at about 3 in the afternoon. The place was dead and I think the waitress we had only had us or 1 other table at the most. The hostess took our drink orders and brought them to us. The waitress came up and took our orders but she wasnt even the one to deliver the food, the manager did. Later, the girl was just leaning up against the wall flirting with another waiter and I actually had to wave at the waiter she was talking to get her attention to get drink refills and she acted like it was a pain to stop flirting and do her job. The only thing she did was write our order down and bring us the receipt.[Edited on March 24, 2010 at 3:00 PM. Reason : ]

now that i am gainfully employed i can tip better
3/24/2010 2:59:43 PM
i tip on their willingness to get me large amounts of hookups
3/24/2010 3:03:36 PM
^^^ i'd say that's fair. I make my living off tips and I'm usually waaay too generous when I tip, but I stiffed a guy at Olive Garden few years back because he just sucked that bad. Not busy, not in training, just didn't care about the job. And I wasn't happy about being at the OG to begin with. But like I've said in this thread multiple times, it really doesn't bother me. I make good money for the work, so I'm not worried about some bad tippers as far as my income's concerned. It's more just interesting to me from a social standpoint, I'm very much a people watcher. Once in a while though I do get mad. And I love telling people they can have their next beer when they tip me on the last one. You really have to have been a needy douchebag for me to get to that point though, I usually let a lot of shit slide if I think you're cool otherwise.[Edited on March 24, 2010 at 3:06 PM. for the most part, I'm there to spend a certain amountso if you hook my friends and I up on the tab, I'm probably gonna give you the difference anyway
3/24/2010 3:08:18 PM
okay i should preface the 3 on 20 judgmentif you come up to the bar and order three $7 shots and you leave $3 on $21, yeah i'm absolutely cool with that. If you spend 3 hours drinking ten $1.50 beers and ordering half-price food, no, $3 on $20 is definitely not a good tip.[Edited on March 24, 2010 at 3:19 PM. 3 bucks for anything up to 10 bucks5 bucks for anything up to 20 bucks20 percent thereafter
3/24/2010 3:26:12 PM
I round to the nearest full dollar amount between 15 and 20 percent. And have never once felt bad about it when it was closer to 15.
3/24/2010 3:27:22 PM
usually 25 - 30%, rounded to the nearest $5 multiple, unless they don't pay attention to my group
3/24/2010 3:29:47 PM
I usually tip 20-30 percent even though I'm poor
3/24/2010 3:30:54 PM
To truly send a message that is understood nearly universally by waiters, leaving a small tip, such as a US penny, if in the United States, is a good way to express your displeasure with the service. This sends the unmistakable signal that, yes, you meant to tip. However, a tip of any substantial value was not warranted. http://www.wisegeek.com/when-should-you-not-tip-your-waiter.htmI am going to start leaving just a penny everywhere
5/4/2010 4:30:44 PM
i'm not talking about the penny/nickel tip herebut when someone just leaves the change, say 77 cents on a bill that's 9.23i love it when the waiter gives it back, especially if they follow the person out the door to do soLOVE IT
