I haven't been able to stop thinking about fishing for the last week. I wish it would warm up already
2/18/2010 12:01:12 PM
november-february is my favorite time to trout fish
2/18/2010 12:02:04 PM
hmm, where do you go?
2/18/2010 12:02:31 PM
neuse, pamlico, bay, pungo rivers and different creeks off them.
2/18/2010 12:04:28 PM
Got any suggestions for a good flounder spot this weekend? I was thinking about putting in near Swansboro and trying some of the spots around there.
2/18/2010 12:07:29 PM
I'm thinking about a hiking/fishing trip up in the mountains; my dad told me his favorite time was in April. As I said, i'm a newbie so I was just trusting him (he used to hold a few NC fishing records back in the 80's so I assumed he was right). Is the season different up there?
2/18/2010 12:08:44 PM
^those aren't even the same species. i fish for "sea trout". i have no idea about freshwater trout.^^you gonna use live bait of artificials? what kinda boat?
2/18/2010 12:10:12 PM
fuck, I knew that. forgive me - it's still early You wouldn't know much about fishing spots in the Charleston area would you?
2/18/2010 12:11:36 PM
nope. i've only fished in NC and VA.
2/18/2010 12:13:49 PM
no, he doesnt know anything
2/18/2010 12:13:54 PM
Well if you're in to pier fishing you're more than welcome to come hang out in Charleston. Hopefully i'll have a place for you to crash before too long.
2/18/2010 12:14:58 PM
i love fishing off the pier.
2/18/2010 12:15:25 PM
I fish on folly pier http://www.ccprc.com/index.aspx?nid=66I had a lot of luck with blue this last year. I've seen some pretty big king caught too. The sights are pretty good too, if you know what I mean
2/18/2010 12:17:18 PM
i usually king fish and dick around with catching bait and spanish when they come through. blues ain't nothing but bait [Edited on February 18, 2010 at 1:03 PM. Reason : since they tore down long beach pier, i've gone to seaview a few times, but it mostly sucks]
2/18/2010 1:02:44 PM
haha yeah to be honest I ended up giving a lot of the fish I caught to the guys fishing king. I'm going to try to get into king this year.. any beginner tips?
2/18/2010 1:18:44 PM
king fishing is mostly about the camaraderie, but half the guys down there are dicks. i don't go king fishing on a pier to catch kings. if i actually want to catch one, i'll stop being jewish and go on a fucking boat. a lot of those guys don't get it. you'll meet a lot of know-it-alls and douches, but you'll also meet some really chill guys who would do anything for you.so far as actual fishing advice, go ahead and spend the money for a TLD or something with a lever drag. lever drag makes it a hell of a lot easier to adjust your drag and know where it's set and if you hook something and get it to the pier, you're gonna have to make drag adjustments quickly and know where your drag is set or the line's gonna break or he'll run under the pier and break you off.get your own gaff, because some of those fuckers hate a mooch. don't use your gaff on other people's fish unless there's nobody else out there with one. those douches i mentioned earlier skeet all over themselves for a chance to gaff a fish and you'll just be in the way.get a drop net. same rules apply for this as for the gaff.if they have a bait tank on the pier, take a bait bucket anyway.don't worry too much when you fuck something up. you might piss someone off, but the best way to get back on his good side is to ask him how he prevents that problem from happening and do whatever he says to do, even if it is dumb and makes no sense. king fishing is fun when the people like you, even if you don't catch anything or if you lose a fish, but catching a truckload isn't fun if the old farts down there hate you.

swansboro is probably about as good as any spot. i usually don't target flounder until the water warms up. we pick up a few in the creeks through the winter as we're trout fishing, but we definitely pick up way more from april to october.

heading down to ft. fisher, carolina beach, oki, march 12th anyone wanna come with..
2/19/2010 12:05:42 AM
^^i don't really have much interest in going that far to fish or dealing with the crowded boat ramps and fishing holes of morehead city/beaufort/atlantic beach anymore. ever since i learned to fish the creeks and rivers for my specks and drum, about the only thing that gets me to go down there anymore are reports of good cobia bites.

look at virginia and florida. nuff said.pretty much, they need to get rid of netting and trawling, but they're so damn scared that somebody will lose their job. the netters believe they have a right to it "because my diddy and his diddy before were all netters and it's all i know." that don't make it OK imo. if we built our fisheries into the awesome recreational fishing destination that it could be, i'd be willing to bet we'd bring more money into the state than commercial fishing does (see VA and FL). right now there are tons of people from NC driving several hours hauling boats and buying VA fishing licenses so that they can go fishing and actually have a chance of catching something. that's money that NC is missing out on b/c a bunch of politicians are afraid they'll lose the white trash vote from down around the coast if they restrict netting.[Edited on February 19, 2010 at 9:03 AM. Reason : adfs][Edited on February 19, 2010 at 9:04 AM. Reason : and there's a lot of white trash vote on the coast of NC]
2/19/2010 8:57:09 AM
Copy that, and I don't disagree, necessarily. Its def a heated topic. I've heard stories of bricks being thrown through truck windshields just b/c they have a CCA sticker on the back!
2/19/2010 9:19:43 AM
^ i have heard that as well. just stupid acts of vandalism
2/19/2010 9:27:24 AM
when you start seeing nets stretched across 40 feet of a 50 ft wide creek, it'll make you wanna grab a fillet knife and commit some vandalism as welli've literally had to move nets before because they had them stretched across the entire creek
2/19/2010 9:42:21 AM
yea that is some bullshit. people need to have a little bit of respect. i knew it was pretty bad. but i didnt know is was getting to that.
2/19/2010 9:53:50 AM
the netters just don't see a problem with it
2/19/2010 1:10:41 PM
2/20/2010 11:36:10 AM
the places where you can catch fish get crowded, trust me
2/20/2010 4:43:15 PM
63 today. tackle box and a 12 pack are in the truck. lets hit the lake
2/21/2010 12:12:21 PM
i'm actually thinking about going to lake raleigh and fishing from the bank for a hour or so before the race today. it's beautiful outside.
2/21/2010 12:40:22 PM
^Thats exactly what i am doin except i feel like goin to wheeler
2/21/2010 12:42:29 PM
i never catch shit from the bank there, but i don't really care. just wanna go sit in the sun a little.
2/21/2010 12:44:56 PM
yeah i dont know youre right now that i think about it but i dont care i just wanna cast the line a few times
2/21/2010 12:46:02 PM
i was referring to lake raleigh when i said i don't catch shit from the bank "there". i've never fished lake wheeler.[Edited on February 21, 2010 at 1:00 PM. Reason : anybody wanna meet me at lake raleigh? i'll have some extra rods.]
2/21/2010 1:00:14 PM
i didn't catch anything, but it sure was beautiful outside. lake raleigh was crowded.
2/21/2010 3:20:03 PM
only spent and hour out there but i got nothing also
2/21/2010 6:11:06 PM
Sad we will be leaving the NC coast but hopefully they have some good fishing in Okinawa. It is the one thing my husband and I love to do plus I have never seen him happier then when he is fishing.
2/21/2010 6:24:28 PM
asian people will buy anything you catch. they'd give me $5 each for skates that i'd catch on the pier.
2/21/2010 6:28:38 PM
i am going to try and go fishing everyday. i got breaks that will allow it so i figure and hour or two of shore fishin would be a nice break
2/22/2010 12:57:35 AM
2/22/2010 5:26:15 PM
i dicked around at lake raleigh for about an hour this afternoon. didn't catch anything. some annoying know it all dude on a liquor cycle wouldn't shut the fuck up.
3/1/2010 7:23:17 PM
is there any fish in lake raleigh? same goes for lake johnson.
3/1/2010 8:54:16 PM
caught from lake raleigh:there are some decent bass, some really really nice crappie, some bream and catfish too. you really need a small boat to get to them, though. i never catch shit from the bank there. i've never fished in lake johnson.
3/2/2010 8:13:47 AM
I caught the biggest bass of my life at Lake Johnson. But the electric trolling motor isn't fast enough for people my size.
3/3/2010 8:29:14 PM
set up the set up
3/3/2010 10:03:40 PM
any of y'all ever fished Hyco or Mayo reservoirs?
