Unless that somehow allows me to completely change around the movement in the game, preferably towards AvP2, no that will not help.

PSM Australia gave it a 9 but Gamespot gave it a 5.5

The reviews for this game are all over the place

The worst part of those reviews is that it sounds like many of these reviewers had never even heard of AvP before the movies or this game.

I will never take Game Informer seriously again.

Played a good bit of the alien campaign so far. Some of the animations of the marines are really bad.

The gameplay itself reminds me of "Jaws Unleashed" where you basically run around and eat people then find the hole in the net.

Looking forward to the other campaigns though.

So far I definitely like the idea of the game. The alien is played just like all the previous games, a big hunt for the one vent the level designer meant for you to take. But the rest of it seems like a great idea, a bit of a mix of Arkham Asylum thrown in, as you figure out hunting your prey using elevated platforms, recessed vents, and raw sprinting, all without them getting a shot off. Of course, it is not well done, as the marines seem to get stuck sometimes while they wander unintelligently around the levels, and they don't seem to show any emotion or change their behavior such as when they find a dead comrade, and the voice acting is painful, as all the marines say the same lines with different actors. "Don't let your guard down" my ass! If you bring in a different actor then for gods sake, give them a different script.

And the controls do leave a bit to be desired, the camera too. But rendering the body of the alien is a great idea, the problem is that they let it get in the way of the game, as whenever you abruptly reverse direction your movement is sometimes delayed while the body reorientates and even takes up space... You get used to it, and I'm sure it makes it look much better from a third person perspective such as multiplayer, but it is a trade-off. At first it was disconcerting to turn around and see my own tail. Now I understand why dogs chase these things, as they are constantly following you around just on the edge of your vision.

Eh.

The predator part is pretty cool, but I feel like it could have been fleshed out better. I would have liked more stealth based play and I got tired of looking for the next perch that the designer wanted me to jump on. From what I've played of it, the marine part is pretty cool. It actually does a fairly decent job of capturing the suspense of the second film. The alien feels like it was just throw in so that you could play all three characters.

The level design is alright, though I feel like it suffers because it was built to accommodate all three types of players. I haven't been impressed with the AI. All types of enemies just feel like meat that occasionally shoots/bites back. I'd like less linear game play, though thats probably not possible because all three storylines are so closely connected. Playing as alien and predator I had a few moments where I'd rather not go into a room because it looked like a trap, but I didn't have a choice because it was part of the storyline. Graphics cover the whole spectrum from cool to surprisingly bad - there were actually a few spots where I felt like I was playing a PC game circa 1999.

One of my biggest complaints as far as canon was trying to match all three species. Humans should be weakest, then aliens (their strength being numbers), then predators. Instead, everyone can take and dish out melee attacks with the same effect. The trophy kills were cool at first but got played out pretty quickly after seeing all five or so exact same animations repeatedly.

All in all, I'd rather have a dedicated predator game and a dedicated marine game instead of cramming both plus playable aliens into a short game with much too broad a scope. Maybe my opinion will be a bit more favorable once I get into multiplayer, but right now I say just rent it.

Predator plays better than the alien. Still have not played marines (taking then in turn). So far, not worth the money, but darn close. At least on the PC you get to save $10 :-)

It's basically a FPS anyway. Single Player is virtually superfluous.

Play some species DM and come back to me. It's worth every penny.

That being said I'm enjoying the Alien campaign.

^ Completed the Predator story and partook of some species DM, totally swayed. Well worth owning and I still have not played the marine story.

^^ I doubt that will be possible. The store bought which I have links to steam. As such, other than box art and a faster installation, there is no benefit from buying in the store over steam: it is just as non-transferrable. As such, there will be no E-Bay or TWW sales of the game, unless they created a special steam account just for this game purchase, then maybe they can sell you the login/password. You don't even need the DVDs to install or play once you have it steam linked. Either way, save the $3+ dollars in sales tax, buy the game on steam.

I take it they have not yet tried to make 360 or PS3 games non-transferable? Maybe that is why PC people get the $10 off... on well.

My game locks up whenever I try to join a Mulityplayer game. Open ticket with Sega, but we'll see how that works out.

Got into multiplayer a bit tonight.

Not crazy about playing as alien. Thats the only time that the controls really feel clunky for me. Most of the time I end up sprinting to close on someone before the can notice me and then furiously mashing tabs in the hope that I'll get the kill before they wax me.

Had some fun with species death match.

Predator hunt was fun, though I don't like the time limit on predators. It prevents any real stalking and killing and instead pushes you to rush in try to get some kills. Smart gun pretty much dominates predator though.

It really bugs me that you can't look down the sights on the pulse rifle.

Girlfriend picked this up for me . Started the campaign for Alien and Predator, but haven't gotten that far. Playing on Hard (one up from Normal) and the Predator levels are a LOT tougher than I was anticipating.

I had that same problem. I found the fix on this forum post:
http://www.aliensvspredator.net/forum/topic/4525-mp-freeze-fix-pc/
You need to verify your AVP via steam. This can be done by right clicking AVP in your steam MY GAMES window, then to PROPERIES -> LOCAL FILES -> VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE.

It scanned through and said one file was corrupt and would be re-downloaded. The forum post says this will lose your single player status (levels completed and rank), but after performing this fix I did not lose anything. But it did fix the problem.

Finally finished the Marine campaign. This is now officially one of my top 10 favorite games of all time... but others should take that with a grain of salt.

I don't think the Predator missions are as fun. Its a lot easier to screw up and die since Marines can see you pretty easily even with your camouflage, and Aliens are constantly coming at you from every corner.

Marine missions can be scary as fuck and the Aliens missions are just plain fun.

If anyone is still on the fence about this game, it's $25 at Target now. I had passed before, but I broke down and got it.

OK, so I finished both Marine and Predator campaigns. Whoever programmed the soundbite "Don't let your guard down, Marines" ought to be punched since I must have heard it 300 times in one campaign runthrough. Is there seriously no way to mod this since it's got to be run through Steam? The graphics were alright, but some of the gameplay mechanics just don't make sense to me. You can't really tell me that a Marine can block a close-range wristblade strike with his rifle. And why can't the combistick be used as a melee weapon? That'd be so much more interesting. I can't believe that the previous AVP games were so much better mechanically than this one...

the game has a lot of shit mechanics. the whole melee thing is stupid. the fact that it completely disorients you makes melee really overpowered as anyone good will not let you recover from a melee attack.

I just can't believe that the plasma caster has such an extremely limited amount of usefulness. I shot a Marine with it FOUR times before he was dead. One charged shot would have probably done it, but at a much greater expense of energy. It's stupid how it won't replenish itself. The throwing disc or combistick, though? One shot kills. And the cloak isn't worth a damn either since it turns off when you make your move. The cloak stays on when you use the disc or combistick, but not the plasma caster or wristblades? Really?

I'm so irritated by this game, and I was really hoping that I'd love it. It could be substantially better if the gameplay mechanics could be modded.
