I've bought "Guru of Go" (Hank Gathers), "The Band that Wouldn't Die" (Baltimore Colts), and Small Potatoes: Who Killed the USFL? off of iTunes so far. I found June 17th, 1994 on YouTube after it came out, but I still plan on buying it once it's available. They picked the perfect song for the end of June 17th. Probably my new favorite sports documentary.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjPDayIh08s

^ one of the many reasons why that's been my favorite one so far

June 17, 1994: Codahttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVKVQAa3L-wRudy Giuliani and Ken Griffey, Jr. are the best parts.[Edited on September 17, 2010 at 2:58 PM. Reason : .]

Bump for today's 30 for 30 on Marcus Dupree. One of my favorites. Went into a lot of issues that college athletes are facing today...[Edited on November 9, 2010 at 10:20 PM. Reason : ]

Marcus Dupree you are amazing, and your story depresses the shit out of me.
11/12/2010 12:00:09 AM
Want to also recommend the Tim Richmond episode. As someone who stopped watching NASCAR around 1997, it brought back a lot of memories. RIP.
11/12/2010 2:56:39 PM
Marcus Dupree film was greatCouple of points from Wikipedia that it seems like should have been mentioned:
12/6/2010 10:26:21 PM
I checked out that book "the courting of marcus dupree" after seeing that one. I love this series, downloaded the first seven episodes so far. Even the ones on sports I don't like have been great.

http://www.amazon.com/ESPN-Films-Gift-Set-Collection/dp/B003YMR98Mthis is a damn good deal, even if you only liked 4 or 5 of the first 15. They're selling individually from $13-20 but you can get all 15 for $50. The movies included areKings Ransom, The Band That Wouldnt Die, Small Potatoes: Who Killed The USFL?, Muhammad & Larry, Without Bias, The Legend of Jimmy The Greek, The U, Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. The New York Knicks, Guru of Go, No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson, Silly Little Game, Run Ricky Run, The 16th Man, Straight Outta L.A. and June 17th, 1994.

^ was on the xmas listdefinitely looking forward to the "Pony Excess" episode too
12/7/2010 8:55:34 AM
12/7/2010 9:09:00 AM
Pony Excess looks like a really good one...possibly a prelude to:"Trouble in Blue Heaven""What if I told you that a traditional basketball school got it in its mind to play football, and then broke all the rules to get to the top?"
12/7/2010 9:30:41 AM
Watching Marcus Dupree right now.Not as good as June 17th, 1994, but it's one of the top 5 best ones.BS does a podcast along with most of the films in the series and the last one came out yesterday. Apparently they're turning this into an ongoing feature, especially since a lot of the films commissioned for this didn't get finished in time (the Bartman one, most notably).
12/11/2010 9:20:28 AM
I recently finished Once Brothers and The Two Escobars. Both fantastic..
12/11/2010 9:47:26 AM
Two Escobars is the best I've seen so far
12/13/2010 7:41:32 AM
still haven't seen june 17 but have been very eager to see it for quite some time. once brothers has been one of my favorites for sure. can't wait for the gift pack.
12/13/2010 8:06:27 AM
I was excited to see the SMU film, but my DVR recorded two hours of NBA highlights
12/13/2010 8:56:30 AM
^yeah, I meant to record that myself. I wonder when these will be released on DVD (and what outrageous charge they will be asking for them)
12/13/2010 9:01:03 AM
^ the link to the first 15 is on this page and it's not outrageous at all.I don't see any reason the other 15 would be any different
12/13/2010 9:18:37 AM
^^^Its reairing a bunch this week...tonight on ESPNU, Wednesday night on ESPN2 (if youre like me and unfortunate enough to not have ESPNUHD). A lot of these are reairing around Christmas, if you missed any: http://30for30.espn.com/schedule.html
12/13/2010 11:33:36 AM
Yeah, I've got the DVR set to record all airingsBut 9/10 times I end up with some bullshit like whatever NBA show I got instead of the SMU oneI guess live events screw with ESPN's lineup more than I realized]
12/13/2010 11:42:34 AM
waiting for it to show up on youtube with most of the other ones, myself.
12/13/2010 2:34:41 PM
If you don't have ESPNU HD and have DTV, try accessing the channel not from the guide. I get the HD that way... shh don't tell
12/13/2010 4:29:38 PM
that is true, kim. listen to her, guys...it works.
12/13/2010 7:07:01 PM
started the box set tonight with "guru of go" powerful stuff.
12/26/2010 11:59:25 PM
Ones I liked the most (In no order):- Two Escobars (Could care less about soccer, but a very interesting story I was unaware of. Remember andres Escobar getting murdered, didn't know the story or connection with Pablo)- The 'U' (The best of them all)- The Band that Wouldn't Stop Playing - June 17th, 1994 (The way they did it was awesome...no narration, only clips)- Pony Excess (Just never knew what all went on, but always heard about 'the death penalty')Ones I thought were terrible or that I was dissapointed with- The Tupac/Mike Tyson One ('One Night in Vegas', I think?)- The Iverson one- Run Ricky RunI watched about 20-22 of them. The rest of them i could care less about and they just didn't interest me. The only one I wanted to see but missed was "The Greatest that Never Was" - The Marcus Dupree one. Haven't been able to catch a re-run of it[Edited on December 27, 2010 at 12:28 AM. Reason : ]
12/27/2010 12:13:40 AM
I think I've caught all of these now except for "June 17th, 1994." ESPN is showing it sometime this New Years though so I'll record it then. The majority of these were fun, interesting, and entertaining to watch; some of the less spectacular episodes contained sports facts that I had never known, footage I'd never seen, and thoughts and perspectives I'd never heard. My two favorites are "The Greatest that Never Was" and "The Guru of Go."
12/27/2010 2:19:06 PM
Once Brothers was incredible. That one tugged at my heart... Divac was clearly crushed by everything and the way it happened.
12/27/2010 2:54:56 PM
Four Days in October was the worstIt was like a shitty MLB Films presentation of a story everyone knows everything aboutNot sure how that even made the cut
12/27/2010 4:34:58 PM
^ you have no idea?
12/27/2010 4:35:53 PM
I enjoyed seeing Bill Simmons try to be cool by swearing every 5 seconds even when the situation didn't call for it
12/27/2010 4:36:12 PM
^^ What?^ I forgot about Simmons and whatshisface being cool in the bar every other sceneWhat a piece of shit film[Edited on December 27, 2010 at 4:40 PM. Reason : OH MAN I TOTALLY REMEMBA A ROD SLAPPIN DA GLOVE]
12/27/2010 4:36:17 PM
I'm sure Simmons' involvement was a big influence in that one being included
12/27/2010 4:37:20 PM
The Tupac/Tyson one was pretty weak. The connections were shaky at best.So Mike Tyson came out to "Amibitionz as a Ridah" and Suge Knight and Tupac hung out with him after fights. Other than that, what was the big deal?
12/27/2010 7:00:23 PM
^ that was easily the worst, imoJune 17th, 1994 was my favoritegotta love a film that is so good that you get so sucked in that you don't even think of the outcome although everybody knows the outcome
12/27/2010 7:11:31 PM
The Jimmy the Greek one was terrible, that posthumous narration gimmick was weird/creepy.[Edited on December 27, 2010 at 8:35 PM. Reason : .]
12/27/2010 8:34:41 PM
^I thought it was a great story, but you are right, the execution was pretty weird
12/27/2010 9:38:56 PM
The Tyson one was really bad. The story sucked, and wasn't that the one where they were doing the "Beat Poetry" narration style? That one was just all around terrible.
12/28/2010 12:25:54 AM
all of the baseball ones sucked the most.and the marion jones one.
12/28/2010 1:18:30 AM
Watched June 17, 1994 yesterdayThat was Chip Caray that made the OJ has 2-under at the US Open joke during the Mariners/Royals gameGod, I hate Chip Caray
1/3/2011 9:24:56 AM
I just noticed a bunch of them were on TWC on-demand. I watched Once Brothers last night... pretty good stuff
1/5/2011 2:13:11 PM
Ditto for Comcast. Although many of them are only available until Jan. 10.
1/5/2011 2:27:45 PM
Saw the Two Escobars last week. Awesome film. Best one I've seen so far, but I've only seen like 5-6.
1/5/2011 3:32:10 PM
I'm watching the Allen Iverson one now... didn't realize it was made by the guy who did Hoop Dreams. Should be good.
2/13/2011 8:52:49 PM
^^That one is really good, but overall most people I have talked to seem to think June 17, 1994 was the best.
2/14/2011 1:29:29 AM
Two Escobars was better
2/14/2011 8:01:38 AM
^, ^^Both were great....both in the top 3 for me. 'The U' was far and away the best. I also really liked "The Band that Wouldn't Die"[Edited on February 14, 2011 at 8:51 AM. Reason : ]
2/14/2011 8:43:37 AM
I almost cried watching Once Brothers- Jordan rides the bus was pretty good too, some guy at work told me he retired to play baseball because he bet on basketball, now I can educate him. Gonna watch June 17, 1994 now.[Edited on February 15, 2011 at 12:31 AM. Reason : .]
