i love him. he's the fucking best.kanye is 100% himself at all times, no matter how delusional, driven, and insane that may be. it's why his records are gleefully all over the place. it's why he can wear diamond masks and put jesus in his show and do synth pop ballad albums and sample richard james. the dude rules.

I'd like to go to a GWAR show but NOT get fake blood and vomit sprayed on me.
9/15/2014 11:20:54 AM
^^ Love his music, but he's still an insane prick.

geniuses at his level tend to be difficult/megalomanic it kind of comes with the territory

^hahahaoh that post; surprise of my life

I hear what he's saying in that sway interview, and don't wholly disagree with it.It is unfortunate that he chose the harshest and most ignorant way to get his point across. It makes the whole thing hard to listen to. And there is a really high signal to noise / substance to bullshit ratio that turns almost everyone off.
9/15/2014 1:15:39 PM
the main problem with his attitude is that he absorbs everything he hearsfor example, i don't think he reads what people say about him on the internet, but i think when someone asks about that in an interview, what he hears is "200 million people on the internet say they hate you" and what comes out in his response is an emotional reaction to that statement, even if it's not accurate/not applicable in the momenthe views typical celebrity bullshit as an earnest attack, and combined with the fact that he is indeed trying to do something larger with every facet of his art, he feels backed into a corner on behalf of his views and his art at all times
9/15/2014 1:23:35 PM
I will admit that I haven't seen that sway interview in a long time...since shortly after it happened, and can't remember all of the details. From what I remember though, he was saying:He is trying to go beyond just being a rapper.Which is true.Doing that through his art requires next level thinking, trend setting, and exploring new areas.Yep, that's also true. There's a lot of stress and criticism because of this that not many people experience.Yeah, duh.And in response to sway trying to offer constructive criticism he flew off the handle. But I think what he was trying to say was that sway just didn't understand what he was going through, and thus couldn't possible have the answers.Yeah, true.Again, I think he said all of this in the absolute worse way possible though.[Edited on September 15, 2014 at 1:36 PM. 9/15/2014 1:35:01 PM
so... how's he gone beyond it? that's all he's done.
9/15/2014 1:51:09 PM
A clothing line, and making music that isn't what most would consider rap in the traditional sense. Those are the examples that roll off the top of my head.
9/15/2014 2:08:52 PM
It's kinda weird to think Kanye is griping about 13 million, when Microsoft just spent $2.5 billion on mine craft. Facebook spent $19 billion on WhatsApp.
9/15/2014 2:09:49 PM
lol, last year I went to the Kanye and Kendrick Lamar concert. Kanye laid down on stage and bitched/sang about his problems for 25 minutes at one point. He was wearing a sparkly mask, and he lookedlike his breath stunk.

confirm/deny: he is the black male version of Lady Gaga(re: delusional narcissistic personality disorder, convinced that what they're doing is "art" in every sense of the word)
9/15/2014 2:52:40 PM
I fucking hate this dude and his rap blows.I'm Krallum and I approved this message.
9/15/2014 2:55:11 PM
^He's been around longer than Lady Gaga...so wouldn't she be the female version of Kanye?
9/15/2014 2:55:17 PM
Gaga isn't even in the same universe when it comes to her impact on music in general when compared to Kanye
9/15/2014 2:57:41 PM
what is his impact?
9/15/2014 2:58:16 PM
kanye makes great records. lady gaga does not.
9/15/2014 3:02:05 PM
^^ Drake doesn't become Drake if 808s and Heartbreak never comes out(and that's the Kanye album that most thought was a mis-step, yet it's been hugely influential)
9/15/2014 3:04:08 PM
At the very least, Kanye is an extremely prolific producer. He just doesn't yell out MIKE WILL MADE IT on every song for which he had production involvement.[Edited on September 15, 2014 at 3:08 PM. Reason : SWISS SWISS BEATS]
9/15/2014 3:05:03 PM
Is Lady Gaga still, like, a thing? Honest question.
9/15/2014 3:29:31 PM
She's on the cover of this week's Parade Magazine!
9/15/2014 3:38:11 PM
get back to me when she takes an instrument-less Justin Vernon vocal, a spoken-word piece from Gil Scott-Heron, and turns it into an absolutely epic jam[Edited on September 15, 2014 at 4:43 PM. Reason : .]

9/15/2014 5:22:25 PM
^^what is that?Speaking of, when will Bon Iver PLEASE put out a new album
9/15/2014 7:53:52 PM
He's talking about "Lost in the World."Repave came out last year, isn't that good enough?
9/15/2014 9:20:50 PM
ITT we learnt thegoodlife has different meanings for 'genius' and 'epic' than everyone else
9/15/2014 9:25:55 PM
I thought he was a gay fish?
9/15/2014 9:29:28 PM
yeah wow nice 5 year old recycled ad nauseum joke
9/15/2014 10:25:44 PM
so he unleashed on Sway because his clothing line didn't sell? I had no idea he even had a clothing line. Guess not everybody can make Sean John or Wu Wear or Rocawear.

http://rankings.gawker.com/kanye-west-album-tracks-ranked-1635086563/+laceydonohuegawker made a pretty shitty ranking of all kanye west's songs. how shitty, you may ask. this shitty:
9/16/2014 2:38:42 PM
it's been ripped apart all day, thankfully LOTS OF CLICKS, THOUGH
9/16/2014 2:48:30 PM
i mean...it's somebody's opinion of their favorite kanye songs. so i can't be too hard on them...but come on. "we major" being one of his worst and that damn "lost in the world" track being one of his best? really hard for me to respect that list and the writer of it.besides, any list that doesn't just outright rank all of 808s at the very bottom is a bad list imo.[Edited on September 16, 2014 at 3:03 PM. Reason : d]
9/16/2014 3:02:51 PM
That list lost me when "So Appalled" was ranked last.
9/16/2014 3:48:36 PM
"Flashing Lights" being as low as it is on that list is absurd, but it's just one dudes opinion, so meh
9/16/2014 4:19:11 PM
The deifying of this guy that some people are doing ITT is actually disturbing. You'd think that there actually was a god, and this guy was actually his son. Instead of him just being a talented rapper/producer/whatever.
9/16/2014 4:30:11 PM
deifying? disturbing?what???
9/16/2014 4:40:21 PM
Kanye will always be an enigma to me. I dont give damn about all these interviews nowadays. if you look back at his early interviews in his early career him being egotistical was the only thing that got him thru the door. Jay Z wanted no parts of him. It's funny to me now that he wants to be "beyond a rapper" cause earlier he wanted to be so bad to be a rapper. I thought at first he was hip hops messiah ( i know he thinks this) He was the bridge between underground afro centric rap and mainstream "bling bling" rap. Then something....happen...I think it was his mother's death. he drowned himself in alcohol and strippers. however I think "My twisted dark fantasy" is his best albumI still love his music despite him. Kanye pandora radio station is always on lock[Edited on September 16, 2014 at 4:48 PM. Reason : ,,]

9/16/2014 5:36:01 PM
rock stars have never dated/married celebrities before
9/16/2014 5:38:48 PM
^^I mean it's pretty perfect that the most unreasonably hated male celebrity is married to the most unreasonably hated female celebrity.
9/16/2014 5:41:21 PM
Is it not reasonable to "hate" someone for being a pompous asshole?I think he's really good at making beats, but that's about itHe's definitely not on the Beatles / James Brown level that some of you want to put him on as far as impacting music[Edited on September 16, 2014 at 5:46 PM. Reason : .]
9/16/2014 5:43:39 PM
we're in the middle of his run and he's already impacted contemporary music greatlythose artists full impact wasnt completely felt while they were in the middle of their runs, either
9/16/2014 5:49:13 PM
i hate full impact in the middle of the runs
