I want to know what these people are going to do when Obama actually does something.

I mean, it took an unprovoked war based on lies to really bring out the crazy on the left. What has Obama done so far? Cash for clunkers?

The problem with these people is they are afraid of imaginary things, just like they are trained to do as god-fearing christians. It isn't as much about wanting things currently to be different as it is about irrational fears of what could be. That's why they seem to have no coherent message.

I mean, yeah, some of these people are retarded. There are legitimate concerns one could have about what Obama (and congress) is doing. The trillions of dollars being spent is not going to cure the economy, it's going to make it much, much worse. Devaluation of the currency is already happening, and most of these spending measures haven't even begun to take effect yet. Obama's entire plan has been based off of the deluded Keynesian thinking that, at some unknown point, the trillions of dollars being "pumped" into the economy will have a long-term positive effect.

Of course, the political establishment doesn't speak in these terms. You won't hear many congressmen talking about inflation, and certainly not hyperinflation. Most republicans don't know why they're opposed to the spending, they just are. They were fine with ridiculous spending when it was for "protecting our freedoms." We're broke, and once the rest of the world stops financing our debt, we're going to be absolutely fucked.

Not really.

Here's the latest CPI report:

Quote :
" CONSUMER PRICE INDEX: JULY 2009

CPI for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U)

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) decreased
0.2 percent in July before seasonal adjustment, the Bureau of Labor
Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. Over the last
12 months the index has fallen 2.1 percent, as a 28.1 percent decline in
the energy index since its July 2008 peak has more than offset increases
of 0.9 percent in the food index and 1.5 percent in the index for all
items less food and energy.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the CPI-U was unchanged in July
following a 0.7 percent increase in June. Small declines in the food and
energy indexes offset a small increase in the index for all items less
food and energy. The food index declined 0.3 percent in July with all six
major grocery store food groups posting declines. The energy index, which
rose 7.4 percent in June, fell 0.4 percent in July. Decreases in the
indexes for gasoline, fuel oil, and electricity more than offset an
increase in the index for natural gas."

All while the discount rate is 0%.

Inflation is not nearly as great a threat as the recession.

That is partly because the banks are still sitting on the reserves of cash that were created last year.

Classic. Find me a renowned economist who DOESN'T think that the stimulus was at least neutral, if not completely necessary.

the thing that pisses me off the most as a republican is the lack of ideas from the right. all these retards hold up their big signs but dont provide any suggestions to fixing america's problems.

OMG socialism. OMG hitler is our president. we must take our country back. we can do that by voting out all democrats in 2010!!!

this image is soooo unabashedly racist, it's actually beyond offensive, and just funny to me.

and i love how there is not a grain of truth to it. it plays off the misinformation of death panels and illegal immigrant healthcare. i'm sure she is an ardent palin supporter and probably a joe wilson constituent.

man o man, this is just hilarious to me. THIS is what makes this dumb bitch protest.

financial collapse...hey, it happens

So, if a Repub makes a sign like "Bury Obamacare with Kennedy" (which is, of course, offensive and disgusting to any reasonable human being) the real truth is that someone really photoshopped all those images?

Right.

(I'm not saying it DOESN'T happen, there are enough blanks out there, it's just far too easy of a dismissal).

HERE OUR VOICE
HERE OUR VOICE

GET A BRAIN MORANS

i know you want to believe that this was strictly a protest in favor of the free market, but just like how left protests turn out being about gay rights/palestine/war/whatever, this one was as much just an amalgm of right wing causes ranging from "SHOW US THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE OBONGO" to "HANDS OFF MY MEDICARE" to "COMMIE CZARS" (don't turn around, oh uh oh).

Also, if you search tea party protests on flickr, you see a lot of the same sings over and over, so i don't know about your ps claims.

I think you probably have also seen many offensive and stupid signs waving about at liberal rallies.

I think it was more offensive watching David Axelrod on TV dismissing the protesters as being out of touch. I wonder what he would have said if that had been a pro-Obama crowd filling the Capitol mall this weekend.

I don't think outright racism is the primary motivator. I think it's the same stuff the right has been protesting against for decades, but now we an internet-savvy right; it's fanning the fire and creating more turnout and hyperbole than there would've been without the internet. The same goes for the left, but I'm more inclined to give credit to left-protesters as their causes more often appear altruistic.

However, I'm sure a significant portion of these 9-12 protesters believe Obama's policies will cater to blacks. After all, evangelical christian voters are used to politicians who don't reach across the isle, who don't look for common ground and who only appeal to their base. Because of their negative perception of blacks, I think this portion of protesters associates black policies with welfare, reparations, corruption, drugs and petty crime. Therefore, I think it's reasonable to say racism is a significant motivator in these protests.

It reminded me of when Obi Won and Anakin tried to force push one another while dueling on Mustafar. Only holding cardboard signs.

CPI is not a good measure of inflation. Inflation isn't just an increase in prices, it's the expansion of the money supply. Do you deny that we're printing a lot of money? Is that money backed by anything? If not, what do you think is going to happen to the value of the dollar?

Quote :
"That is partly because the banks are still sitting on the reserves of cash that were created last year."

Agreed.

Quote :
"Classic. Find me a renowned economist who DOESN'T think that the stimulus was at least neutral, if not completely necessary."

Wasn't there a huge list of economists that didn't want the stimulus? I mean, there are plenty of economists out there that voiced opposition to the stimulus. I have a feeling that, in the context of your statement, "renowned" is defined as "anyone that supported the stimulus."

If the root problem was excessive consumer and government debt, and it was, then the problem won't be solved by more debt. It may be true that the stimulus temporarily "saved" us from full fledged depression. The unfortunate reality is that a depression is going to take place either way. A depression is what was (and is) necessary to recovery. America spent money it didn't have for too long. The only solution is to cut back drastically, save money, and default on loans that can't be paid back.

i know these people. i worked construction for years in NC and the southeast, any "moran" union agitator will get their ass beat and run off the site, so that guy and his buds can continue to enjoy their god-given right to make $10-12.00/hr as a "journeyman"

working a good bit in construction myself, i've met a number of liberal northerners, who come down to north carolina for work, because their local northern economies have taken away their jobs, thanks to unionization
