I didn't say it looked real; I said pretty.

The premise may not be used in Sci-Fi movies very often, but its a tired formula.

Hopefully it will surprise us with some originality.

it looks like cameron thinks he is lucas, and can make an entire film in CGI over a green screen

hey, why don't you act like you're above it all someplace else?

I give a shit about the stuff I like. I want it to be done well and right.

I mean, I do forgive you. You are a pseudo-intellectual, so acting like you're above it all is all you really have. I guess I feel sad for you, more than anything.

Look people, James Cameron rarely comes in fucking up. In fact, I don't think he HAS come in and fucked up a movie.

He made the only 2 Terminator movies that were worth a fuck, the only Alien movie that was worth a fuck, and the highest grossing movie of all fucking time.

Avatar looks awesome. It's something original and looks like something that's had a lot of time, effort, and love put into it, which is sadly rare nowadays in regards to Hollywood films. I personally can't fucking wait to see this. It's even better that it's coming out on my birthday

I think the protagonist Na'vi looks like Robert Pattinson.

Also, I think James Camerson/Avatar:avid Lynch/Dune.

I saw the ad for this during the World Series last night, it was the first thing I had ever seen about this movie. I'm waaaaay out of the loop. I thought Avatar was going to be a movie about anime crap like Dragonball Z. I was way off.

Is the movie supposed to have a CGI/cartoony feel like Beowulf or did their CGI just not turn out very well? I was also under the impression that the story was unique. Person sees the world from the point of view of their enemy, then decides to fight for their cause. Hardly revolutionary. I must be missing something.

Edit: Sorry, haven't read the thread yet.

Avatar = (JC's CGI love child /w himself)

Avatar: The Last Airbender = (Movie by M. Night about the anime/cartoon television series on Nickelodeon)

I watched all of the Nick series. I actually really enjoyed it. If you like any type of anime it's hard not to. It's not anime in the truest sense of course, but it definitely has that feel to it.

This movie looks way too over-hyped. Just because James Cameron hid so much of it early on, then kept sucking his own dick talking about how it's a revolution in movies, getting the media behind his back, and already labeling it the greatest adventure of all time.

It is really starting to piss me off. I hate things that are all talk.

^^^^ I thought it also reminded me a lot of FernGully too:

Quote :
"...Crysta, the curious tree fairy, explores the world beyond Ferngully. She discovers Zak, a human who is helping to demolish the rainforest. Once Zak sees the beauty and magic of Ferngully, he vows to save it. But it may be too late. The diabolical Hexxus is on the loose and is intent on destroying all of Ferngully."

I guess the story isn't that unique but if he can pull off the 3-D CGI (which I've seen before) in a manner that is truly revolutionary then I'd be ecstatic. Maybe if the whole movie was in 3-D rather than certain parts that would be new to me; not really revolutionary though.

^im the opposite, the more i read about this the less interest i have

namely i though the technology was completely new, but it was used on spy kids 2
the story is not very interesting, and it seems more and more like some pet project cameron has had and it has not been made cause it sucks and he waited until his legacy was secure before making it

also i think he's trying to conceal the crappyness of the story with a technology spectacle,

it seems so very trite... cute aliens on a beautiful pristine world, evil humans just wanting something valuable. I think it's just Pocahontas Cameron style.

All the same I'll probably watch it b/c it looks pretty.

Looking forward to seeing this. I think it has great potential, but I am keeping my expectations grounded. I'll admit the story does seems hackneyed on first impression.

Here is where the hype comes from:

1. Original, HD 3-D, big money Sci-Fi flick with lots of fully CG characters.
2. James Cameron's first movie since Titanic.
3. Fox Studios advertising
4. Christmas Holiday Release
5. Accompanying video game is also a big production and has it's own advertising campaign

Read the article I linked.

This isn't just Michael Bay taking a bong hit and deciding to blow up another aircraft carrier in a scene. Cameron hired scientists to build a world and culture. The story might not be all that great, but the movie will definitely be interesting.

gonna be hard to get that one back but i guess since he made so much damn money on that stupid ass titantic movie, they will give him a pass

this is starting to look like waterworld
big budget, long filming, box office disaster
although it may still bring 3-D to the mainstream, which would actually raise ticket prices even more and make going to movies a special occasion

Like the article says, James Cameron made his fuck-you money on titanic, and this is his baby.

I'll certainly go see the dream project of the man that made Aliens, Terminator/T2, etc., despite my indifference toward the trailer.

lol he did more work on the planets indigenous species than Lucas ever thought of

granted Lucas didnt know what he was getting into at first and so most of it was afterthought to fit canon but Cameron did a lot more than what youll see in the movie.

i read the article in print when it arrived a few weeks back and it made me laugh to think that some mosquito is going to get 3 sec of air time and yet Lucas spent days creating its anatomy, diet, behavior, history, etc....

Unless they can explain why the aliens have humanoid body shapes, i see no reason to hold this to a higher standard, science-wise, than any other mainstream sci-fi action movie.

Why shouldn't they have a humanoid body shape?
