it looks like cameron thinks he is lucas, and can make an entire film in CGI over a green screen

DON'T THEY KNOW WHAT WE WANT IN SCI FI *waiiiiil*
10/30/2009 8:51:14 AM
lol the intro to the WS games has avatar juxtaposed? interesting
11/1/2009 8:01:30 PM
I have a feeling this is going to be some CGI showcase like the shitty new star wars movies
11/1/2009 8:06:34 PM
the ad campaign for this shit is already annoying as fuck
11/1/2009 8:08:21 PM
^^^^hey, why don't you act like you're above it all someplace else?I give a shit about the stuff I like. I want it to be done well and right.I mean, I do forgive you. You are a pseudo-intellectual, so acting like you're above it all is all you really have. I guess I feel sad for you, more than anything.[Edited on November 1, 2009 at 8:09 PM. Reason : .]

11/1/2009 11:04:23 PM
sir, if this is your idea of a troll, I say GGGG, sir
11/1/2009 11:15:29 PM
Look people, James Cameron rarely comes in fucking up. In fact, I don't think he HAS come in and fucked up a movie. He made the only 2 Terminator movies that were worth a fuck, the only Alien movie that was worth a fuck, and the highest grossing movie of all fucking time.Avatar looks awesome. It's something original and looks like something that's had a lot of time, effort, and love put into it, which is sadly rare nowadays in regards to Hollywood films. I personally can't fucking wait to see this. It's even better that it's coming out on my birthday
11/2/2009 4:16:00 AM
FernGully is not a Disney movie.
11/2/2009 4:27:16 AM
I think the protagonist Na'vi looks like Robert Pattinson.Also, I think James Camerson/Avatar:avid Lynch/Dune.
11/2/2009 4:32:42 AM
I saw the ad for this during the World Series last night, it was the first thing I had ever seen about this movie. I'm waaaaay out of the loop. I thought Avatar was going to be a movie about anime crap like Dragonball Z. I was way off. Is the movie supposed to have a CGI/cartoony feel like Beowulf or did their CGI just not turn out very well? I was also under the impression that the story was unique. Person sees the world from the point of view of their enemy, then decides to fight for their cause. Hardly revolutionary. I must be missing something.Edit: Sorry, haven't read the thread yet.[Edited on November 2, 2009 at 8:24 AM. Reason : -]

Avatar = (JC's CGI love child /w himself)Avatar: The Last Airbender = (Movie by M. Night about the anime/cartoon television series on Nickelodeon)I watched all of the Nick series. I actually really enjoyed it. If you like any type of anime it's hard not to. It's not anime in the truest sense of course, but it definitely has that feel to it.

This reminds me a LOT of the movie that just came out "The battle for Terra"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plyRYrqa_4g[Edited on November 2, 2009 at 10:47 AM. Reason : ]

did anyone see that? I wanted to but it kinda came and went without much noise
11/2/2009 10:48:57 AM
^ i saw it and I thought it was decent.
11/2/2009 11:11:01 AM
This movie looks way too over-hyped. Just because James Cameron hid so much of it early on, then kept sucking his own dick talking about how it's a revolution in movies, getting the media behind his back, and already labeling it the greatest adventure of all time.It is really starting to piss me off. I hate things that are all talk.
11/29/2009 5:21:15 PM
^^^^ I thought it also reminded me a lot of FernGully too:

I wasn't all that interested in seeing this before, but that story at least made me curious about it. I might check this out.
12/1/2009 2:27:00 PM
zero interest in this movie
12/1/2009 2:28:55 PM
I guess the story isn't that unique but if he can pull off the 3-D CGI (which I've seen before) in a manner that is truly revolutionary then I'd be ecstatic. Maybe if the whole movie was in 3-D rather than certain parts that would be new to me; not really revolutionary though.
12/2/2009 12:10:40 AM
movie is in all 3DCOME SEE IT AT IMAXThey also built a special 3D camera just for this movie.
12/2/2009 12:35:05 AM
I had little to no interest in seeing this movie... after reading that article I can't wait to see it. I'm almost as pumped to see this as Dark Knight... almost
12/2/2009 1:05:59 AM
^im the opposite, the more i read about this the less interest i havenamely i though the technology was completely new, but it was used on spy kids 2the story is not very interesting, and it seems more and more like some pet project cameron has had and it has not been made cause it sucks and he waited until his legacy was secure before making italso i think he's trying to conceal the crappyness of the story with a technology spectacle,
12/2/2009 1:40:19 AM
I haven't been following this as much lately, but I trust Cameron will not produce a shitty movie, though this could be following in the footsteps of the Watchmen...
12/2/2009 8:40:48 AM
I am just not feeling this one. I can't understand the hype or the following.Big letdown looming.
12/2/2009 8:47:09 AM
it seems so very trite... cute aliens on a beautiful pristine world, evil humans just wanting something valuable. I think it's just Pocahontas Cameron style. All the same I'll probably watch it b/c it looks pretty.
12/2/2009 9:19:34 AM
^ thats what makes me really want to see this. I could really care less about the story
12/2/2009 12:46:57 PM
12/2/2009 1:07:42 PM
Looking forward to seeing this. I think it has great potential, but I am keeping my expectations grounded. I'll admit the story does seems hackneyed on first impression.
12/2/2009 1:28:43 PM
Here is where the hype comes from:1. Original, HD 3-D, big money Sci-Fi flick with lots of fully CG characters.2. James Cameron's first movie since Titanic.3. Fox Studios advertising4. Christmas Holiday Release5. Accompanying video game is also a big production and has it's own advertising campaign
12/2/2009 1:48:36 PM
Read the article I linked. This isn't just Michael Bay taking a bong hit and deciding to blow up another aircraft carrier in a scene. Cameron hired scientists to build a world and culture. The story might not be all that great, but the movie will definitely be interesting.
12/2/2009 1:59:41 PM
I hope they aren't the same 'scientists' that helped on The Day After Tomorrow
12/2/2009 2:02:36 PM
i read somewhere that this film had a 300 mil budgetgonna be hard to get that one back but i guess since he made so much damn money on that stupid ass titantic movie, they will give him a pass
12/2/2009 2:11:27 PM
I don't know Lokken, maybe you should read the article.
12/2/2009 2:16:48 PM
this is starting to look like waterworldbig budget, long filming, box office disasteralthough it may still bring 3-D to the mainstream, which would actually raise ticket prices even more and make going to movies a special occasion
12/2/2009 2:18:15 PM
Like the article says, James Cameron made his fuck-you money on titanic, and this is his baby.I'll certainly go see the dream project of the man that made Aliens, Terminator/T2, etc., despite my indifference toward the trailer.
12/2/2009 2:21:11 PM
lol he did more work on the planets indigenous species than Lucas ever thought ofgranted Lucas didnt know what he was getting into at first and so most of it was afterthought to fit canon but Cameron did a lot more than what youll see in the movie. i read the article in print when it arrived a few weeks back and it made me laugh to think that some mosquito is going to get 3 sec of air time and yet Lucas spent days creating its anatomy, diet, behavior, history, etc....
12/2/2009 2:25:37 PM
Lucas used hundreds of alien races. Cameron created one.
12/2/2009 2:31:23 PM
12/2/2009 2:33:20 PM
Why shouldn't they have a humanoid body shape?Just because something is unlikely doesn't make it implausible.
12/2/2009 2:35:50 PM
^^Blue skin, pointy ears and tails not kinky enough for you?
12/2/2009 2:42:52 PM
science-wise, who gives a shitThey're humanoid so that the paraplegic can walk via his avatar.
