9/25/2009 9:09:27 PM
one thing that makes me sad about this thread is that i can't enjoy some of the local/regional brews that i tasted in NC. i need to find some delicious texan replacements.

Guinness turned 250 yesterday!

I had some White Wolf at a brewpub in downtown Wilmington a few months back. Now every time I go to a bar I ask for it and they never have it. Is it more common in Raleigh bars?
9/25/2009 9:43:43 PM
white wolf is mediocre at best, can't think of a single place in Raleigh that carries it on draft...Front Street is good, but check out Cape Fear Wine and Beer - great beer store that also has beer on draft for in-house consumption
9/26/2009 12:03:16 AM
my housemate is making beer.made the whole house smell like shit today.then he grilled on the porch a few hours ago.made the whole house smell like more shit.

been drinking Rare Vos lately, its pretty good, has sort of spicy/pumpkin ale type taste.
9/26/2009 3:43:21 AM
Anyone had St. Bernardus? I grabbed a mix six and i'm quite pleased. Also grabbed New Belgium's Hoptober, a case of Dogfish Punkin' and a 22oz of another Weyerbacher-esque pumpkin that I forget the name of. A++They had some random brew from N.B. as well but I totally spaced out and forgot to grab it at the end. It was some of their Lips of Faith series.
9/26/2009 5:57:54 PM
i'm just trying this mothership wit stuff for the first time, it's pretty damn mediocre for the price--i'd rather have sam adams
9/26/2009 8:08:38 PM
funny, I opened this thread to post that I'm drinking a Mothership Wit right now. I think it's pretty good stuff, although the bottle I'm drinking now seems significantly less spicy than I remembered it being when I had it on tap.I had a Shocktop the other day. Too fruity. It wasn't awful or anything, but I'm in no hurry to try it again.
9/26/2009 8:42:18 PM
maybe it's just the bottles, because it tastes pretty bland to me too
9/26/2009 8:43:51 PM
Yeah, this bottle is more fruity and less spicy than I remember, and it was only about a month ago that I had it on tap.

I had a glass of Stone's 09.09.09 Vertical Epic porter tonight... delicious!http://www.stonebrew.com/epic/Wc6297b16717fd.htmAlso had some Dragoon's Dry Irish Stout, which was also pretty good, but not as good as the Stone.http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/870/44186[Edited on September 27, 2009 at 2:41 AM. I have a 6-pack of Harvest Time but can't touch it for a couple more days.
9/30/2009 12:09:46 AM
I wish we could get Harvest Time , I've tried New Holland, DF, Smuttynose, Post Road, Cottonwood, but no Big Boss
9/30/2009 12:12:10 AM
I was surprised to find Big Boss in Tryon, but then we crossed into Landrum and no Big Boss
9/30/2009 12:15:44 AM
that wild blue shit is TERRIBLE
9/30/2009 1:11:35 AM
i had my first pumpkin beer last night at the times, new holland ichabod ale. i thought it was pretty good, but i am going to have to try some other pumpkin beers before i can say for surealso, my friend had this dogfish head palo santo marron, which tasted like fingernail polish remover to me [Edited on September 30, 2009 at 2:29 AM. 10/8/2009 6:29:10 PM
Just finished a Bison Brewing Honey and Basil Ale...man that was good. Now working on a Founders Harvest Ale; I have yet to be disappointed from anything made by Founders.
10/8/2009 7:25:04 PM
wish I had something here other than Busch Light.
10/8/2009 8:36:27 PM
beer is my favorite chaser.
10/8/2009 9:00:11 PM
Just picked up sixers of these:The pumpkinhead has very little pumpkin flavor, but its very smooth.[Edited on October 8, 2009 at 9:10 PM. Reason : Wanted Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin but they didn't have it.]
10/8/2009 9:07:27 PM
just cracked a Weyerbacher Harvest Ale...I really want to drink the Founders Breakfast Stout
10/8/2009 9:13:15 PM
i can honestly say that the Shipyard pumpkin is one of the worst pumpkin beers i've ever had. i bought a six pack last year and threw 4 of them away after they sat in the fridge for a couple months. i couldn't even give them away. (just my opinion though. )now Weyerbacher... that's another story.[Edited on October 8, 2009 at 9:16 PM. Reason : k]
10/8/2009 9:15:51 PM
I dont think its bad, just hardly any pumpkin flavor. Ill probably drink them, but wont buy again.
