nerds ITT

I played at a sealed ptq here in austin for the first time in like, 14 years. Got 16th Games seems more enjoyable now than it did in the late 90's. The card shop here is an older crowd (20-40) and they allow beer. Maybe I'll play again, not sure.
2/1/2013 3:25:13 PM
You obviously haven't played with my group. I dig graves for people like you.
2/1/2013 4:29:40 PM
Theyve changed the rules so much since I "quit" I dunno if I could get back in. I quit about 5 years ago, right after mirrorden came out. Still have all my cards though.
2/3/2013 8:59:52 AM
for any nerds that play the Xbox version, I am playing the Planeswalkers 2013, there's a card called Cathedral of war and everytime it gets tapped it supposed to add one piece of Mana to your count but it does not seem to work anytime I use it.any ideas?
10/3/2013 9:35:41 PM
Nevermind, I guess it adds "1" mana when tapped, but it simply means it is doing it as a land itself, not continually building up extra mana
10/4/2013 1:19:02 PM
anyone have some olderish cards theyre tryin to get rid of??
10/4/2013 9:38:34 PM
if you like day[9] or geek and sundry on youtube, he has a new weekly magic show where he plays his friends 1 game a week in magic. pretty amusing
10/4/2013 10:00:39 PM
^ It's OK, but I feel like day9 tries way too hard to be funny sometimes.
10/4/2013 11:37:14 PM
Bunch of friends and I started playing this again out of nowhere about 3 months ago. One night while out drinking over the summer, we each realized that we had a box of old-ass cards from the 90s that we hadn't touched in over a decade and decided it'd be fun to dust them off and try playing again. A week later, after a drunken evening of butchering the rules and hilarious games we decided to make it a "thing" and have been playing every 3 weeks ever since. Even went out and got some Core 14 (and Theros when it came out the other week), and brushed up on rules and whatnot. It may be the nerdiest, dorkiest thing on the planet but it's a shit-ton of fun
10/5/2013 8:41:43 AM
^where you guys normally play? i have some decks and shit. with some older cards mixed with newer ones.
10/5/2013 11:16:20 AM
I still kick myself for getting rid of all my old cards

On a whim I went to a Theros pre-release event the other weekend. Aside from the fact that I knew no one, and I haven't really played the game in10 years I had fun. I like the draft set up that they had, interesting way to keep the playing field kind of level. I wound up breaking even in my win/loss. Would play again.Went to GameTheory in Raleigh. Pretty cool set up, big place, nice people.

Heh, maybe to some? My goals, in order, are usually: have fun, and then win lots. Aggravating my opponent is only fun if I'm playing friends, but it's icing on the cake. One of my buddies I play with goes up to Game Theory in Pleasant Valley regularly to play drafts. I usually buy my stuff from Gamer's Armory in Cary by the mall. I think they do draft nights as well. Finally figured out how a draft works and I found a good draft simulator: http://draft.bestiaire.org/

So I feel real dumb for not knowing this existed, but I've been doing this to scratch the itch and not really spend any money.I have a ton of old CCGs lying around as backers, so I only had to invest in some card sleeves and I've been printing proxies of anything I want.http://andyrut.com/proxies/Basically get any card/deck list in txt format, dump it here and you can print out a whole list of cards.

is there a good mobile magic game ? I've been playing shadow era a bit, but i wasn't sure if there was a magic game as well.

I was going to go grab a box, but I'm hooked on Hearthstone now so it looks like I'm going to be sitting another MTG set out :/
1/31/2014 11:14:30 PM
Just finished up at pre-release. Did better than expected with a Gruul deck. Like this block a lot.
2/1/2014 4:56:52 AM
Chose the black box, played green/white with 1 removal spell Went 2-1-1 for 3 packs, Polukranos ate some worlds

2/24/2014 3:17:54 PM

3/26/2014 10:42:32 AM
Love tappedout.netJust wish the community would comment more on deckshere is one of the decks I'm running around with: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/golgari-life-drain-1/I really like how tappedout lets you "play" with the deck some to get a feel for what the draw is like. Big fan. [Edited on March 26, 2014 at 2:52 PM. Reason : .]

Sold my MTG collection again.
3/27/2014 1:52:40 AM
Get good money for it? I just finished building a pauper cube. Pretty psyched to try it out with my kitchen table crowd.
3/27/2014 9:03:06 AM
Sayer, just play tested your deck. Pretty fun. Lotta good cards in that deck. I really like that 2 cost that brings a permanent from your graveyard to your hand. I've seen many variants of that for 4 cost.
3/27/2014 12:23:24 PM
Thanks dude!Yeah I love Nature's Spiral, it's a better utility card than most black cards that leverage the graveyard.

Journey into Nyx pre-release event is this Friday night. Some pretty ridiculous cards in this set..
4/22/2014 5:18:36 PM
4/23/2014 11:46:22 AM
Wow that's really awesome of you. I can easily see the appeal of helping out a good group of people vs doing all that work yourself. I'd probably make the same choice, as the headache involved with selling them myself would be massive.
4/23/2014 12:46:09 PM
I gave my collection to someone here on TWW. Don't remember who.I just had to get it out of my house asap before it sucked me back in.
4/23/2014 12:59:22 PM
for future reference, if anyone here is looking to get rid of some cards, hit me up first!
4/23/2014 8:32:16 PM
Yeah, ditto. I'll happily look at anything you want to get rid of.
4/24/2014 8:30:20 AM
I have thousands of cards somewhere. Most recent set is Weatherlight but it goes back pretty far. Tons of rares in a folder, too. I need to locate them.

no luck on finding the lot of my cards, but I did find my old deck! I've actually been looking for it for over a year when I found out my friends play. I don't think it's been beaten back in the day, but this was like 4th-6th grade where I played a lot, but in that time I'm not sure it was a tournament legal deck as far as mixing sets. It's an all red burn deck with tons of instant damage.I'm not sure about what the current rules are as far as sets?I think it's about 52 cards (I remember 60 being the limit?) and it goes from limited-weatherlight mostly but there might be one tempest in there. What's tournament/play legal and where do people play in Raleigh now?[Edited on June 24, 2014 at 10:56 PM. Reason : .]

Those old, pre-modern decks can be a lot of fun. If you find old cards definitely hang on to them. Here is a list of current formats of play:http://magic.wizards.com/en/game-info/gameplay/rules-and-formats/formatsYour old deck would likely only be Vintage legal if it was a sanctioned event. You can play it casually of course. Good stores in the area:Game Theory - Pleasant Valleyhttp://www.gametheorystore.com/Endless Gaming - Across from Meredithhttp://endlessgaming.net/Event Horizon - Garnerhttp://eventhorizongames.com/Gamer's Armory - Caryhttp://www.gamersarmory.com/They all have schedules posted online and host MTG events regularly. If you've never done a Draft before you should give that a try, it's a lot of fun. You can find a link explaining the rules on that Formats page.

cool, looks like I'm legal for Vintage if I add a few more cards. I think I have 52 in my deck. I've got a ton of old rares somewhere at my parents. They claim they didn't throw them out but I've looked all over for them. The last place they could be is the attic, but that's a fucking labyrinth. I'm having trouble figuring out what edition or set mine are from. I don't have a roman numeral or any marking to show rarity on mine. I don't know if they reprinted Weatherlight and the others but I have a lot of original Homelands, Ice Age, Visions, Mirage, and Weatherlight. I also have some limited, unlimited, revised, and fifth edition (?) cards. I started when Weatherlight came out but you could still buy Mirage, Homelands and Ice Age. I have a few random cards from Legends, the Dark, and Arabian Nights. I've gotta have at least 1500 cards
6/25/2014 12:42:43 PM
you could potentially be sitting on a gold mine.
6/25/2014 2:09:47 PM
yeah, you could potentially be sitting on a gold minehttp://tcgplayer.com in your free time and look up your stuff. You may be surprised to see what it's worth.

6/25/2014 10:28:01 PM
On that list I have everything form Weatherlight down. I have maybe just a handful of Dark/Legends/Arabian Nights. I have a good bit of revised/limited/unlimited. I don't have any alpha or beta, unfortunately. I know I have a lot of homelands/ice age/mirage/visions. I remember that I have a Phyrexian Drednaught, Jesters Cap, at least two Autumn Willows, Revised Royal Assassin, etc.I spent another 30 minutes or so looking for my cards and they haven't turned up yet. I did, however, find a box of 90s NBA cards and a Les Robinson NCSU card (lol) as well as a bunch of Pogs [Edited on June 26, 2014 at 11:19 AM. Reason : .]

Been sifting through and selling off chunks these past two years. Made around $500 total so far. Pickings are getting slim at this point though.I have all ~10,000 in my collection logged in Excel, with condition as well.
6/26/2014 2:54:21 PM
i should look through my old cards to see if i have any worth selling.a dog ate most of them though :/
