I still can't get over how stupid the Hossa deal is. I can only assume Rod Blagojevich set it up.
7/3/2009 4:38:50 PM
please elaborate?[Edited on July 3, 2009 at 5:22 PM. Reason : beyond the fact that DiPietro thinks its kinda long]
7/3/2009 5:22:30 PM
JESUS CHRISTim rich bitch show rick nash yo titties

Ryan Smyth to Los Angeles for D Kyle Quincey, D Tom Priessing and a 5th round pick
7/3/2009 11:35:02 PM
The Hossa deal, other than being insanely long, is actually pretty interesting.12 years, $62.8 million.Averaged out, that's $5.2 million per year, so that's the hit to the salary cap every year. But the thing is so insanely front-loaded that it plays all sorts of funny games with their numbers.$7.9 million each of the first seven years of the deal. $4 million in his eighth year. $1 million each of his ninth and tenth years. $750,000 each for his eleventh and twelfth years. So really, they are paying him what he's worth (perhaps) for a few years, while he's still going to be good, but his contribution to the salary cap is $2.7 million less than his actual salary. Then when he gets old and crappy and they don't want him on the team anymore, they can sit his ass up in the press box and only have to pay him $1 million or less.So they can get away with cheating the salary cap at the same time as not being punished when he gets too old to play but is still on contract. And Hossa doesn't care; he's making too much money to care.Very sneaky of them. Better hope he doesn't get injured or start to suck.
7/3/2009 11:37:00 PM
When he is old and broken down they can trade him to a team like Carolina who would be thrilled to have a player like him for only $1 million, and the cap hit is irrelevant because they don't spend to the cap anyway.
7/3/2009 11:39:38 PM
i wouldn't mind having hossa as our peter bondra in 2017
7/4/2009 9:01:12 AM
this blackhawks thing is hilarious, their offers to RFAs were mailed too close to Canada Day and didn't arrive on timethey could potentially lose versteeg and barker as accidental UFAshttp://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=283730

So the Flyers signed Pronger to a 7 year extension at $5 million cap hit a year. Since the contract kicks in after he turns 35, that means even if he retires the money goes against their salary cap. Therefore they have to hope Pronger plays until he is 42.
7/7/2009 6:12:44 PM
I have no idea what my flyers are doing.. Biron wasn't that bad imho. Really Emery?(doesn't he cry about going to practice?) and Boucher(REALLY? I had Nabokov on my fantasy so I would notice when Boucher played and he didn't impress me in the least). Pronger is actually the one I don't really mind(yea yea call us a goonsquad, whatev).
7/7/2009 6:35:25 PM
There's a little sentiment for Boucher in Philly because they drafted him originally, plus you can always argue that he has the longest shutout streak in the modern era (one of those games was in Raleigh). Emery is a mess, and I don't just mean his attitude. He's large and athletic, but also lazy in his movement and resistant to change (surprise!). It's obvious that Philly have resigned themselves to the fact that until they get a bonafide franchise goaltender, everyone is going to be a stopgap. It's been that way since Hextall, and I think they've finally accepted it. ]

Jiri Hudler is apparently leaving the Wings to sign with Dynamo Moscow
7/8/2009 1:24:15 PM
they are not allowing him, the nhl that is
7/11/2009 7:33:13 PM
There's not really a damn thing the NHL can do about it unless the KHL cooperates.
7/12/2009 12:48:16 AM
I thought that the Russian League thing wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I remember reading an interview with Jagr about Avery that time but they asked if he was coming back since the KHL was garbage. Maybe it's gotten better. I just can't see why someone would leave the NHL making $Stanley to go freeze in Siberia.
7/12/2009 1:12:27 AM
The KHL sucks balls, but all of the teams are owned by oil tycoon billionaires. A player who makes $750k in the NHL can go to the KHL and make $5 million. Plus, for the guys who are from Russia or Eastern Europe originally, it's a chance to return home.

New Jersey:OUT Brent SutterIN Jacques LemaireI am not sure how I feel about this. At least I did well in picking the Devils as my team as they are true to my ethos with their commitment to recycling!

Haha. I'll take it. I, for one, never minded the trap system. I love defensive hockey because it makes goals actually mean something. Although losing Johnny Madden really hurts in terms of defensive offensemen.

Kovalchuk to become the highest paid player???A Russian news outlet is reporting that he is going to re-sign with Atlanta at $11.36 million a year, which is the maximum under the current cap. Ovechkin is at $9 million and Crosby at $8.7.
7/22/2009 12:45:27 PM
Atlanta would be retarded to throw that much cash Kovy's way. Then again, it would keep their streak of god-awful front office moves alive.
7/22/2009 2:17:59 PM
Sweet Baby Jesusaurus Rex!!!!!! Travis Zajac resigned with the Devils!!!!!
7/22/2009 4:19:20 PM
