10 years.....? that's kind of crazy. Probably a good amount of escape clauses in it
7/29/2009 1:00:59 PM
yeah 10 years is retarded in this age
7/29/2009 1:19:13 PM
i use bing ONLY for cash backhttp://www.bing.com/cashback

^
7/29/2009 3:41:57 PM
haha...i just check a company first and then go through the cashback link (i've done sears and newegg most recently)
7/29/2009 5:14:33 PM
^yep. I use Bing for cashback and travel. It's one of the best aggregators (other than farecompare) to be able to look at all flights FROM one place. All the major travel sites require you to pick destination and origin to look for deals, which is a pain in the ass for me.Too bad they don't push the travel stuff more prominently in the navigation, it's one of the best features on bing (and way way more useful than their maps)News search has steadily improved over the past month too. I accidentally did a current event search on bing today (mean't to be on google) and it came back with exactly what I was looking for. Needless to say I was pretty suprised. Also, image search is 100000000 times better on Chrome, which I finally tried out at home. IE8 is such garbage
7/29/2009 8:59:32 PM
need to get on this cashback thing... sadly haven't done it yet

i really just don't trust microsoft. all the faith i have in google scares me sometimes, but i will never have faith in M$. i still really don't like that you're forced to have background images and whatnot.
8/6/2009 11:38:48 AM
Holy shit you used a dollar sign instead of 'S'. I get it! That's hilarious!
8/6/2009 11:52:23 AM
i always do. what is your point?
8/6/2009 12:02:00 PM
M$ = MicrosoftMS = Multiple SclerosisI suppose you could call them synonyms but ...
8/6/2009 12:50:33 PM
8/6/2009 12:57:09 PM
i don't give a shit. i will continue to use M$. i'm not using it to be funny... i had no idea you people get so worked up over little crap like dollar signs.^^hey! there we go. that's a good reason. and i have MG, which is another disease in the muscular dystrophy category too. so yeah that's why i use $ [Edited on August 6, 2009 at 1:29 PM. Still using both. Bing has lately been delivering MUCH better results than Google.Mostly the difference has been that Bing cuts out the 20+% of spam results that always seem to permeate google. And the news search has improved, but still not anywhere near google's.

^^ I was look for code and reference samples for the DSL platform in Visual Studio.Putting DSL into google (even with a lot of modifiers: geometry, gradients, fills, shapes etc) yields a lot of not-very-safe-for-work results, and quite a bit of general spam results.Generally I'd fine 2-3 valid hits on Bing, and 1-2 on Google.
8/6/2009 9:16:43 PM
8/6/2009 9:18:02 PM
^33% improvement is MUCH better.

i just searched google for "visual studio dsl" and didn't get any nsfw sites. i got things like msdn, channel9, informit, amazon, codeproject and a couple other sites geared specifically to DSLs.if you searched google for just dsl, then yeah given that context, probably the most relevant results would be adult-oriented.
8/6/2009 9:36:27 PM
noen, your reading comprehension skills aren't so great. i didn't say i didn't trust them BECAUSE they have a background image. i said i didn't trust them. i also said i didn't like having a background image. two separate statements. there was a period at the end of those sentences.it doesn't matter anyway. i had no idea there were so many microsoft fanbois here. i'm surprised.
8/6/2009 10:05:28 PM
it's not that they are fanbois. it's that using M$ fell out of style long ago

Hey Noen, where did that data on Hyper-V market share come from? Did Mr. Turner tell you yet? Has he told anyone yet? Who told him?Do you think that might be a reason that people don't trust them? When is the release coming stating Bing! has gained 24 points against a very, very formidable competitor?Who was passing out these at VMworld last year when I attended? http://www.ntpro.nl/blog/uploads/full01.jpgJust ask our customers. Just list them so we can, hahahaha.Where does http://www.vmwarecostswaytoomuch.com go? Click it. If you just so happened to be a CIO or any person responsible for researching server or desktop virtualization at (pick your favorite company), would you trust Microsoft? You're a Goober dude. Get a clue. [Edited on August 7, 2009 at 10:29 PM. Reason : a]

I just researched further, 32% of my company's revenue last year was directly related to MS products, namely shitty SharePoint and the need for development training. I take back any posts in this thread, your shitty products keep my wife farting through silk. PS I won't make a dime off Hyper-V though, hence my bitterness towards your virtualization product. Thanks to VMware, I'll be retiring at 31

anybody still using bing regularly?btw, it's down right now. oops.
12/3/2009 9:47:33 PM
nope. gave up on it after seeing consistently better results from google. sad, it coulda bena contenda.
12/3/2009 9:57:15 PM
12/3/2009 10:07:33 PM
i might try bing to see what alternative results it returns, if google really, really isn't cutting it. but frankly it's easier for me to refine my google search than it is to start over on another engine.
12/3/2009 10:15:22 PM
I really wanted to like Bing. I'm a ASP.NET/SQL Server guy, run Microsoft OS's on all my systems, like all the Sliverlight stuff and kinda dug their image search for a while, but google returns MUCH more accurate results, which is what it's all about.
12/3/2009 10:48:44 PM
on the other hand, Bing's homepage is freakin' sweet. photos with random little facts scattered about is actually pretty cool, imho
12/3/2009 10:50:18 PM
accurate search results >> shiny stuff
12/3/2009 10:51:40 PM
notice that i didn't disagree with you.
12/3/2009 10:53:44 PM
ive switched all of my home searches to bing and havent noticed a bit of difference in quality results.
12/3/2009 11:06:53 PM
I use both. The results are, (for my searches) damn near identical. Still use Google for anything news/current event related though.I actually REALLY like the new maps beta overall. It's painfully slow to load, but the "nearby" features and streetview is way better than google maps, which are a large part of why I use google maps today. Google's "local" features never worked very well for me, so Bing wins me over there.I've been pretty letdown with bing travel though. It was promising when it launched, but they haven't really done anything else to it since... you have to wade through a bunch of inconsistent UI and popups to really look for any fares
12/7/2009 12:45:51 AM
I use bing for one and only one reason:Total cashback $95.31
12/7/2009 1:08:19 AM
maybe it has changed some. When it first came out, I ran a slew of searches on both search engines and Google had my stop in the top 2 suggested links every time and Bing sometimes didn't even have it on the first page.[Edited on December 7, 2009 at 8:40 AM. Reason : ]
12/7/2009 8:39:36 AM
^It has. A month or so after launch, the search results became almost indistinguishable. Now I very rarely see any difference, even in the ordering. The real advantage is for non-technical things, Bing's categories and added context add a lot that I wouldn't otherwise see.Just wish they indexed news as well
12/8/2009 4:26:53 PM
they need to do a TON of work on the "did you mean" code.
12/8/2009 10:28:23 PM

I agree. I also couldnt find what I was looking for on bing. I feel I have shaped my search strings around expected google results for too long .
