^ I can be there...no league games this weekend due to holiday. Do we need to call ahead and get on a list or something?
5/22/2009 7:00:14 PM
I might be down but i'd have to buy a helmet/stick/gloves which i'm not sure i'm ready to do quite yet. (unless anyone knows of any sales going on)as far as skill level its hard to say. i played from 5th to 10th grade and played up an age group a couple seasons on the travel team but was pretty average in that setting. i taught lessons and coached a bit in highschool but that was almost 7 years ago. i would imagine i'd be pretty solid with a bit of ice time. i played center growing up but i have 0 confidence in my ability to win a faceoff and therefore would prefer to play wing.anyone up for a public skating session tonight or tomorrow? (no homo)

What time is the Factory pickup on Sunday? I have to DJ later on that night.
5/22/2009 8:32:10 PM
9:00-10:30

If ya'll are serious about getting a team together and playing ASAP, Iceplex is starting summer league (12 weeks) June 10th (deposit due the 1st).I think its the best ice in Raleigh (perhaps second to Wake Forest). Great atmosphere, Russ (manager) can be kind of a dick though.PM me if you have any questions, I've been playing in the area from Learn-to-Play through upper-C since moving here.
5/23/2009 12:06:51 AM
The ice better be good over there. It's so fucking big if it were sloppy you'd be dead after 30 second shifts.
5/23/2009 1:13:00 AM
haha, true. I like big ice - less chance of hitting/being hit. More dump and chase = better workout overall and less scoring (tighter game).
5/23/2009 9:22:29 AM
less chance of hitting = tighter gameDOES NOT COMPUTEmore space to operate = more open gamei fucking hate that place in every way, though, and it's only partly big-ice biassome of it is tiny locker room biasruss biasboards are too tall biasetc.
5/23/2009 9:52:47 AM
I guess you'll never make the olympic team then I think I might be able to do Sunday night. I don't get in until late, but might be able to pull it off. Details?Oh shit. That place is all the way up in Wake Forest.I'll try to make it, might be impossible. Keep me updated.[Edited on May 23, 2009 at 5:41 PM. Reason : ,]
5/23/2009 5:37:55 PM
I guess I'll just have to make the 2010 Olympic team and forget about 2014 and 2018.
5/23/2009 5:41:27 PM
I didn't even realize they were playing on an NHL sized rink next year. Maybe you still have a chance.[Edited on May 23, 2009 at 5:44 PM. Reason : next]
5/23/2009 5:44:42 PM
To be fair, I just noticed that gosabres plays C, so the game may indeed be tighter if you're not dealing with guys zipping in and out of open, undefended space.
5/23/2009 5:56:37 PM
ok i'm definitely up for stick time tomorrow. i just picked up a used easton synergy ST grip from play it again for $25
5/23/2009 8:11:45 PM
Yeah, I got a pair of Bauer 8090's there the other day for 75 bucks.Size 12EE. Such a lucky find.
5/23/2009 9:33:39 PM
^thats awesome. so who is going tomorrow?quick question do you need a mouthguard for stick time?
5/23/2009 10:10:56 PM
No can do tomorrow. Won't be in Raleigh until 9. If anyone's up for Mon/Tue anytime, I'm down.
5/23/2009 10:47:14 PM

^ Thanks man...that's a better time for me anyway...
5/24/2009 4:18:36 PM

5/24/2009 4:24:41 PM
yes
5/24/2009 4:39:59 PM
See you guys there...I'll be wearing a blue jersey with a minor league Whalers logo and "Hodges" on the back so if anyone sees me feel free to come up and introduce yourself.
5/24/2009 7:01:22 PM
I was there...its quite a bit faster than pickup at the iceplex but fun...
5/25/2009 12:46:38 AM
I didn't go because of the time change. I figured not as many people would have showed up.
5/25/2009 9:51:10 AM
anyone up for stick time at reczone at 5:30?
5/25/2009 3:46:35 PM
I'll definitely be at RecZone on Friday for their 12:15-1:45 pickup
5/25/2009 5:48:48 PM
I'm gonna try to make that one too.

5/29/2009 9:01:36 AM
I'll be there
5/29/2009 9:02:49 AM
Ok I'm easing into thisDecided to just do stick and pucks this summer and maybe a league in the fall if I get into itSo I'd like some advice on skates and sticksI'm not looking for the most cutting edge stuff out there, but I don't mind paying for quality, within reasonThanks in advance
5/29/2009 9:30:58 AM
in pennsylvania and all my hockey gear is in tact, even if it is yellow and full of spiders.i doubt i'll be able to make anything on sunday, but definitely this week. although i refuse to skate before having my skates sharpened, which brings up the question: is there any place that is particularly good or bad at sharpening skates?
5/29/2009 10:15:32 AM
It all depends on the individual sharpening them. I get mine sharpened at 5 hole sports in Cary.
5/29/2009 11:17:25 AM
does anywhere around here make you wear a full cage?
5/31/2009 7:30:24 PM
As long as you're 18, you don't have to wear a cage.
5/31/2009 7:35:30 PM
I work at the iceplex. so if you all wanted a team there, Im down since it would be free for me any questions you have about the iceplex i can answer.and yea, russ can be kind of a dick at times, hes not that bad though. Def not as bad as the dude at the factory[Edited on June 1, 2009 at 3:34 AM. Reason : fac]
6/1/2009 3:32:32 AM
sorry for the double post:
6/1/2009 3:33:30 AM
i'm willing to put money on the fact that i am the best skate sharpener on twwbut i quit my sharpening job, so i have no way to prove it
6/1/2009 4:01:02 AM
Quite the claim Brian on best TWW skate sharpener evar...
6/1/2009 7:37:15 AM
6/1/2009 7:41:43 AM
then sharpen my fucking skates.
6/1/2009 8:02:15 AM
I need some advice on skates. Its been a long time since i've owned a pair, last ones i had were some original Reebok pumps when they first entered the hockey world in the mid 90's. They were nice, and i also had older Bauers, but i know they were bought out by Nike so i'm unsure of them.who's on top these days?
6/1/2009 11:56:56 AM
Bauer
6/1/2009 12:00:53 PM
d'oh, forgot about gregorstill, i've gotten pretty damn good^ graf > bauer > rbk ]
6/1/2009 12:21:02 PM
i've been thinking about taking a learn-to-play class. don't know if i'd go to far after that though - while i'm a decent athlete, i'm not big, like 5'6 120.i'd probably get my ass ROCKED, hahaha
6/1/2009 12:57:55 PM
puck_it is tiny, and he doesn't have any problems. The funny thing is that LTP and lower C league actually has more contact than upper levels of adult league because no one out there is very mobile/agile on their skates and there are more collisions, etc.
6/1/2009 1:35:32 PM
so where's the pickup this week?going to drop my skates off to be sharpened and pick up a couple of sticks after work.
