i checked it out and it turns out you still have to use the sony launcher to even access the emulated servers which means you have to buy a copy, but sony has no problem with you playing older (emulated) versions of the game. The website is swgemu.com i guess... i mean this is coming from someone who did about 3 minutes of research. Those could all be shitty underpopulated servers for all i know.

I have a copy collecting dust. If there's a private serv somewhere that I can goof around on I'd be interested in wasting a dew days playing with it.

word if anyone has a copy collecting dust i'll gladly take it off their hands.

I'm almost 90% sure i played this game before on a non trial server back in the day but a bunch of my friends ran servers for games so i might not have... Eitherway no idea where my copy or cd key would be if it exists

you can find a torrent of the cds that will work as well, since you dont need to set up a sony account youll never need a key just the actual cd files

i remember 4 years ago when i played the install seemed to take forever, took less than 3 min mounted in poweriso though

^ A comment on that video:

Quote :
"Bullshit!!!! This was supposed to happen after knights of the old republic 2?? There were no other mandalores between the mandalores, Indomitable and Ultimate. And Ultimate was seen as the userper of the Mandalore Gladiator at the end of this clip?? Ultimate took the Mandalore helmet from his then-mandalore, Indomitable. Taking the title unto himself. This Game makes no sense at all!!!?"

Save your game A LOT. I've had characters get bugged in the middle of the game and become completely stuck because I didn't have an earlier save. Great game besides that.

"In what is always a good news, bad news situation, BioWare today opened registration for the Star Wars: The Old Republic beta, and received overwhelming response from fans... which eventually crashed their website.

Once normal operations resume, you will eventually be able to head to this website to sign up. But as you can see now, there's only a maintenance message from BioWare saying they estimate "the site will be back up in the next few hours."

Signing up will involve registering on their website, filling out some basic information, and submitting to a system scan. Beta spots are limited, so if you really, really want to have a chance to try The Old Republic before it's (still unannounced) official release, it looks like you may want to get that refresh button warmed up. so when they say "play from level 1 all the way through"...is there an ending to each class? Did I miss that along the line? If so, how is this an MMO? Why would one class never interact with content from another class? I don't mean quests necessarily, but shouldn't you at least be able to see the same areas that different classes are a part of?

I think its from the Youtube video. The writer says that if you play a sith all the way through (dunno what the end is) and then play a jedi knight, you will have a completely different story line.

Also, I just signed up for the beta

That would be why, i watched the youtube video without audio but i did watch the GT one with audio.

That makes sense though, you would have a different story if you play sith vs. jedi. Doesn't necessarily mean you won't see similar stuff. Its kind of like WoW. You have different stories and different starter areas but you can still go any where and everywhere.

yeah, I think what they were saying is everyone will have unique quest lines, not necessarily that there will be no interaction. For better or worse, I'm expecting this game to mostly be star wars skinned wow... with some more in-depth storylines/quests, and maybe some new smaller features.

Although SWG was by far my favorite MMO until they unlocked Jedi's for everyone.

More and more this just seems like a single player KOTOR like game that has a chat lobby or something....not a MMO.

I mean, if I'm a sith and you're a soldier....we can't group up and go on missions?

If so, how is that "entirely different quests, etc. if you play sith vs. jedi"

This seems like more than just starter areas....he said the entire course of the game...

I played almost all of WoW without help on quests, outside of instances (or flashpoints...), and i made all the way through Black Temple and a bit of Sunwell before i quit. I'm pretty sure this game will be the same type thing, more maybe since it is Star Wars quests will be geared around doing things that conflict the opposing side's quests somehow.

^yeah, i'd be very careful to take what they say with a grain of salt. We don't really know what quests are, in previous bioware games quests are 100% of the game and here that is definitely not the case

^^^^I'm really waiting for beta to hit to find out what the deal really is, but from what I've heard it sounds like this is supposed to be a pretty standard mmo, just more story driven. I'm guessing that each class will have mostly their own quest chain, but there will be plenty of times when your shit runs alongside others. There's a some video of a low level instance where a BH and Sith work to take down a disloyal captain and some jedi, for example. They said a sith and jedi wouldn't have the same content but then, even in wow horde and alliance rarely have the same quests either.

^^^A couple of the planets have been called contested. That might mean there's some opposing quests and some optional pvp in these areas (maybe like STV in WoW).

There's really just not too many details about how the game will play right now, just tidbits of info. I'll be keeping an eye on it for sure though.

I'd like to see some quests based upon battleground-style PvP in this sort of area... though not as bland as honor token turn-ins or as un-used as world PvP objectives, more like "kill [some number] of sith in this contested zone, then get back to me" or "complete [some number] of [some minor battleground objective] against the enemy, then get back to me"... but these would really only work if the PvP area is basically an instanced battleground.

My favorite type of PvP battleground in MMOs is the sort with large player caps where people can just enter into it any time they want to fight freely... it continuously goes on, and if there is some overall goal or objective, it takes a backseat to the large-scale combat, and starts a new game fairly quickly if that objective gets met. In WoW terms: Basically old-school Alterac Valley (back when one single game could sometimes take 8-16 hours) crossed with a bit of Wintergrasp... though not as short as either.

^Yeah... based upon my own completely unfounded speculation, I expect that this is going to be:
-As an RPG, a solid game with a strong story, but with a bigger focus on level or money grinding than most every other Bioware RPG.
-As an MMO, a mediocre or average game (based upon the quality of the MMO elements... obviously a huge focus on story is hardly average), with a decent-sized niche following.
-Overall, worth getting as a Bioware RPG, but will likely get panned by some critics and WoW players as a run-of-the-mill or sub-standard MMO for various reasons.

It just seems so counterintuitive to me.

A good MMO, the kind that will be revolutionary, will have the bulk of the "story" between the players.

This seems so focused on "story"...where is the interaction between players going to be. It sounds so much like a co-op KOTOR.

I wouldn't be surprised it alot of the early content is geared more towards individual players and their sotries with the world opening up as they level up. You know, like finally traveling to other worlds, frontiers etc...that's my theory

I hope they don't even have crafting.

Crafting makes zero sense in Star Wars, unless you're making a lightsaber for yourself of course.

You have to do that with almost any Star Wars related war scene.

Regardless this is still high up on my radar...though I'm thinking I might have to get a new rig to be able to play this...

Interesting trailer that doesn't convince me of buying the game at all. Personally, I enjoyed regular RPGs, like "Knights of the Old Republic". Better graphics, better storyline, better game play, and less 10 year olds kicking my butt.

Also, I see they were very creative with naming this one.

^And you can tell that The Old Republic doesn't/won't have better graphics, storyline, and game play just from the cinematic? Brilliant!
