that is just bad luck for that dude

what is the probability that someone hits a parked car? combine that with the probability that someone is getting head in said parked car, and you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning.

Dang, joe#'s. I'm really sorry to hear about your break up. But you don't need someone who has that little respect for you as a person.

Her termination process was perfectly orchestrated.

Just before she gets ready to leave a little early to go to lunch with her girlfriends, I call her into one of the larger conference rooms near our offices.

I was sitting on one side of the big table, and she on the other. I opened my folder and told her that her performance has been less than satisfactory and that we have not seen any improvement over the past five months. I presented the partial record of when we caught her playing games. I also showed her the report I got from IT of her Internet history since January. Myspace, Facebook, etc were among the most visited.

I then informed her that she was losing her job. As I told her I slid a box of tissues from my side of the table to hers. She cried hysterically, of course.

While we were in the conference room, my boss called IT to change her passwords to keep her from getting on the computer and causing some shit.

When she got back to her desk, there was a box already there for her to put her things in. 10 minutes later a security guard showed up to escort her from the building. HR was at the front door of the building to take her ID badge.

I think her unsatisfactory performance review from January served as a significant warning that she needs to shape up.

well now that you are hiring someone new, it would be a good time to lay down the law so to speak.

let the secretary know what is and isnt expected of her as an employee, so you hopefully can avoid a similar situation in the future

playing solitaire is one thing during work, and i can see the justification of firing her for THAT ALONE, but, just browsing through your posting it seems that you have been surfing and posting during work hours as well.....

In this economy, a worker who does not work is just asking for it. Now's the time to find someone hot and competent at the same time, surely there's at least one out there.

So wait does her playing games put her behind in doing work or has she kept up with what has been asked of her? If she has time to play games then maybe she needs to be given additional work.

agreed.

she is was an hourly employee, getting paid to work from 8 to 5.

i am a salaried employee, getting paid for 40 hours when I really work 70-80 every week. My hours are very skewed, so if I post during the day I am usually working from home. I very rarely do any personal surfing from company-owned computers and networks.

that being said, her reviews sucked and she didn't get her work done. My reviews are always very positive and I work my ass off. there is a difference.

and this sucks, because even at 1130pm I'm in the process of writing a major report and I'm waiting for some simulations to finish so I can get the data

I have to hand it to you -- if you have to fire someone, that's the way to do it. I like how everything went off like clockwork.

Sucks for her but she shouldn't have been screwing off on company time. Perhaps this will serve as a good example that she isn't entitled to a job.

Hmmm it needs music to help put the firing over the top. Such as:

Classic sign of him checking you for balls. If your boss ever "leaves it up to you" that means "plz 2 fire k thx"

its kind of like when a girl says she does not want anything for her birthday, that means she is reminding you to get her something for her birthday.

I didn't want to infringe on Donald Trump's trademarked "You're Fired," but I tried to say something professional about how things weren't working out, and that we were letting her go.

I also forgot to mention that I had our legal team draw up a release of liability form that if she signed I would give her 2 weeks severance. I told her to take it with her and talk to her attorney if she wanted to. She'll probably sign it. Money is money.

We are going to have to change Joe#'s name to "the Bobs". lol

Very well played. I will go on internet record to support your decision of this firing and the act of firing. But I do have to say that even with playing games or surfing the web at work, it shouldn't be the thing that gets you fired, its the unsatisfactory results of not getting your actual work done.

When I had my corporate job, I would routinely get stuff done either early or on time meeting expectations or past it, constantly. I routinely played COD4, blogged, check news sites, and read the 20 million emails from coworkers about jokes and stupid videos while at work, but never affected my performance. I also took initiative to get things done when others were either overwhelmed or behind.
