I watched that movie The King of Kong this past weekend. That Billy Mitchell dude is a huge douche and it looks like everyone who was in the group that records video game world records would do everything they could to prevent him from losing the title of Donkey Kong champion.

I wonder if that's an omen that I need to get my hands on a couple of them

picked up one of these at the Winston auction a couple months ago:

I went there to get a Galaga game but they were going for $800+ so i got this monstrosity instead.

Here's a few of the results from the one I went to: http://www.davesclassicarcade.com/auction.html

it says that Galaga was going for 200.. maybe I'm misreading something - was that the starting bid?

^ DO WANT!

Except I would get bored with it once I knew the pattern. I doubt it was nearly as in depth as Dragons Lair.

OMFG DO WANT TOO!

That came out when I was managing the Putt-Putt in Winston and we would spend hours after close playing the shit out of that game. I remember when we found the hidden course we kicked over like four drinks.

I'd bet if you found one now it'd be so worn out that it couldn't even be calibrated.

^^ That one was a dud to me, but I came up on similar games that were sidescrollers instead of attempting 3-D. Dungeons & Dragons Shadow Over Mystara was the best of the walk around and beat-em up genre. PM me for info on Mame & Arcade ROMs if you're interested.

I give honorable mention to Spider-Man The Video Game just because of it's two different modes of game play.

Ah yes, Ironman Ivan Stewart's Off-Road.

It's basically a game I played at the skate rink when I was in elementary school plus a turbo button.

The Simpsons is cute, but relatively basic. It's Double Dragon in Springfield.

The D&D arcade game I mentioned earlier or it's predecessor D&D Tower of Doom are the pinnacle of that genre of game. If you haven't ever tried them and have access to an emulator or the know how to find one would be doing yourselves a favor to check it out.

Huh. Never saw the Spider Man game above, but I used to play the Punisher game ALL the time (and still do on MAME every once in a while). Loved how Nick Fury was P2.

One of the best parts of Penny Arcade Expo is the arcade free play that they do every year. King's Quest! I always wanted to play it, but I never could reason spending that many quarters/tokens on it.

They have auctions every 3-4 months in Winston. At the one I went to decent Golden Tee games were selling for $300+, up to 2k for the new ones. While I was initially interested in Galaga, then Golden Tee, I eventually got a PGA Tour Championship game because the graphics were better and I could get more machine for less money compared to the Golden Tee. I think the Silverstrike games were a touch more expensive.

I actually might sell mine soon if anyone is interested...
