theres no way that v-6 accord will get over 21 around town and 25 on the highway unless you drive it like a 80 year old woman
4/17/2009 4:51:41 AM
fwiw... my wife's 07' v6 accord (only 3.0L) is rated at 20/29 and she averages close to 24 mpg with about 95% city driving...she's not aggressive, but also not a grandma driver
4/17/2009 8:42:13 AM
In 07 the weren't the V6 Accords also 3.5 litres?
4/17/2009 8:51:51 AM
nope, i've got a 2007 Accord SE V6 right now (it's a lease that is getting turned in today) and it's 244hp 3.0L.[Edited on April 17, 2009 at 9:21 AM. Reason : .]

oici thought yours was an 06so do you have the car now or what?
4/17/2009 9:28:02 AM
nope, i leased it brand new in april 2007 - 2yr lease, 24k miles. i have 19,200 miles on it presently. i pick up the car at 5pm
4/17/2009 9:28:52 AM
so you can put on another 4,800 miles?why don't you like drive to chicago and back by 5 pm?
4/17/2009 9:30:40 AM
hahah yeah, i really should actually. yesterday i filled my gas tank like a complete idiot. $27 buckaroos down the drain, thank you very much!
4/17/2009 9:31:36 AM
don't you have one of those manual pumps you can use to take it out? go to any outdoor/camping shop and get one. store in a bucket, and then transfer to new car
4/17/2009 9:33:25 AM
i'm guessing one of those pumps would cost me more than $27 the thought did cross my mind to syphon the gas out rogue-style with a hose and a little suction LOL
4/17/2009 9:38:53 AM
and if you swallow it by mistake, even better!!! petrol makes you strong and muscular!!!

^ Yeah G8 is a great option. What about the Charger? Or the 300C? Or perhaps the G37, IS350, and the TL, if they are within your budget. Or better yet the TSX with the 280 hp V6 engine (yeah I know it is FWD).
4/17/2009 1:08:09 PM
I was guessing he was talking about the 25,000-30,000 range at most. Almost all the cars you mentioned are too expensive, especially the performance models.
4/17/2009 1:42:25 PM
I don't know exact prices, but I thought the 340 hp versions (R/T?) of the Charger and 300C were right around $30k.And anyway, if he goes used, he can pick up any of those cars (incl. the Lexus/Acura/Infiniti, and SRT8s, which are monsters) in very good condition (05, 06 models?) for around that range.
4/17/2009 1:46:51 PM
I've seen SRT8 Chargers in the low $30k range, but they are thristy cars...I personally don't mind the new TSX (although it is FWD), but those TL's are fugly. [Edited on April 17, 2009 at 2:02 PM. Reason : .]
4/17/2009 2:00:44 PM
It is the new Acura family grille, which is very fugly. Even if the car itself looks good, it fuglifies the front end.But I agree even if you discount the grille, the TSX has a much nicer shape than the TL. The new TL has a very polarizing shape.
4/17/2009 2:11:07 PM
hey i thought we were talking about my car????
4/17/2009 2:14:06 PM
Aww... We'll get back to you once you post pics of your car again
4/17/2009 2:15:30 PM
i have yet to receive an offer to take pics of my car on an empty parking deck in the glowing light of downtown raleigh at night
4/17/2009 2:17:00 PM
The inspiration for the new Acura grille design had to be a bottle opener. As to the Accord, it's a great car, no question. How heavy is it that it felt weak with almost 200 HP from the four though? (and for that matter how much torque--that's much more important than HP in around-town and on-ramp situations)
4/17/2009 2:30:33 PM
i don't know how heavy the car is. i just know that i punched it in the 271hp V6 as well as the 190hp I4, and the difference was huge. of course, that's to be expected. i don't punch it when i turn out of every parking lot and driveway, so honestly it shouldn't matter. but having had a V6 for the last 2 years, i thought it was best to go with what i'm used to. like the agent said, "once you go V6 you can't really ever go back."
4/17/2009 2:33:56 PM
hmmph. You can go back. I'd take a turbo 4 any day over an NA V6.You can also go back if you're financially in the shitter and that's just what happens to come your way for damn cheap. LOL.
4/17/2009 2:44:36 PM
ok...maybe i should rephrase what she said. "you can't ever go back...unless you have to." and in this case, i don't have to. $50/mo now isn't that bad when you consider how long i'll have this car. might as well get what i want right now since i'm buying a car ya know? i can't wait to pick this baby up!
4/17/2009 2:53:01 PM
more like
4/17/2009 2:57:19 PM
that sounds like it belongs on a really big honkin' truck, and i can't drive those boats you should see me trying to park my husband's 4dr short bed GMC Sierra!
4/17/2009 2:59:23 PM
The accord is ~3300lb and the I4 has 160ft-lb of torque at 4,300 rpm. It's okay.
4/17/2009 3:01:49 PM
^^actually no, thats what i have in my sierra, thats what real men have in their trucks where is that quote when i need it? something like: my truck truck get 12 gallons per mile, you know what else gets that mileage? a fuckin tank, thats how i know my truck is badass, oh whats that? seatbelts? those are cute
4/17/2009 3:12:03 PM
So thumper, did you end up getting Royal Pearl Blue? If so, our cars are twins! I am actually getting the deck lid spoiler online for ~$250 and am installing it myself. I think it will look good. Also getting the windows tinted 35% this week.pic of spoiler:
4/17/2009 7:18:36 PM
nope i ended up with the Polished Metal Metallic, which was actually my first choice. it's got black leather interior. i ordered the same spoiler as you, the one pictured - it'll be in next week and then i'll go back and have them install it. i guess i should have done it your way - it was $429 for the spoiler plus labor.that car is fucking sweet. i mean, seriously fucking sweet. i spent a shit ton of money, but damnit, that car is worth it. so tell me about the tinting - where you're getting it done and how much. that might interest me as well. [Edited on April 17, 2009 at 9:52 PM. Reason : .]
4/17/2009 9:51:08 PM
I can't believe you're paying for a spoiler in this economy.
4/17/2009 11:16:42 PM
^lol.
4/17/2009 11:54:21 PM
i can't help it i like big............engines yes, i'm spending $400 on a silly spoiler. and i'll likely spend $200 on some tinting like that other guy.i'm sorry if you're jealous that my husband and i make pretty decent money and aren't hurting in this economy.
4/18/2009 8:42:47 AM
FWIW I wouldn't buy a full size sedan with an I-4. I-4+Turbo maybe.
4/18/2009 9:04:50 AM
4/18/2009 9:41:14 AM
^^yeah, if i was getting a 2dr it'd be a different story. the 4dr sedan is too big for an I4. that and i like to go fast and hear the engine rumble if i wanna. ^
4/18/2009 10:26:44 AM
Personally, I wouldn't want a V6 Accord. An Accord is an awesome all-around daily-driver "appliance car." If performance was a factor in the decision, I'd get something else (330i). The I4 will be more than adequate with 190 hp, so I'd never pay more (in terms of purchase price, insurance, fuel, and maintenance/repair) to have the V6.However, you are crazy if you think that 271 hp vs 190 isn't a huge difference. It's just that 190 is already more than enough for that car and what it's meant to do.[Edited on April 18, 2009 at 11:05 AM. Reason : ^ i bet the weight difference between the coupe and sedan is very minimal]

actually a fifth wheel pulls horrible on secondary roads, a gooseneck has a lot better articulationand are you saying that BigBlueRam's 32 ft trailer is shit because its a bumper pull?thanks for trying though, stick to talking shit about something you know, like prada purses or tampons
4/18/2009 10:17:00 PM
4/18/2009 10:37:38 PM
so what you're admitting to is that you bought a truck to make you feel like more of a man, but you don't haul anything to justify why you bought a diesel. We've never used anything but SBC Chevy engines to pull our farm gooseneck and rear hitch trailers, and I know we've had around 20,000 pounds of hay on the gooseneck several times a year and had no problem pulling it out of pastures, along secondary roads and through hilly terrain. The old TH-400 transmissions wouldn't hold up much past 100,000 miles, but we've managed to put 200,000 miles on those engines with no problem. We also know a prominent auctioneer and cattlemen in this state who's gotten excellent service out of the GM SBC and NV4500 / NV5600 transmission while pulling gooseneck trailers for probably more than 50% of the miles he puts on the vehicles. He started having problems when he switched to ford powerstrokes, but I'll leave Ford out of this for now.So like I stated previously, unless you have a fucking fifth wheel and a trailer that you're hooking up to so that you can be hauling loads requiring a CDL on a consistent basis, then you just bought a lot of engine that you have no real use for. But please, continue to act like you think you know what the fuck you're talking about. It's entertaining.

i just saw this thread60 month financing... ouch
4/19/2009 11:04:59 AM
4/19/2009 2:23:00 PM
That's not the issue. The Cobalt will easily last 5+ years without much trouble. The issue is how much interest you're going to pay over 60 months of financing a car. Of course, once you start using credit to live beyond your means, you've made a deal with the devil, and you're pretty much stuck doing it to maintain the same lifestyle. The only "out" is to live below your means for a while to pay everything off and put some cash in the bank. Either that, or come into a significant lump sum of money and use it to break the debt cycle rather than temporarily increase your standard of living.I'm not some Dave Ramsey-type cash-only crusader. I think that's an unnecessary extreme, unless you just can't handle credit, in the same way that a chronic alcoholic knows that he can never, ever again take even that first social drink. However, what you're doing is not smart. It's not as dumb as leasing, but it's still a pretty poor move.I know you're going to do it anyway, so I don't know why I'm trying to help you again.
4/19/2009 2:39:39 PM
I don't need your lectures. In fact, I'm pretty sure most people in the Gayrage (and TWW in general) don't need your condescending, holier-than-thou comments about money and credit and "How To Live Your Life" posts. It's all rather comical to hear from a guy who knocked up some random girl and ended up on the hook with a kid at like 25 years old, paying child support for the next 18 years of his life. So seriously, lay off.Read the thread though, it's already done. I signed the papers on Friday. I know I spent too much money, but it's the kind of car I wanted and we can afford it. After 60 months (if I don't pay the car off early) I'll have spent about $3k in interest. Yeah, that's a lot of money. Yeah, I got an overpriced car. Yeah, I financed the entire amount for 60 months (and kept my $4k in cash to pay off my 10% interest credit card). But so what? This thread was not a quest for advice on how to buy a car. It was a thread to ask about which engine was the better choice, given the difference in price. And I got my answer way back on Page 1. So as far as I'm concerned, this thread is over.I don't need someone like you telling me I made a bad move. Buying was a better option than leasing for my husband and I, and we got a great deal on financing and an awesome deal on a new Accord, paying nearly $1k below invoice. Ultimately, a good move for you and a good move for us (finance-wise) isn't going to be the same thing. We're married, we own a house, we make really good money - and as a result, it probably goes without saying that we can afford more than you can - being single and paying child support and having just become a home owner.

^^ You stupid hooker, I have seventy fucking thousand dollars in the bank in cash. I can afford whatever I damn well please, and pay for it with a stack of hundred-dollar bills instead of going grovelling to some lender to borrow money on his terms and be a slave to the grind.Furthermore, I'm a Captain in the USMC, fly a $60 million dollar attack jet, have a TOP SECRET/Secure Compartmentalized Information security clearance. I have a degree in mechanical engineering. Take your dick-wagging back to the bush league.I have offered you good, solid, although unsolicited advice, and tried to do it in a polite though direct manner. If you are determined to do dumb things, have at it--it makes no difference to me. Maybe someone else will learn something from the things I've said. and to everyone else, I apologize--there isn't anyway to make this point without coming across as a cocky asshole.[Edited on April 19, 2009 at 3:01 PM.
